Chapter 6 Undercurrent

Chapter 6 Undercurrent

Sister Yi San tried hard to hide her emotions, slowly walked towards the steamed buns that had fallen to the ground, and bent down to pick up some. Except for a few people in the crowd who noticed her, the rest of the people's attention was drawn to Shen San and Yan Wu.

A few skinny children, staring intently at the steamed buns but afraid to touch them, stole glances at Yi Sanmei. Yi Sanmei vaguely remembered how, when she was seven or eight, she'd never been able to snatch more from the others, always eating only half full. Feeling soft-hearted, she tossed some of the steamed bun crumbs over. The children who grabbed the pieces didn't dare keep them in their hands, desperately stuffing them into their mouths.

Yi Sanmei first placed the steamed buns in a bucket to soak up the water, then wrapped the soft buns in her clothes and kept them close to her body. Even if the water seeped out and made her feel sticky and uncomfortable, it was better than the thirst of having food but no water later.

Shen San stood up from the motionless Yan Wu. The splattered blood made the corners of his clothes hang heavy and straight, dripping with blood bit by bit. He looked around, but no one dared to look him in the eye. Everyone was oppressed by a heavy atmosphere, even breathing slowly.

Except for Yi Sanmei. She was carrying a bucket and slowly walked towards Shen San.

Yi Sanmei had never killed anyone. She had an instinctive fear of Shen Sanbao, who was covered in blood. But she still gritted her teeth and walked steadily step by step, forcing herself not to show any fear.

Yi Sanmei stopped when she was about seven or eight steps away from Shen San. Even in the dark, at this distance, she could clearly see every inch of Yan Wu's rotten flesh. As Shen San stared silently, Yi Sanmei and he exchanged a silent gaze.

Her yellow pupils glowed faintly in the darkness, and she was slowly assessing the situation. Yi Sanmei maintained her gaze with him and slowly placed the bucket at her feet.

The bucket's handle drooped limply, making a thin snapping sound. Everyone was on edge.

She took out the cloth bag and opened a corner to signal to Shen San, which was also a sign of weakness. After confirming that he had no intention of snatching these soft and rotten food, which was not much, Yi Sanmei slowly retreated and returned to the corner where she had originally stayed.

As she retreated into the darkness, the air immediately became filled with a sense of peace and quiet. Shen San looked at the crowds of people trying to please him and quietly exhaled.

He hid his still trembling thumb in his fist and deliberately showed a fearless and bloody smile.

The crowd quickly split into three groups: one led by Shen San, mostly older children; another group of capable people like Yi Sanmei who hid alone in corners; and another group of skinny children who felt vaguely excluded by the larger group and huddled together in confusion.

Yi Sanmei knew that these people were considered "sheep." As a family living in the valley, they could easily see that this amount of food was definitely not enough to feed twenty children for three days. Even if it was distributed equally, one meal per person per day would not be enough.

If this happened in the orderly valley, no one would object even if everyone was hungry. But this was in the dark cabin, and a living person had just died.

If the two outer sect masters did not come in to replenish food and water after three days, then Yan Wu would definitely not be the only corpse in the cabin after three days.

By then, I must demonstrate my strength. Third Sister Yi quietly touched the dagger in her bosom through her clothes with her fingers, feeling a little relieved. To replenish her strength, she bit by bit, breaking off the soft steamed buns and eating them.

Shen San piled almost all the food next to Yan Wu's body and randomly assigned two people to gather up the splattered flesh and internal organs and pile them on top of Yan Wu's stomach. He sat next to the food, his elbows resting on the bucket, and devoured the blood-soaked steamed buns with big mouthfuls. When he was finished, he satisfiedly let the eight people sitting around him share five buns.

The two ten-year-old children who sat closest to Shen San took the steamed buns. Seeing Shen San eat two steamed buns, they didn't dare to take more, so they each took one. The other six people each took half and didn't dare to ask for more.

Looking at them, Shen San suddenly laughed out loud: "If you follow me, you must eat your fill. There will be plenty of work to do later."

These words were blatantly terrifying. But Shen San remained calm and took out his thin willow knife. He leaned sideways and gently scraped Yan Wu's body. When he turned back to face the eight people, the beautiful willow-leaf blade was already dangling with minced meat and internal organs.

"Eat." Shen San ordered concisely.

The eight people were stunned. Yi Sanmei felt a chill run through her body. Everyone had probably anticipated the crisis, but none had the courage of Shen San. On the first day, for the first meal, he actually asked to eat human flesh with his men!

The gap between those who have experience and those who have not will be huge in these three days.

Seeing their hesitation, Shen San smiled, then grabbed a bunch of innards, stuffed them into his mouth, and began to chew. Seeing him eat, the eight people dared not to resist. Some vomited after stuffing the food into their mouths, while others cried while eating, but no one dared to resist Shen San.

Everyone in the cabin who was watching silently had different thoughts in their minds, and undercurrents were surging in the cabin.
