Chapter 108 Panic, Threatening Suicide

Chapter 108 Panic, Threatening Suicide

Wu Yang instructed the remaining guards to carefully collect the remains inside, and, worried about his lord's injuries, escorted the carriage back to the Pei residence.

When the old lady heard the news, she swayed and barely managed to steady herself by grabbing the corner of the table. She silently raised her hand and, supported by her maid, entered the Wenxin Pavilion.

The renowned physician, Master Sheng, was sitting on a stool taking Wu Yang's pulse, while his wife waited anxiously beside him, asking in a low voice, "What exactly happened?"

Wu Yang dared not hide anything and hurriedly told them about Ji Niangzi's disappearance, saying that some items had been found, but the person herself had not been found.

"My lord has been searching for Lady Ji day and night without rest, his heart always filled with thoughts of her, but..."

"However, everything looked fine at the foot of the mountain, but when he saw Madam Ji's belongings in the cave, he couldn't take the shock and immediately vomited blood and fainted."

The old lady looked at her eldest son, whose face was now pale, and felt a pang of pain in her heart. Her son had never looked like this before.

Even if he was out leading troops for many years, and even if he was injured, he would be bandaged up in the morning and could continue to handle military affairs in the afternoon without any delay.

As the old matriarch who had held power in Yanzhou for many years, she only showed a slight change in expression before quickly returning to normal.

"If what you say is true, then the fact that Lady Ji's body was not found makes no sense. Even if there were wild beasts around, there would be traces left behind. It's impossible for nothing to be found. How could she just disappear into thin air?"

Madam Pei's gaze was sharp as she looked directly at Wu Yang. "Since you're going to search, turn the entire mountain upside down. If you find nothing, there must be something fishy going on!"

Wu Yang was shocked. That's right, how could he not have thought of that? How could three living people not leave any trace?

It's suspicious if there are no traces!

"I'll take care of it immediately!"

Madam Pei nodded, knowing that they were just confused because they were so concerned. Being caught up in the situation, it was understandable that they couldn't see the key point immediately.

After taking his pulse, Old Master Sheng pondered for a moment, then called over the young apprentice and wrote down the medicine that needed to be decocted.

Seeing this, the old lady asked, "Is there something wrong, Marquis Yan?"

Old Master Sheng stroked his beard and said slowly, "Lord Yan's pulse is steady and strong, and there is nothing else wrong. This time, he was overworked and a little angry, which caused him to vomit out the stagnant blood inside. This actually dispersed the stagnation, so there is nothing serious. He just needs to rest more in the future."

Hearing this, Madam Pei finally breathed a sigh of relief. "When will he wake up?"

"When Lord Yan has had enough sleep, he will wake up on his own. I had my disciple write down a prescription. Take this medicine and he will be fine after nourishing his heart and spleen."

"Alright, then we'll take you in. We've invited you over so late."

"You flatter me, Madam. I am relieved to know that Marquis Yan is well!"

After exchanging a few pleasantries with him, Madam Pei ordered Granny Chang to escort him out.

As night fell, Pei Yanzhi slowly woke up. Looking at the familiar furnishings in the room, he sat up halfway and thought about everything that had happened that afternoon.

A tremendous sense of powerlessness and panic swept over him. He was only wearing his undershirt. He raised his hand to touch his chest, trying to ignore the discomfort, but it just wouldn't go away.

"Someone come here!"

Wu Yang hurriedly pushed open the door and entered, bowing and saying, "My lord!"

Pei Yanzhi said with a displeased expression, "Who gave you permission to send me back? She hasn't even been found yet. What can a piece of cloth the size of a palm prove?"

He threw off the covers and sat up: "It proves nothing. I'm going to find her now. Maybe she's waiting for me somewhere on the mountain right now..."

Wu Yang stared in horror at his lord, whose eyes were bloodshot and whose expression was frantic, fearing that he had fallen into a demonic possession. Just as he was about to speak, Madam Pei, leaning on her cane, stepped through the door and entered.

She had just overheard that her eldest son was going to look for someone again, and she was filled with shock and anger.

Does he even remember his own identity? Let alone whether Lady Ji really had an accident, as the ruler of Yanzhou, he naturally prioritizes the overall situation.

How could he lose his composure like this? If the enemy knew his current state of mind, this would be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of his vulnerability.

She glanced displeasedly at Wu Yang kneeling on the ground, then slammed her cane against the ground.

His voice was unusually calm: "Brother, I have already instructed Lieutenant Lu to go and find her personally."

Pei Yanzhi gazed at his mother, then looked out the window. The room was silent as everyone speculated about what their lord would do next.

After a long silence, he said in a low voice, "My son understands."

After saying that, he waved his hand wearily, "You may all leave. Mother, please go and rest. I just want some peace and quiet."

Seeing his ashen face, Madam Pei knew she shouldn't say anything more. He should understand what he needed to understand, so she led everyone away.

The door closed, Pei Yanzhi pursed his thin lips, still looking out the window, his mind flashing back to the moments he spent with her, everything vivid in his memory.

His knuckles turned white as he gripped the edge of the bed, and the bulging veins on his neck betrayed the turmoil beneath his calm face.

He even wondered if she hadn't actually died, but had simply used the opportunity to escape him and get far away.

She just wanted to get revenge on him, to get revenge for the misfortune he had brought her. For the past few months, he had been forcing himself on her, and he hadn't even asked her if she was willing or not.

Is it because she couldn't bear it that she chose such a drastic way to make him unable to find her, by simply imposing her own ideas on her?

Night fell, and the Wei residence was completely silent.

Wei Ziming returned from the restaurant completely drunk, and Geng Er's heart finally settled down after finding the key in the bushes.

Upstairs in the attic, Ji Shu was already dozing off when she heard the sound of tables and chairs clattering downstairs. Her heart tightened, and she immediately sat up.

Her high fever from the day had subsided by the afternoon, and her face was as pale as paper, except for her clear eyes.

With a loud bang, the door was flung open.

Wei Ziming, his face flushed, staggered in through the door, completely unlike his previous gentlemanly demeanor. He immediately spotted Ji Shu sitting on the edge of the bed, her eyes fixed on him.

He stared at her intently, unable to speak coherently.

The person he had been longing for for the past few months was right in front of him; nothing could make his blood boil more.

Thinking of the things that had already been taken care of, he went upstairs under the influence of alcohol, determined to get what he wanted tonight.

As her heart moved, Ji Shu hurriedly tried to dodge, but Wei Ziming grabbed her sleeve with such force that he tore off her clothes, revealing her fair and smooth shoulders.

Ji Shu felt a pang of panic. She forced herself to suppress the nausea rising in her heart. If she were to be defiled by this man tonight, then why should she live in this world?

Seeing that the window was open, she climbed onto the windowsill without hesitation, which startled Wei Ziming and made him sober up considerably.

"If you take another step forward, I'll jump off here!" she said urgently.
