Chapter 2 Leaving Home
"Wake up! You dare to sleep in today? Are you trying to save your life, you lazy bastard?"
Yi Sanmei's thin body was curled up in a small ball. Yi Laoda hit her skin, which was exposed by the holes in her clothes, with hay several times, and the pain made her wake up suddenly.
"Alright, alright, come with me. The boss above is coming to harvest, so you better be alert."
Seeing her kneeling down and kowtowing for mercy skillfully, Boss Yi grabbed his sister and dragged her into the hall. Inside, more than a dozen sisters and brothers were already lined up along the wall, holding bowls in their hands, staring blankly at the floor.
She took the last bowl with several large holes in it from the table and stood at the end, regretting why she slept so deeply today.
I vaguely had a dream, but I don't remember it at all.
Boss Yi began to eat. Everything on the table belonged to him and his father. The mother was responsible for childbirth. After consuming the Fumu Fruit, her meals were distributed by the important figures who managed the Third Valley, and her father brought her food and fed her. He would eat before leaving.
That would be great, if only I could stay and be the pregnant woman, or if I could be the father, then I wouldn’t have to go hungry.
Third sister Yi prayed longingly that eldest brother Yi would eat less today because of the harvest. Her brothers and sisters all thought the same.
After crunching the bones, Boss Yi finally remembered they were still hungry. He poured the broken bone and vegetable soup into the rice bucket, opened the pot lid, ladled a few ladles of hot water, stirred it a few times, and brought the bucket over to knock on the rim.
"It's time to eat. I'll let you eat well today. Don't embarrass my Yi family. If a few of you come back, I'll serve them all at the next meal!"
Boss Yi said this viciously, but all the children stared at the rice bucket and swallowed their saliva violently, and no one cared about anything else.
To survive, you need to get some sleep before you can think about tomorrow.
Each person was only allowed one spoonful, and by the time it was Yi Sanmei's turn, there was only a little rice water with oil and vegetable residue left, but it was already much better than before. Yi Sanmei carefully tilted the bowl to her lips and swallowed with her mouth wide open.
"Yi family, everyone come out!"
After swallowing the last bite, everyone put their bowls back on the table in silence and walked out the door. Yi Sanmei looked back one last time and left without any regrets.
"Those under ten years old, stand here. Everyone else, wait in the back for your turn."
Yi Sanmei and several children who were born at the same time were exactly ten years old. They stood in the front of the team together, their hearts pounding.
Standing at the front was someone respected in the valley as an Outer Sect Master. He glanced around and told a few disabled people to step aside and form a line. Those standing out immediately had their faces twisted in fear, about to kneel and cry, but the glances from their respective fathers at home frightened them so much that they swallowed their snot.
"Why are there so few people under ten this time?"
Suddenly, a figure beside the Outer Sect Master frowned and spoke. Third Sister Yi cautiously stole a glance and noticed he was dressed even better than the Outer Sect Master. Two characters were embroidered in silver thread on his red and black clothes. But she had never learned to read, so she couldn't understand.
"Brother Deacon, the yield has been poor in recent years, and it's not just ours. Even the yields of Yuan and Jing have declined."
"It's fine, after all, most of the products are produced by our junior brothers. However, it's unacceptable for you to produce medicinal herbs and ginseng. Materials are in short supply everywhere now. If there are any problems, investigate and report them as soon as possible."
The Outer Sect Master bowed and nodded. Third Sister Yi vaguely realized that the Outer Sect Master who had the power of life and death over her was actually just a lowly Outer Sect disciple.
The outer sect steward took a group of them and placed them on a boat, then mixed them up and divided them into several teams. He counted them and said, "There are already sixty people in this group. Divide them into three teams and take them back first."
The six outer disciples on the boat came out to receive orders. Two by two, each team of twenty people, took out a small object from their sleeves and threw it to the ground. Suddenly, a spirit boat stood on the ground.
It was not until she got on board that Yi Sanmei realized in her heart: I have the opportunity to become a member of the Zang Yao clan.
