Chapter 40: The Misunderstanding Between Mother and Son is Resolved
Feng Ran composed herself, realizing her reaction had been a bit excessive, and coughed lightly twice:
"That's not what I meant, but I think it would be better for Miss Nan to leave for a while."
The steward's surprised voice rang out: "Princess, after all..." Considering Feng Ran's status, he still did not utter the disobedient words.
Feng Ran said, "You know how resistant he is to you, right? We all know he fainted because he was frightened. What if he sees this and gets frightened again? The cub is very fragile. I have taken care of Yan Yan for so many years, and no one is more suitable to stay here with him than me."
Carefully observing Nan Jiao's expression, he said, "Of course, you don't have to believe me, but if Yan Yan is really frightened as I said..."
Sure enough, Nan Jiao stood up; after all, no mother would risk her child's life.
"I'll wait outside."
Feng Ran paused slightly. She hoped that Nan Jiao would leave and go home directly, so as to completely avoid the risk.
Just as Nan Jiao took a step, Yan Yan's faint voice suddenly came from behind her:
"Mom, don't leave me..."
Nan Jiao stopped in her tracks, tears welling up in her eyes. This was the second time Yan Yan had called her "Mom."
Just as she was about to respond, she saw Feng Ran walk over first and gently comfort her, "Yan Yan, be good, Mommy is here. Mommy won't leave. Mommy will always be with you, Yan Yan."
Nan Jiao sensed a kind of "sympathy" in the housekeeper's eyes, and the next second a soft little hand grabbed the hem of her dress.
"Mother……"
Feng Ran's alarm bells rang loudly. She tried to pull Yan Yan's hand away, but Yan Yan held on tightly and wouldn't let go no matter what she did.
"Yanyan, you've grabbed the wrong person! Mommy's here, let her go..."
Nan Jiao couldn't help but turn around and saw that Yan Yan had opened her eyes at some point, but her eyes looked confused and full of longing for her.
He saw Nan Jiao stop, jumped off the bed, and hugged her leg: "Mommy, don't leave Yan Yan, okay? Yan Yan will be very good and won't cause you any trouble..."
Nan Jiao picked up Yan Yan and felt him soft and squishy in her arms, with the unique milky scent of a baby.
She patted his shoulder and gently comforted him, "Mommy won't leave..."
"You're lying!" Yan Yan cried, "You're just trying to brush me off! You already have a new home and a new child! You'll never be with me, you'll abandon me..."
Feng Ran's heart stopped. Looking at Yan Yan's dazed and still unconscious eyes, she realized that after being injected with anesthesia, Yan Yan had revealed her truest thoughts and forgotten their agreement.
Nan Jiao froze, looking at Yan Yan in disbelief.
Why can't she understand a single word Yan Yan says?
"Yan Yan, what are you talking about? When did I have a new family and children? I would never abandon you."
Yan Yan blinked a few times, his consciousness gradually clearing as he was overjoyed by these words. He looked up in disbelief:
"What...what did you say?" He puffed out his cheeks and said, "Don't try to fool me. I'm very smart. No, why would you lie to me? I've already seen the picture of you and a little sheep-man. His father is also an antelope. Isn't that your new family?"
antelope……
Nan Jiao immediately thought of Qi Han and Kang Kang.
"The one you're talking about is my landlord's cub, his name is Kang Kang, that's not my child."
"What?!" A strange light flashed in Yan Yan's eyes: "So... you didn't abandon me, did you?"
"Of course, how could I bear to abandon you? You're one of my few remaining family members..."
The viewers in the live chat were equally moved and confused.
[If you ask me, the child should be raised by the biological mother. The author deliberately made the ex-wife die young just so the female lead could legitimately have the child; that's quite cruel.]
[Lu Yanyan, you little ingrate! You've forgotten who took care of you all these years. It's uncertain whether you'd even survive without our heroine. Now that you're grown up, you want to find your biological mother. What a pure ingrate! You can't be tamed no matter what. I even left a comment suggesting the heroine should raise Feng Yu's daughter; daughters are much warmer than sons.]
[This isn't about the children; the main problem is that Feng Yu is too protective and won't let her raise them. Otherwise, the female lead wouldn't have raised them together.]
[Stop going crazy upstairs! Where's the ingrate? Put yourself in Yan Yan's shoes; you bunch of people yelling like that are just insane.]
[Ber, isn't everyone's focus a bit off? I don't remember the author writing this part. How come the female supporting character was reuniting with her child and crying her eyes out? Where in the book is this scene? I'm starting to doubt my memory...]
As Nan Jiao watched the scrolling comments, a bold idea arose in her mind.
What if the plot could be changed?
At present, Yan Yan has no intention of hurting herself for the sake of the female lead. If she can control herself, the outcome might be different?
My fingers gently stroked Yan Yan's little face.
She was determined to try, no matter what.
"Yanyan, Mommy promises you, Mommy will never abandon you again, please forgive me?"
Yan Yan nodded with tears in her eyes: "Mom, why are you so good to me? Shouldn't you hate me? Because of me, you almost didn't survive your difficult childbirth. I'm the murderer who almost killed you."
"Don't say that." Nan Jiao remembered that there was such a thing. She said softly, "How could I possibly hate you? When I decided to give birth to you, I had already made my choice. I want to take good care of you and give you the best life."
"There are always many hardships on the way to obtaining treasures, but I'm still alive, aren't I? I'm so grateful to God for sending Yan Yan to my mother's side..."
Yan Yan's eyes instantly reddened, and the butler, with tears streaming down his face, pulled out a handkerchief.
Apart from Feng Ran, she seemed completely disconnected from the heartwarming scene before her, only roaring in her heart, asking the system what to do.
The system did not respond. Their progress had remained largely unchanged for three consecutive years, and they were about to be worn down by this world.
But if the mission is not completed, there will be no way to explain it back to headquarters.
Nan Jiao reached out to wipe away Lu Yanyan's tears, saying with heartache, "Don't cry, Yanyan. The misunderstanding has been cleared up, we should be smiling."
Upon hearing Nan Jiao's words, Yan Yan finally stopped crying and started smiling.
Nan Jiao lovingly pulled him into her arms, but suddenly realized something was wrong.
Where did Yan Yan get these misunderstandings from?
She had never mentioned the difficult childbirth to him.
How did a child like him find out about the photos of himself and Kang Kang?
Thinking of this, Nan Jiao asked:
"Yanyan, Mom has a question for you."
