"You dare!" Wu Feng gasped for breath.

Gu Nan deliberately rubbed her toes hard, only stopping when she heard the other person gasp in pain: "See if I dare."

She was always smiling, and her tone wasn't harsh, but her eyes held a deadly gloom.

She had been sheltering from the rain with Lu Yushi, arguing with her aunt, being kidnapped by Master Wan, and had a tangled mess of emotions in her heart. She had long wanted to go to the boxing ring to vent her frustrations.

She never gets a chance to speak, and some people even deliberately try to cause trouble for her.

He threw Wu Feng hard to the ground.

The cries of pain stopped for a moment.

Sudi was startled and quickly got up from her office chair. Seeing Wu Feng still struggling on the ground, she breathed a sigh of relief and whispered to Gu Nan, "I'm fine. It would be hard to handle if this got out of hand."

She dared not speak directly; the ruthlessness in Gu Nan's eyes was too terrifying, and she was afraid that Gu Nan might accidentally kill someone.

Gu Nan stared intently at Wu Feng, who couldn't get up, without saying a word.

Sudi bit her lip and mustered her courage to pull Gu Nan, only to find that she seemed really angry, so angry that both of her hands were trembling slightly.

"You'd better not mess with me, or you won't be so lucky next time. Get lost." Gu Nan closed her eyes to control her irritation. The sound of fabric rubbing against her ear never stopped. She opened her eyes, and Wu Feng subconsciously shrank under the table.

"What...what are you doing!"

"Thank you, Sudi, for pleading for you," Gu Nan commanded.

Wu Feng grunted.

"What, didn't you bring your vocal cords with you?" Gu Nan rubbed her wrist and walked to the table. "Let me help you look for it?"

Wu Feng quickly called out again.

"Speak louder."

"Louder."

Wu Feng's voice was hoarse from shouting, but Gu Nan was still not satisfied. Su Di tugged at Gu Nan's sleeve and said, "That's enough, everyone outside can hear us."

Gu Nan slowly exhaled smoke, as if deliberately trying to disgust Wu Feng, and said slowly and deliberately, "Manager Wu, do you know who you can't mess with in the future? If you don't know, you can ask those people outside. They should know very well."

Sudi paused, and when she looked at Gu Nan again, her gaze was more complicated. It felt as if a furnace had been moved into her heart, and a little steam rose from her eyes.

Wu Feng's eyes were filled with genuine hatred, but he dared not reveal a trace of it: "I know, I know."

"roll."

Wu Feng hurriedly crawled out from under the table, tripped over the scattered books on the ground, and didn't dare to say anything. He scrambled away, trying to leave, but Gu Nan closed her eyes, got up, and kicked him out the door.

He leaned against the doorway, a cigarette dangling from his lips, and looked down at him disdainfully: "It's like I'm the one who escorted Manager Wu in. I'll see you out as well, won't I? Aren't you going to thank me?"

Wu Feng, being the head of the advertising department, found it hard to accept such humiliation in public. He glared at her, endured the pain, got up, and turned to leave.

Gu Nan said calmly, "Since you're so rude, it seems I won't give you a chance to speak next time."

Wu Feng stopped in his tracks, turned around with a stiff face, and saw that the office door was already closed.

Sudi gripped the doorknob and whispered, "You're back."

Gu Nan took a drag of her cigarette and said irritably, "He bullied you, and you couldn't tell me? Even if Ji Yuanyu didn't care, what? Don't those people outside listen to you? Are you trying to play the victim with me?"

Sudi opened his mouth but couldn't say anything, silently lowering his head to accept the scolding.

Gu Nan banged and cursed for a while, and his cigarette was almost burned to the bottom. Unable to find an ashtray, he casually took out a disposable paper cup and threw it in.

Only then did he compose himself and take a good look at Sudi.

Surprised: "You didn't even argue back."

Sudi muttered under her breath, "What's there to argue about?"

“In the past, when I talked to you normally, you thought I was being sarcastic.” Today, he was really scolding her, and Sudi actually listened obediently.

Sudi said, fiddling with her fingers, "Thank you."

This beating was to teach Wu Feng a lesson, and also to show those people outside that she has someone backing her up.

In fact, she has never been fond of cultivating connections. Even when she was competing with Gu Nan for the vice president position, all she wanted was fairness.

But as Gu Nan forced Wu Feng to shout out each and every sentence, she suddenly and unexpectedly had a thought that she used to despise the most.

It feels good to have someone backing you up.

"I……"

"Call me 'sister,' and I'll protect you." She smirked lazily.

"Sister Nan."

Gu Nan froze, and after a long while, he let out a loud, powerful shout: "Damn it!"

She originally intended to make sarcastic remarks about Sudi.

Sudi cleared her throat awkwardly and asked, "What's wrong?"

Gu Nan put her hands behind her head, looking calm and melancholy.

So many people call her Sister Nan, I never thought I'd hear it from Su Di's mouth.

It seems like just a few months ago, Sudi was giving her the cold shoulder and glaring at her.

"Does Ji Yuanyu know that Wu Feng treated you like this?"

Sudi's eyes darkened, and he remained silent for a moment: "This is such a small matter, there's no need to make a fuss about it with President Ji."

Without a word, Gu Nan pulled her outside. Su Di quickly closed the door and stumbled forward, following Gu Nan's lead: "Where...where are we going?"

"We demand an explanation."

Su Di was confused. She had just hit someone and was still asking for an explanation. When she entered the elevator and saw the floor number that Gu Nan had pressed, she immediately understood. Before she could react, Gu Nan pulled her to the door of the president's office, where she stubbornly refused to go in.

