Chapter 304: Southeast (4)

Chapter 304: Southeast (4)

The caller's current condition didn't allow him to walk alone. Luo Xuanyi first took out the empty boxes of various artifacts she had collected earlier, melted them into a long chain with the flame of the Bewitching Servant, and set it aside for the time being.

The chains made a few crisp "clattering" sounds as they fell to the ground, and the skinny dog came over curiously to watch. Luo Xuanyi bent down to touch its head and picked a small clump of purple tear bamboo at her feet.

Picking out a perfectly sized piece of purple tear bamboo and holding it in her hand, Luo Xuanyi flicked her sleeves, releasing dozens of streams of death energy. The death energy lifted the caller up at top speed, splitting into dozens of thin strands that simultaneously picked up all the gold and stone on the ground and stuffed them all back into the caller's sleeves.

Taking advantage of Huzhe's failure to react, he threw him onto Longyue's back. The chain immediately coiled around Longyue's body and locked Huzhe, who was lying on his back.

Huzhe only realized then and tried to struggle, but Luo Xuanyi was already prepared - she hung a gold necklace on one end of the purple tear bamboo and gently inserted the bamboo into Huzhe's messy hair to secure it.

The gorgeous gold jewelry just hung in front of the caller's eyes, and the sunlight made the chain shine brightly. The caller immediately stopped moving and stared at the gold in front of him with a silly smile.

"Hey, gold."

The skinny dog who saw everything suddenly felt that sometimes it was not necessary to use words to insult people.

"Almost." Luo Xuanyi didn't notice the complicated look from Shougou. She asked Longyue to try jumping a few times to make sure that she would not shake off the caller. She nodded with satisfaction.

"Let's go. It's already noon, we'd better hurry and get there before nightfall."

The skinny dog withdrew his gaze and lowered his head to sketch on the ground: "I'll go ahead and explore the way to avoid encountering such a situation again."

This is certainly a good thing. Luo Xuanyi agreed immediately, and the group finally headed southeast again.

With a skinny dog leading the way, we avoided many dangers.

The various spirit beasts of the Zhongqu Mountains are incredibly mysterious and elusive. Luo Xuanyi, having run twenty miles, was about to cross a forest when she suddenly saw the sky ahead blaze crimson. A skinny dog turned back to report the Hundred Flame Crimson Butterfly. She immediately changed her route. Soon, she heard the sound of a mountain fire erupting behind her. Looking back, she couldn't even see the Hundred Flame Crimson Butterfly's true form; the entire sky was barely large enough for a single wing.

After another thirty miles, as they were about to cross a valley, two mountain lords suddenly started arguing. From one mountain, a lacquered ox emerged, its body as vibrant as if painted with rock paint, its feet creating a cascade of lava. From the other mountain, a blue-feathered parrot flew out, its feathers dripping like molten water, forming a spring upon the ground.

The two beasts fought fiercely, and the skinny dog was caught in the middle. Luo Xuanyi once again circled the mountain to avoid being involved in the chaos. After an incense stick of time, the skinny dog rushed out of the valley and reunited with Luo Xuanyi. Although he was unharmed, his eyes revealed fatigue.

After a brief rest, they stood up again. Another three miles passed before them, and a massive canyon appeared before them. This canyon wasn't made of rock, but rather the bones of a giant beast. Years of wind, sun, and accumulation of sand had left only a narrow path, two men wide, made of ribs. The beast was too massive to circumvent, so they had to navigate the path.

They advanced for about a hundred miles, and the auras of countless spirit beasts and demonic beasts emanated from every crack, often frightening Long Yue so much that she trembled and stopped. So, they simply didn't attack, and they lived in peace.

When they exited the rib path, the view suddenly opened up, and before them stretched for dozens of miles, gentle slopes and flat lands. It was almost dusk, and Luo Xuanyi looked up, just in time to see the inky black smudge on the horizon.

The mountains were painted like purple ink; even the warm light of dusk cast a shadow on the peaks, without a trace of warmth. In the cold silence, only faint white dots could be seen.

At just one glance, Luo Xuanyi recognized that this was the Dongye Mountain that Yu Du had mentioned.

