Wrongfully convicted

Wrongfully convicted

Inside the main hall, the three stood with their heads bowed, their shadows stretching long and intertwined on the stone bricks.

Shen Ming shifted his gaze three times, glancing at the sinister look between Master Wan's brows. The words that were about to come out stuck in his throat, his Adam's apple bobbing, but he remained silent.

Gu Nan then turned her gaze, a sweet smile curving her lips, but her shallow eyes seemed veiled in mist, making it impossible to discern the deeper meaning beneath the smile.

Knowing what Shen Ming was thinking, she bet that Shen Ming wouldn't tell the truth, at least not now.

"Young Master." The bodyguards greeted him from outside the door.

Then the footsteps drew closer, and Gu Nan looked up to see Wan Sizong strolling in with his hands behind his back.

Before his right foot even touched the ground, Master Wan roared, "Look what you've done!"

Logically, as the one who filed the complaint, Gu Nan should have offered a few words of advice to make things easier for everyone, but Gu Nan did not. She shrugged her shoulders, put on an innocent smile, and stared straight at Wan Sizong.

It's more like a silent provocation.

Their eyes met, and Wan Sizong's face instantly contorted into a ferocious expression. His eyes shot out with venom, and his taut cheeks pulled at the scabbed wounds, causing two streams of tissue fluid to trickle down the curve of his right cheek. His wide-open eyes seemed ready to pop out at any moment, scaring her to death.

Gu Nan pursed her lips.

What's the use?

"Crack." The crisp sound of metal hitting the ground suddenly rang out, and the two of them simultaneously looked away.

The badge that had rolled to the ground still gleamed coldly.

Master Wan slammed his hand on the table, making the teacups and fruit plate clatter. His fingertips turned slightly white from the force, as if he were furious. He growled, "How many times have I told you, he's your brother!"

"Huh?" Wan Sizong looked completely bewildered, his brows furrowed in deep confusion. "What do you mean?"

"What do you mean?" Master Wan raised his voice and asked. He hadn't entirely believed what Gu Nan had said earlier, but now that he saw Wan Sizong pretending to be stupid, he believed him to a large extent. Wan Sizong had hurt Wan Yi more than once, and each time he had dealt with him with this dazed and clueless act.

Even with outsiders present, they still act as if they don't know anything.

The pent-up resentment of the past few days erupted into a torrent of rage: "Still playing dumb with me? Am I blind? Is everyone blind? How many times has this happened? You tell me!"

Gu Nan clenched her teeth to hold back her laughter. Every time it was true, and Master Wan always pretended to be deaf and dumb. But this time, Wan Sizong did nothing and just listened to Master Wan's cursing.

She spoke in a sarcastic tone from behind, "Young Master Wan can't treat everyone like fools. So many people saw you smash Wan Yi's car and cut a huge gash on him. Luckily, Wan Yi is lucky. Although you cut his artery, he was treated in time and survived."

"Nonsense, when did I..."

"You scratched an artery?" Master Wan's eyes narrowed.

Gu Nan shrugged: "Don't worry, Master Wan, he's not dead yet. But whether he can always escape danger is anyone's guess."

"You bastard!" The cane, a symbol of his status, was slammed into the ground, causing the entire roof beam to tremble.

It was clear that Gu Nan was extremely angry and struggling to suppress her laughter. She had to put on a show of unbearable rage: "We have witnesses and evidence. When will Young Master Wan stop pretending to be stupid?"

Even if Wan Sizong was slow-witted, he could guess that he had been framed. He had no intention of being nice to Gu Nan and retorted coldly, "I don't even know when I smashed Wan Yi's car. Who is the witness? Where is the evidence? You're just making baseless accusations. You have no respect for the Wan family."

He subtly hinted to Master Wan that Gu Nan harbored ulterior motives.

With so many past incidents and Wan Sizong's numerous criminal records, how could Master Wan still believe him? He cursed, "You still dare to argue?"

Wan Sizong opened his mouth, glared fiercely at Gu Nan, and then helplessly squatted down to pick up the badge. He rubbed it slightly with his fingertips and confirmed that it was the one he had lost that morning.

He had been furious that morning because he couldn't find his badge, but now that it had appeared, he was in trouble with Master Wan again. He couldn't understand: "How did it get here?"

Gu Nan strode over, looking down at her, her tone as light as a sigh, yet every word was barbed: "Otherwise what? Should we be at the crime scene?"

"What nonsense!" Wan Sizong suddenly looked up, clenching his teeth, his eyes filled with hatred. He was 100% certain that Gu Nan was just stirring up trouble, but he couldn't understand how Gu Nan had gotten his badge. Could there be a spy in his family? "I don't understand what you're saying."

Gu Nan smiled faintly, then turned to look at Master Wan, her voice suddenly turning cold: "What does Master Wan think?"

A long silence ensued. The sunlight, lacking warmth, bathed only half the room in a golden glow. Master Wan stood before his chair, the oppressive atmosphere untouched by the light. He stood in the shadows, his head bowed, his piercing eyes calculating with shrewdness.

What kind of explanation do you want?

Gu Nan walked around twice with her hands behind her back, then patiently negotiated, "Seeing Master Wan's sincerity, let me speak. Saying too much or too little would be inappropriate."

Fearing he might forget things as he gets older, Gu Nan deliberately waved her phone in front of him to remind him that there were still videos on it.

"Xiao Yi asked you to come over?" Master Wan's expression was gloomy.

