Chapter Seven: Jiaojiao, what makes him better than me?

“The group of people outside are all fierce and have bad intentions. They just tried to surround and beat me up, but luckily I dodged quickly.”

The "fierce" customers shrank back upon hearing this and shook their heads in unison.

Nan Jiao naturally didn't believe Lu Xiao's explanation: "Do you think I'd believe that? What exactly happened?"

Lu Xiao smirked, looking at the restless crowd outside, and said unhappily, "These people have no good intentions. They're just using your pretty face as an excuse to surround the store. I only gave them a slight warning."

The males who were swept by his fierce gaze all felt their legs go weak.

Nan Jiao was both amused and exasperated, and also had a headache: "How am I supposed to do business like this? These beastmen are just here for a normal meal, please stop messing around."

Lu Xiao remained silent for a moment, trusting his male intuition. However, seeing that Nan Jiao seemed somewhat angry, he subconsciously softened his stance, saying, "Alright, but you stay in the back and handle things in the front, leave the rest to me, lest they try anything funny."

Nan Jiao nodded, she didn't care where she was busy.

Lu Xiao then moved away.

As evening approached, a deep, male laugh suddenly came from outside. A gentle-looking male was seen leading a cub by the hand as they entered.

Upon hearing the voice, Nan Jiao immediately went over with a warm smile on her face: "Brother Qi Han, what brings you here?"

Qi Han smiled, his gaze lingering on her cheek, as he let his son snuggle into Nan Jiao's arms: "I just picked Kang Kang up from school. I heard you've been quite busy lately, so I thought I'd come and see if there's anything I can help with."

Nan Jiao was about to say something when suddenly a hot, hard body pressed against her from behind. Lu Xiao had appeared behind her without her noticing. He slightly raised his chin, looking at Qi Han with unfriendly eyes: "Isn't this inappropriate? Why aren't you helping your own wife instead of harassing someone else's?"

"Lu Xiao!"

Lu Xiao still glared fiercely at Qi Han, as if facing this male always gave him a very uncomfortable feeling, and a strong sense of crisis lingered in his heart.

Especially just now, the three of them stood together so warmly, looking like a family of three...

A family of three...

Lu Xiao clenched his fists, his knuckles cracking, but a barely perceptible pain flickered deep in his eyes.

Qi Han gently shook his head at Nan Jiao, then looked at Lu Xiao with a slightly appraising look in his eyes: "Well... to be honest, my wife passed away in an accident three years ago, leaving behind only me and my four-year-old son, Kang Kang."

Lu Xiao nodded without surprise: "A widower? Then you should keep your distance from her even more. She's very picky; she definitely wouldn't be interested in a divorced man like you. I advise you..."

"Stop fooling around, Lu Xiao." Nan Jiao quickly interrupted and introduced, "This is Qi Han. He is the landlord who rented the shop to me. He helped me a lot when I first came here, and I am very grateful to him. The baby in my arms is Brother Qi's son, Kang Kang."

"Brother Qi, this is Lu Xiao, he is... the shop's bodyguard."

Lu Xiao opened his mouth slightly in dissatisfaction, but still didn't say anything.

Qi Han was a smart man. His gaze swept over the two people in the tense and strange atmosphere, and he slowly revealed a smile: "Mr. Lu, hello."

Nan Jiao was worried that Lu Xiao might say something outrageous again, so she quickly instructed him to go to the kitchen to grind coffee.

Nan Jiao sat down at the dining table with Qi Han and his son.

Qi Han waved to Kang Kang: "Kang Kang, come to Daddy. You've grown quite a bit taller now. It'll tire Auntie out if she keeps carrying you."

Kang Kang obediently left Nan Jiao's embrace and sat down in a chair.

A thumping sound came from the kitchen, as if someone was violently pounding lemon slices.

After a while, Lu Xiao came out carrying a tray. The scene of the three of them enjoying themselves was extremely jarring. He put the tray on the table and said irritably, "Drink up."

Qi Han was speaking eloquently when he picked up his cup, took a sip, and the next second his brow furrowed. He pulled out a handkerchief and coughed, "Why is it salty..."

"Salty?" Nan Jiao tasted the coffee in her cup. "It's not salty."

Kang Kang curiously picked up his father's cup and licked a little, then wrinkled his little face: "Auntie, it really is salty..."

Nan Jiao understood something and looked at Lu Xiao.

Lu Xiao apologized slowly: "Oh, sorry, I probably mistook salt for sugar."

He said sorry, but there was not a trace of remorse in his tone. He even raised his eyebrows and stared at Qi Han defiantly.

Qi Han wasn't stupid; he naturally sensed that he wasn't welcome. However, he didn't choose to leave. Instead, he gently pushed the coffee away and continued his conversation, showing no intention of leaving.

Lu Xiao chuckled softly, staring intently at Qi Han as if he wished he could throw him out to feed the wolves.

Finally, Kang Kang couldn't take it anymore and kept pestering Qi Han to let them go home. Lu Xiao was already tall, and his fierce, man-eating blue eyes were truly terrifying, comparable to the legendary marshal of the capital star who ate little beastmen.

Although reluctant, Qi Han could only hold Kang Kang's hand and say goodbye to Nan Jiao.

Nan Jiao got up and saw Qi Han and his son to the door. When she returned, she found Lu Xiao sitting in the spot where she had just been sitting, his well-defined knuckles holding the manuscript that Qi Han had just used for his explanation.

He looked up when he heard the voice, his deep blue eyes unfathomable: "A bunch of pretentious words, so this is what you like?"

Nan Jiao didn't know what was wrong with him, and replied perfunctorily, "I would like anyone but you."

Lu Xiao's fingers paused, something flashing through his mind, and his fierce expression instantly turned pale. He gripped the paper in his hand, unable to resist pulling her into his arms, almost greedily inhaling the fragrance of her hair, his dry lips pressing against her fair neck:

"Jiaojiao, what's so good about him? Do you like this kind of good-looking but useless guy? Look at his skinny body, any random hyena on the street could eat him to pieces. He looks like a spineless bastard who will die young, and he's also a jinx to his wives. You really dare to take in such a jinx?"
