Apologize

Who are you?

The man was dressed in a suit. He had a well-defined face with thick eyebrows, most of which were hidden by black-rimmed glasses. His tired eyes were also hidden. The wrinkles in his clothes and his loose tie all proved that he had been temporarily removed from an important occasion.

The room was filled with people, each with a different expression, and no one answered.

The man's gaze swept over the group of bodyguards, finally settling on three people not far from the ward.

The thug couldn't wait to speak: "Brother, you're finally here! They...they hit me!"

He slid his index finger from Xue Li to Gu Nan and cursed, "It's this person wearing a mask. I don't know her at all. She came in without saying or asking anything, and then she hit me—ouch!" The thug spoke hurriedly, pulling at the wound on his lip and wincing in pain, but he still didn't forget to complain.

"Brother, you have to get someone to fight back!" With someone backing him up, the thug became even more arrogant, squinting at Gu Nan with haughty arrogance.

"Do you know Far East Capital? My brother is the assistant to CEO Kang of Kang Shengtai, and my childhood friend is a good buddy of Young Master Wan Sizong. Young Master Wan will be coming to see me soon. You dare to hit me? I think you're all tired of living. You'd better apologize to me right now, or I'll make you regret it."

The man frowned and scolded softly, "Xiao Wu."

"Brother! I got bullied! Look at my head, eight stitches! It hurts so much, I'm still bleeding. The doctor said I need at least six months to recover, and the cast on my leg can't be removed for three months. I'm practically a cripple, and you're still lecturing me?"

The man caught a glimpse of the blood gushing from the man's forehead out of the corner of his eye. His eyes narrowed, and he rushed to the bedside, hurriedly calling for a doctor. In the few minutes it took for the doctor to arrive, he carefully examined the man from head to toe.

The doctor took off his disposable gloves, turned around and said there was no major problem, but he should be careful not to make any more sudden movements.

The man thanked him repeatedly, saw the person out, and the moment he turned back after closing the door, his expression changed.

He stared intently at Gu Nan and sneered, "You dare to hit someone in the hospital, but you don't dare to take off your mask?"

Gu Nan's eyes were even colder than his. Before she could speak, Xue Li suddenly stepped forward and pulled her, causing her to stumble. Her voluptuous body blocked her view, but unfortunately, her height was limited and she couldn't completely shield her from the view.

But they also put in their utmost effort.

Gu Nan's eyes were slightly red, her fists clenched so tightly they cracked, afraid that if she spoke, she would choke up, so she lowered her head and remained silent.

"I thought that the older brother would at least know some manners and shame, but it turns out they are all birds of a feather. The younger brother is idle and good-for-nothing, and the older brother is also unable to distinguish right from wrong and has no bottom line. They are truly a family. Since that's the case, I have nothing more to say."

Xue Li touched her face and sneered, "Your brother is getting aroused by a middle-aged woman like me and saying inappropriate things. Could it be that he's following in your footsteps, brother?"

Show some respect.

Unable to bear it any longer, Gu Nan grabbed Xue Li's arm and pushed her next to Wan Yi, staring intently at the man as she finished speaking to him.

"Take her away. If anyone dares to touch her, no one will be leaving."

Wan Yi glanced sideways instinctively; he rarely saw Gu Nan angry, especially not outwardly so.

The bodyguards were watching intently, while the man stood in the doorway, refusing to budge an inch.

Gu Nan sneered, raised her foot and kicked the solid wood chair in front of the bedside table. The force was so great that the chair hit the bedside table and bounced back to the corner of the wall. With a crisp cracking sound, the wooden chair shattered into pieces, the supporting column broke in the middle, and the white bed sheet was covered with wood chips.

The thug froze, staring blankly at the crumbs on the plaster, too afraid to move.

Gu Nan hooked his toes onto the supporting column, reached out and grabbed it, using the momentum to swing it half a circle, his palm gripping the top of the wooden column, and then pointed with his backhand.

The scattered debris resembled the annihilation after a grand fireworks display.

"Get out of the way."

The man rolled up his sleeves, his face turning completely ashen: "What a joke, you hit someone and think you can just walk away, you... um."

The rest of his words were slammed back into his stomach by the wooden pillar, and the man fell to the ground with a thud, his glasses falling to the side, his face filled with only pain.

Wan Yi glanced back at Gu Nan, then reached out and pulled the dazed Xue Li out the door.

"Chase!"

“Peng”.

Gu Nan kicked the door shut, placing the wooden pillar across his front, and said in a low voice, "Who dares?"

The bodyguards exchanged glances, hesitating to step forward. Young Master Wan's orders were to protect the person in the hospital bed; the woman before them was terrifyingly insane, and they dared not leave the remaining three in the room. Besides, if she escaped, they could simply catch her again.

The group quickly figured it out, exchanged glances, and kept a close eye on Gu Nan's movements, only to find that she seemed uninterested in the person on the hospital bed.

She walked step by step toward the man who was struggling to get up.

Her words were vicious: "Respect? So you know what respect is? Does your brother respect others? Are you proud to rub salt into other people's wounds? Are you happy to see others in pain? Do you feel a sense of accomplishment in bullying the weak?"

Even after being beaten, the man remained unfazed. He picked up his glasses, and upon discovering the lenses were shattered, he simply tossed them aside: "No matter what, you started the fight by injuring him first. Now you've beaten him to the hospital and are still going to punch and kick the person lying in the hospital bed. Fine, he has a traumatic brain injury, limb dysfunction, and I have a disability assessment. I'd like to see how you plan to clean up this mess."

