Chapter 103 Righteous Monk
On the boat shrouded in the mist, the silhouette of the ferryman gently waved his long pole, and the boat swung nimbly, landing at the ferry crossing and revealing its true form. What surprised Luo Xuanyi was that the old fisherman didn't have any aura of cultivation. Even after careful investigation, he was just an old man in his fifties with white hair and beard.
A simple boat awning arched, revealing three young men and women in diverse clothing. The oldest-looking man wore a jade crown, cradled in his arms, a long sword in his arms, and a wooden box slung across his back. He sat at the outermost edge of the awning, eyes closed, letting the sword tassel sway in the wind. A lively young woman, adorned with ornate jade ornaments jingling, wore a flowing blue veil in shades of light. The male monk opposite her gazed at her in silence, his hands clasped in his dark green sleeves, his demeanor remarkably composed.
Luo Xuanyi could tell at a glance that all three were at the Foundation Establishment stage. The cultivator in the dark green robe was the highest, having reached the Great Perfection of the Foundation Establishment stage. To put it bluntly, for Luo Xuanyi, who had broken through the first level of the All Evils Attracting Ghosts Art and entered the middle stage of the Hungry Ghost Realm, destroying these three would be no problem. Therefore, she simply observed the situation calmly.
The three of them realized that the boat had stopped and turned their eyes to Luo Xuanyi.
Luo Xuanyi observed their expressions carefully. No one's gaze shifted towards their real bodies. Everyone stared at their bodies and raised their eyebrows secretly.
Among all the people, the ferryman put down his bamboo pole first, then bent down, picked up his fish basket, and threw it toward the shore. A plump black fish flew out of the basket, struggling in the air with its tail, but still fell heavily to the ferry. The ferryman lowered his head and muttered silently. Luo Xuanyi only heard the four words "River God's Blessing", and for a moment the scene was extremely strange.
The three men on the boat clearly didn't think anything was wrong. They waited quietly for the ferryman's prayer to end. The leading monk slowly raised his right hand to the hilt of his sword, as if ready to start a fight if anything went wrong.
As the ferryman suddenly pulled up a black flag on the bow and rolled it towards Luo Xuanyi, the black flag suddenly unfolded and swept in the air. Luo Xuanyi only felt that there was a familiar existence in the mist looking at her, and the eyes seemed to wander over Luo Xuanyi's body with a little doubt, as if judging something.
Luo Xuanyi silently recited the "All Evils Facing Ghosts" technique, her eyes fixed on every move of everyone on the boat. If she saw any unusual movement, she would abandon her intelligence gathering and simply kill everyone. However, the being in the mist seemed unable to distinguish Luo Xuanyi's body, which contained a living soul, as evil. The black flag was retracted, and a scale shot out from it, landing on the side of the black fish.
The three people on the boat breathed a sigh of relief, and their eyes turned friendly as they looked at Luo Xuanyi.
The ferryman spoke first. He put away the black flag and said respectfully to Luo Xuanyi, "Sir, do you want to cross the river?"
Luo Xuanyi thought for a moment and nodded readily: "Let's go to Xuanchengzhou and find a ferry."
As Luo Xuanyi boarded the boat, the young girl, unable to conceal her curiosity, raised her hand to draw Luo Xuanyi's attention. A smile revealed her two small fangs: "Fellow Daoist, your attire doesn't seem like someone from the six major alliances. Are you a free cultivator from Baicheng?"
The dark green robed monk said in a slightly stern tone: "Qitao, it is very rude to ask someone's origin without telling their name." After saying that, he stood up, bent down and walked out of the boat awning, nodded to Luo Xuanyi, "My fellow Taoist, my junior sister is rude. I am Xi Xingji from the Black Wood Sect, and this junior sister is Qu Qitao from the Xinghai Palace. As for this..."
The sword-wielding monk glanced at Luo Xuanyi's face and only touched her lips a few times: "Shang Qian, the Exorcist Sword Sect."
Xi Xingji was clearly dissatisfied with Shang Qian's attitude, but he didn't point it out directly like he did with Qu Qitao. Instead, he frowned and continued, "...We are all cultivators from the six major alliances. We are traveling to Fu Jishan in Xuancheng Prefecture to handle official business. I wonder who you are from?"
Luo Xuanyi was initially shocked by this statement, which revealed everything about herself right from the start. However, seeing how naturally and openly he spoke, and the two people behind him showing no disapproval, she probably understood the righteous side's style of work. She was just afraid of being too enthusiastic and revealing a flaw, so she simply imitated Shang Qian and said, "Sansei cultivator, Xuanyi."
The ferryman sang the ballad again, pushed the bamboo pole, and the boat floated away like a green bamboo leaf, quickly leaving the shore.
The space was completely filled with mist and rain. Luo Xuanyi could not see anything beyond one step with her naked eyes, but with the eyes of a strange cultivator, she could easily see through the mist. There were some black shadows floating in the mist, which seemed to be human-shaped or indescribably strange.
However, these dark shadows just surrounded the boat, as if they were curious about the people on board, without showing any malice.
Shang Qian glanced at her and moved a few steps toward the boat awning. Xi Xingji invited her to take a seat, and finally, his expression turned a little more favorable towards Shang Qian. Luo Xuanyi thanked him and sat down in the boat awning, using her Qi to steam her clothes dry.
"Fellow Daoist Xuanyi, you have great skills." Qu Qitao seemed unable to tolerate the silence and started to talk again. "Fellow Daoist, you just went to the ferry. Could it be that you are already practicing wandering enlightenment? I see that you are not much older than me, but your skills are so profound. I am really curious. Why don't you join the six major alliances?"
Luo Xuanyi was a little overwhelmed by this overly enthusiastic person, so she simply responded from the heart, "I just hit a bottleneck, so I'm wandering around trying to break through. It's nothing special."
Although Luo Xuanyi's response was cold, Qu Qitao was even happier. The ferrymen on this boat never participated in conversations. Shang Qian and Xi Xingji were both incredibly boring. Luo Xuanyi's response was a good thing. She immediately continued, "Since you're unsure of your destination, why not join us on a trip to Fuji Mountain? It's said to be a gathering basin for spirits, with water surrounding the mountain..."
Xi Xingji interrupted Qu Qitao with a low voice: "Qitao, don't embarrass Fellow Daoist Xuanyi."
Luo Xuanyi wanted to complain, wasn't the important thing to reveal the mission secrets? But Qu Qitao's words still piqued her interest. "The basin of gathering spirits, surrounded by water and holding up the mountain," she repeated silently several times and asked Qu Qitao, "Isn't this a place of ghosts?"
Qu Qitao, who had been lowering his head, immediately perked up when he heard Luo Xuanyi's interest. He glared at Xi Xingji triumphantly. Xi Xingji looked helpless and just listened to Qu Qitao's incessant chatter.