Gu Nan waved her hand: "I'm just being kind. If Master Wan can't control his own family, and asks me and Lu Yushi to help teach the people behind it a lesson, then in the future..." She paused, her words slowing down, "Wan Yi and Lu Yushi standing together, wouldn't that turn you father and son into enemies?"

"Just tell me what you want."

Having said that, Gu Nan stopped stalling: "I have a batch of goods that I need Master Wan's help with."

Master Wan glanced at her thoughtfully, then instructed his assistant to exchange contact information before coldly dismissing her.

Gu Nan remained unmoved: "Also, give me back the courtyard."

"A small courtyard?" Master Wan was completely confused. He took Gu Nan's small courtyard from her, his brows furrowed. "What small courtyard?"

Gu Nan said "Hey!" and raised her voice: "Don't play dumb. You asked Ji Yuanyu for the courtyard. Is it yours? You just want it."

Master Wan was completely baffled: "Ji Yuanyu's courtyard?"

"Don't you dare play dumb with me. You don't remember what happened this morning? Are you senile?"

Even though Master Wan was usually very composed, his chest began to heave violently, and he forced out each word through gritted teeth: "Don't push your luck."

"Who's really going too far? Is there a single word of nonsense in the article published by the New Times? You bully Ji Yuanyu because you have power and influence, and I'll bully you because I have Lu Yushi. Very well, very fair." Gu Nan was also furious. He took over the small courtyard and was still pretending to be stupid. Does the Wan family have several houses and they're not short of a small courtyard? To put it bluntly, he's just bullying Ji Yuanyu because the Wan family isn't as powerful as them.

Grandpa Wan's hand, which was holding a cane, trembled with anger. He had made a wasted trip that morning, gaining nothing and getting himself into trouble.

He went to see Ji Yuanyu without any preparation. In his eyes, the Ji family was an ant that could be crushed at any time. The fact that he agreed to meet with Ji Yuanyu was a favor to him. Originally, the situation was completely under his control, but unexpectedly, before all the food was served, Sun Qian showed up uninvited.

He wasn't particularly afraid of Lu Yushi; he just didn't want to disrupt the situation in Beicheng.

After finally convincing herself to swallow her anger and leave, Gu Nan chased after her and came to beat her up.

Do you really think he's someone who's easy to bully?

The more he thought about it, the gloomier his face became. If Lu Yushi was determined to turn Beicheng upside down, he should prepare for it sooner rather than later.

He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and instructed his assistant to follow Gu Nan to choose a courtyard.

"Let him take you to choose, take whichever one you like." After saying that, he gave his assistant a look, signaling for the guest to leave.

"Master Wan is so generous." Gu Nan, having gotten a good deal, followed her assistant out. The Wan family's courtyard was much better than Ji Yuanyu's. She would give Ji Yuanyu a surprise when she got back.

The footsteps faded into the distance, leaving only a blurry figure in sight. Master Wan turned his head to look at Wan Sizong. Their eyes met, and Wan Sizong spoke first, protesting his innocence: "Dad, I really didn't."

Suspicion arose like a tide. Master Wan scrutinized Wan Yi for a moment: "How did your badge end up in her hands?"

Wan Sizong laughed in anger: "How should I know? I didn't see it when I woke up this morning. I thought someone had just thrown it somewhere. I was furious."

A draft swept through the doorway, making the room rattle and clatter. The coolness of the air was carried in by the wind. Grandpa Wan looked up at the clouds piled up on the horizon and murmured, "The weather is about to change."

Wan Sizong was taken aback and asked, "What exactly does Lu Yushi want to do?"

"Keep in touch with Xiao Chu more often recently; he can be a great help if needed."

Wan Sizong responded, looking much better than Master Wan. Lu Yushi only had the Qiu family as an ally in Beicheng. He was also close to the young master of the Shen family, and the two young masters, Shen and Chu, were childhood friends. By any measure, their chances of winning were much greater than Lu Yushi's.

He raised his hand and slowly stroked his right cheek, where the wound had already reopened. His eyes narrowed as he stared into the distance, and he murmured, "Gu Nan, I'll get my revenge on you sooner or later."

"Stay home as much as possible these days." Master Wan glanced at the scars on Wan Sizong's face and warned, "Don't take any action on your own. If I find out you've done anything dirty again, don't blame me for not giving you face in public."

Wan Sizong responded and left with a sullen face.

The old butler slowly walked over and whispered, "Young Master is just upset, please don't be too angry."

Master Wan shook his head, turned around and sat down steadily. He was just afraid that Wan Sizong would ruin things, so he casually asked, "Where is Shen Ming?"

"They said they had something to do at home and had to leave."

Master Wan nodded, and after a while, he instructed, "Go tell Sizong to appease Shen Ming and not let Gu Nan's few words ruin the relationship between the two families."

-

"You mean, Master Wan knew about it?" Shen Ming still couldn't quite believe it.

Gu Nan turned her head, her gaze meeting his eyes directly, her expression filled with unwavering certainty: "With so many years of friendship between Master Wan and Lin Jianye, do you think he wouldn't know?"

"If Lin Haoyu intended to keep this a secret, how would Master Wan know?"

Gu Nan smiled casually: "Believe it or not is up to you. She's your own sister. Whether you feel sorry for her or not is none of my business. It's my fault for being nosy."

Shen Ming paused, quickly grabbed her sleeve, and said, "That's not what I meant."

"Then think about it. The incident happened so suddenly. Instead of asking your sister for clarification, Master Wan is in a hurry to make up false evidence. What are his intentions?"