Gu Nan stared at him for a long time, then her gaze shifted slightly. The hoodlum with his leg dangling from the head of the bed was still lost in thought. She picked up her stick and walked toward the bed.

The man immediately raised his leg to block her way, glaring angrily: "You still dare to be arrogant!"

Gu Nan leaned back and laughed coldly: "Arrogant? You might as well ask your CEO Kang whether I can be arrogant, and whether I have the right to be arrogant in front of you."

The man was stunned for a moment, unable to react immediately.

A black hoodie covered his forehead, and a mask hid the lower half of his face. His eyes were beautiful, but he was certain that this person was not on Kang's list of friends.

"Who are you?"

"You may not know, but Kang Shengtai certainly wouldn't dare not know." Lu Yushi didn't mention breaking up, which made it easier for her to use her status to pressure him.

His anger subsided considerably after he swung the wooden pillar, his reason returned, and his mind began to wander.

She could certainly beat them up and warn them not to act recklessly, and she could also prevent these bodyguards from going out to chase after Xue Li at this moment, but she couldn't guarantee that she could secretly protect Xue Li every moment.

To solve this problem, we must address its root cause.

"President Kang doesn't keep idle people around him, and he also has a family. He doesn't have any young female friends. Even if you're going to make up a lie, you'd better make it believable." Although the man hadn't been with the company long, he had heard some of the company gossip. Years ago, someone impersonated the fiancée of the young master of the Lu family to deceive President Kang. It was said that if President Kang and the young master of the Lu family hadn't had a childhood friendship, the two might have fallen out because of it.

When the same tactic was used on Kang Shengtai, he almost immediately uttered a sarcastic remark.

Gu Nan scoffed: "Gu Nan, that's my name."

She slightly raised her chin, her sharp, heroic eyes revealing a hint of something else: "You ask me now, Gu Nan, whether I can act arrogantly here."

The man took out his phone with some skepticism, his focused gaze oblivious to the sudden change in the expressions of his bodyguards.

Gu Nan once again lifted her foot and hooked the only intact chair left in the ward. The chair leg scraped against the floor, and the "crack" sound made everyone's hearts tremble.

Seeing that she simply sat down, they couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

The man spoke respectfully, finished his sentence simply, and waited for the other person's reply. He kept the phone volume very low, so low that even in the quietest hospital room, it was impossible to hear what was being said. His expression grew increasingly strange.

The call ended with a single "Yes".

The man's expression remained unpleasant, but he no longer confronted Gu Nan forcefully.

"You can leave now. We'll accept our loss."

Gu Nan chuckled softly, her gaze focused on the wooden pillar in her hand, and raised an eyebrow: "Admit defeat?"

“Miss Gu, I really don’t dare to offend you, but please don’t push your luck. My brother’s injury is very serious.”

"He only has himself to blame."

"You!" The man clenched his fist and suppressed his anger, turning his back to clean the debris off his brother's plaster.

"Bang!"

The wooden post struck the bed frame; the sound traveled extremely quickly through the steel, and in the blink of an eye, it seemed as if the entire hospital bed was vibrating. The arrogance in the thug's eyes vanished along with the sound.

The man, at his wit's end, shouted: "What else do you want to do!"

Gu Nan lazily turned her head and stared at the thug, asking, "You, explain what happened clearly, without missing a single word."

He played with the wooden post in his right hand, tapping it repeatedly on his left palm, the frequency increasing as if urging him on.

The thug's voice trembled: "Brother...brother."

When Gu Nan got tired of knocking, he propped the wooden pillar against the leg that the thug was hanging from, the pillar intentionally or unintentionally brushing against the plaster cast.

“I have a bad temper and limited patience. Explain yourself, and this is the end of it.”

The thug tugged at his brother's sleeve, but received no response. He slowly vomited, "She bumped into my car. I didn't ask her for compensation, I just suggested we have a meal together. Then she hit me, thinking I treated her badly..."

"lie!"

Gu Nan flipped the wooden post over and placed it on the thug's other intact leg, narrowing her eyes: "If you still want this leg, you'd better tell the truth."

The thug, holding his breath, retorted, "I'm just telling the truth. I don't know how you threatened my brother, but don't try to make me distort the facts."

Gu Nan glanced at him, then put the wooden pillar back: "Okay."

Seeing the thug breathe a sigh of relief, she leaned back against the hospital bed frame, looking at him with a forced smile, her voice calm: "You think I can't fix the surveillance footage you had deleted?"

The thug looked on in astonishment. Gu Nan stood up, calmly smoothing the hem of her clothes, and glanced at the man: "Kang Shengtai's assistant?"

The man grunted but didn't say anything.

"You're not convinced? You think your brother got the short end of the stick?"

"Miss Gu has gotten what she wanted. Are you still going to stay and humiliate people?"

"Compared to your brother, what kind of insult is this?" Gu Nan raised her hand and threw the wooden pillar to the man.

The man instinctively caught it: "What do you mean?"

"It's not that I'm standing up for your brother, but I also want to get an explanation for my friend." Gu Nan took out her phone from her pocket, looked down, and saw a message from Meng Qing pop up.

A compressed file.

Gu Nan slid her fingers away: "It won't take long, half an hour, let's watch it together."