Although she had walked on the mountain road for a whole day and realized that the visible mountains were not necessarily close, she still felt a burst of excitement.

At least the time and energy spent were not wasted.

She took a few more steps forward, her gaze shifting from the distant mountain peaks to the front, and suddenly she saw a dark streak on the distant ground, about 13 or 4 miles away. From her high vantage point, it didn't seem very wide, but it stretched out at both ends with no end in sight.

With a bad premonition in his heart, Luo Xuanyi ran to the black mark and was speechless.

This wasn't some narrow black mark at all, but a bottomless abyss a mile wide and hundreds of miles long! It was as if someone had pinched the two ends of the Zhongqu Mountains and split the earth like a pancake.

If she could control her Qi and beasts, a mile of land would be a breeze for Luo Xuanyi. But without Qi and beasts, how could she cross this vast abyss without even a single iron chain on foot?

Skinny Dog and Long Yue, who were running over shortly after, also stopped in front of the abyss. Luo Xuanyi ignored them for the moment, instead squatting down and trying to release death energy to explore the bottom of the abyss.

The death energy stretched downwards, reaching only a hundred feet or so before it was suddenly severed, barely able to transmit back a single message of the attack. The death energy was severed by a beam of mirror light that flew from the abyss's wall.

This mirror light looks familiar.

"Woof!"

Luo Xuanyi was just pondering this when she suddenly heard the skinny dog barking. She looked up at it and asked, "What's wrong?"

Seeing that Luo Xuanyi's attention was attracted, the skinny dog pointed at the words it had just written on the ground with its mouth and motioned her to look.

"We can't go down. There's still murderous intent in this chasm."

After finishing reading, Luo Xuanyi suddenly had a strange premonition. She asked tentatively, "Is this huge abyss left behind by Bo Huixiao during his battle?"

The skinny dog stretched out his front paw to erase the words, then wrote: "Yes and no. This was left when you fought Yu Lu and she attacked first to test you."

A test. Luo Xuanyi gazed into the distance, the endless blackness of the earth merging into the dusk of the sky. If this attack could be considered a test, then just how powerful Yu Lu and Bo Huixiao had been back then.

No wonder there was a mirror light hidden under the abyss. Luo Xuanyi recalled what she had seen in ancient times. Those with better cultivation aptitude in the Yu family all used mirrors as weapons. Tracing back to it, it was Yu Lu who used the mirror light to fight the enemy.

The murderous intent left over from ten thousand years ago could also cut off Luo Xuanyi's death energy with a single blow. The plan to bypass the abyss from below was rejected by Luo Xuanyi.

So what about going around from both sides?

"This strike split the Zhongqu Mountains vertically. If we want to go around it from both sides, we can either go to Xuancheng Province or head south to Tianyan Province."

Not to mention how long this round trip took, Luo Xuanyi doubted whether Dongye Mountain would still exist after they came around. Judging from the scene along the way, even if the spirit beast's action was just unintentional, a mountain would be destroyed in an instant.

"We can only cross it," Luo Xuanyi concluded. Skinny Dog, however, shook his head pessimistically.

"To be able to fly in the Zhongqu Mountains, one must have faith in the Heavenly Beast Quan Qian or the Heavenly Beast Du Ying. Otherwise, even I and this five-eyed toad cannot circumvent the laws of the Heavenly Beasts, let alone you, a cultivator."

"What does it mean to believe?" Luo Xuanyi asked immediately. She didn't have any fanatical beliefs to begin with, but if believing in a celestial beast could help her navigate the Zhongqu Mountains, she would believe in it without hesitation.

However, the skinny dog saw through her thoughts and ruthlessly wrote, "Faith must be sincere. The spirit beast clan requires the qualification to worship the celestial beast. Generally, they must send a group of the clan with the most noble qualifications and bloodlines to serve the celestial beast until the celestial beast bestows blood. There is no need to think about monks."

What a shame. Since it couldn't be used, Luo Xuanyi immediately put the matter behind her. She folded her arms and concentrated on thinking, when she suddenly felt the sky around her darken.

The Dongye Mountain in the distance was still shrouded in the bloody dusk, and looking back, the sky was still half-dangling with the red sun.

Only near this abyss, thick gray fog quietly spread.