Gu Nan was surprised: "You're not happy that I'm backing you up?"

"Master Wan is causing trouble again. President Ji is very busy. I haven't even taken this little thing to heart. Please don't bother President Ji."

Her understanding was heartbreaking. Gu Nan released her arm: "Are you sure?"

“Hmm,” Sudi awkwardly touched the tip of her nose, then lowered her head to straighten her clothes, her voice barely audible: “You’ve already taught him a lesson.”

The person involved didn't intend to pursue the matter, and Gu Nan shrugged and joked, "I didn't know you were so magnanimous."

Sudi's ears turned red: "Let's go."

Gu Nan nodded: "You can go now. I need to talk to Ji Yuanyu about something."

“You…” Sudi stammered, unable to get a coherent answer.

Gu Nan understood immediately. Leaning against the wall, she teased, "Something else. Or is it that you want me to..."

Before she could finish speaking, Sudi stamped her foot and retorted in a low voice, "Who wants that? I'm leaving."

I hurriedly and disorganized my steps as I entered the elevator.

Gu Nan leaned against the wall and stared for a while, and the anger in her heart subsided.

Looking up, the door to the CEO's office opened, and Ji Yuanyu's assistant stood in the doorway: "Sister Nan?"

Gu Nan stroked his chin, his face full of inscrutable meaning.

She wondered why the two words sounded so different when they came out of Ji Yuanyu's assistant's mouth compared to when Su Di addressed her.

She bypassed him and went straight to Ji Yuanyu, getting straight to the point: "Do you know that Wu Feng is bullying Su Di?"

The assistant reported from outside: "President Ji doesn't know, but the whole company knows you beat up Wu Feng. Wu Feng just..."

Ji Yuanyu coughed, interrupting his assistant, and looked at Gu Nan, feeling a bit of a headache. She had only just returned and was already causing him trouble. He couldn't scold her or say anything to her. He sighed, "Why did things turn violent?"

Gu Nan strolled around for a bit, then sat down at the table in front of Ji Yuanyu. She bent her knees and pressed them against her chest, casually draping her arms over her calves, and said in a nonchalant tone, "The person who bullied me, I only made him leave standing up because of you. And he still dares to come and complain?"

"When did Sudi become your person?"

"Uh... never mind. I asked you to keep an eye on Sudi before I left, and this is how you keep an eye on her? You sent someone to her office to bully her? You know what kind of person Wu Feng is, he'll be a menace sooner or later if you leave him around."

The assistant couldn't stand it anymore. President Ji really wanted to fire Wu Feng. The compensation was a minor issue, but Wu Feng had just clashed with Gu Nan, and now that Wu Feng was being fired, who knew how those people below would slander Gu Nan's innocence.

He explained politely, "President Ji has been very busy lately. Assistant Su didn't mention it, so President Ji was unaware of it."

"Alright," Ji Yuanyu took his phone and handed it to Gu Nan, changing the subject, "We found four of the graves you wanted. Take a look."

"Efficiency," Gu Nan didn't answer the phone, but grabbed his wrist and pointed the phone at her own eyes. She swiped her right finger up and down a couple of times, and since they all looked about the same, she casually pointed to one. "This one."

Releasing Ji Yuanyu's hand, she flipped over and got off the table: "I'm leaving."

Ji Yuanyu stared at his wrist for a few seconds, about to say something, when Gu Nan closed the door for him.

As I walked, I opened my phone and was about to type when I caught a glimpse of Sudi lingering at the elevator entrance.

Looking up, Sudi's eyes met, and Sudi quickly walked over.

"Wait for me?" Gu Nan was somewhat surprised.

As she got closer, what she saw first wasn't the expression on Sudi's face, but rather a large bunch of red and green tendons that Sudi was holding in her hand.

"For me?" His expression was complicated.

Without a word, Sudi stuffed them all into her pants pocket, saying dryly, "Didn't you like them? I see there are more in the closet."

Gu Nan stared at the spicy strip worth 50 cents for a long time and suddenly understood why Su Di was so upright.

Who's a kind soul who gives spicy snacks as a thank-you gift?

She opened her mouth, unable to utter a word of complaint, patted Sudi on the shoulder, and walked past her downstairs.

As evening approached, the air was exceptionally fresh after the rain.

The fading rays of the setting sun reflected off the glass windows, turning a corner of the building a dazzling red.

From the moment she stepped out of the New Times building, it seemed as if a gaze was always fixed on her from behind. When she turned around, there was only the evening breeze blowing in front of the empty building.

The discomfort of being spied on was like a thorn in her side.

His eyes rolled halfway around in their sockets, and his peripheral vision swept across the automatic sensor doors in the hall. Not only did he fail to catch a glimpse of the person behind him, but the feeling of being watched became even clearer.

She sighed, braced herself against the roof of the car with one hand, leaned half her body against the car body, bent one leg, took out a lighter from her pocket, and fiddled with it absently in her hand.

There wasn't a soul in sight in front of the empty building.

Gu Nan smiled wickedly: "You're quite composed."

A deep glint flashed in his eyes. He opened the car door, stepped on the gas, and the scenery outside the window rushed past in an instant.

Half a minute later.

The car, which should have driven away, stopped back on the side road.

After getting off the bus and walking around to the back building of the New Times, I indeed saw a furtive figure next to the building.

She quietly took two steps forward, and the more she looked at the back of the figure, the more familiar it seemed.
