Chapter 181 What a beautiful scene of maternal love and filial piety!
The little one was sleeping soundly on the bed. Pei Yanzhi reached out and gently stroked their similar eyebrows and eyes with his fingertips. He felt both joy and unbearable sorrow in his heart.
Pei Qinghe was awakened by the itching on his face and groggily opened his eyes.
Seeing that it was her father returning, she rubbed her sleepy eyes, her voice still groggy: "Father, you're back after you finished your work?"
Pei Yanzhi gave a soft "hmm" and picked him up from the quilt. Pei Qinghe turned his head and looked around the room.
Seeing that the person was not there, he must have already left.
Suddenly feeling an emptiness in her chest, she looked up and asked Granny Fu, "When did the doctor leave?"
Granny Fu glanced at His Majesty cautiously and replied respectfully, "You had only been asleep for a short while when the doctor took his leave."
Pei Qinghe's chubby little face drooped down in a comical way, and Pei Yanzhi's expression tightened slightly when he saw him like this.
His tone held a hint of ambiguity: "You really liked the doctor who treated you today?"
Pei Qinghe nodded immediately, and couldn't help but say a few more words: "She is the beautiful lady we met at the restaurant that day, who even escorted me all the way back."
"I was so happy to see her today, but unfortunately I was not feeling well and couldn't let her play with me. Otherwise, Father, you could have met her too."
The child's eyes shone brightly as he spoke, revealing an undisguised affection for that person. Pei Yanzhi closed his eyes briefly.
He was unaware that the two of them had met before.
Unaware of his presence, he felt a pang of bitterness and sorrow in his heart. Did she know that the child before him was the one she had carried for ten months?
He then sneered inwardly. So what if she knew?
If such a cold-hearted and aloof person really found out, he would probably just stay even further away.
He gathered his thoughts, looked at the boy's rosy cheeks from sleeping, instructed Granny Fu to pour him a glass of water, fed him the water, and then asked gently, "Is there anything else that's bothering you?"
Pei Qinghe shook his head.
For some reason, she asked him again with eager eyes, "Father, may I go and play with that older sister?"
Seeing his father suddenly look at him, he quickly raised his little hand and promised, "I promise, I will be a good boy."
Pei Yanzhi remained silent for a long time, his eyes flickering with light, before finally letting out a barely audible "hmm" to indicate his agreement.
The next day, after breakfast, Pei Qinghe immediately urged people to prepare a carriage, as he was going to Guangmin Hall to find someone.
He was puzzled to see his father still sitting in his chair eating breakfast.
Even in the palace, the father and son rarely dined together.
This was especially true when they arrived in Ganzhou, but today was different, so he couldn't help but ask, "Father, are you not going out today?"
Seeing that he jumped off the stool impatiently and looked flustered, Pei Yanzhi said, "I have nothing to do today, I'll take you there."
Wu Yang, who was standing to the side, secretly glanced at the lord and the young master. After all, the young master was young and looked puzzled.
But he didn't ask any more questions, assuming that his father was worried about his safety. He just urged his father to finish it quickly, and he had no idea what his father was thinking.
That day, Ji Shu went to the shop to see patients and get medicine, just like she always did.
After a while, I inevitably got a sore neck and back, so I got up and moved around at the door for a while.
Just as they stood still, a black carriage slowly came to a stop. The carriage was entirely black, without any extra patterns.
The three horses pulling the carriage were extraordinary; their manes were tall, and they strode with their heads held high, making it clear at a glance that this carriage was no ordinary horse-drawn carriage.
Ji Shu merely glanced at it indifferently and continued stretching her muscles, when she saw the carriage curtain lifted and a child step down from it.
The child spotted Ji Shu at the doorway immediately, beamed, and shouted, "Pretty sister!"
Her figure was bright and clear, and her bright, clear eyes curved with joy as she waved her hand excitedly at her.
Ji Shu was slightly taken aback, not expecting to run into him here. She took a few steps forward, bent down, and asked in a low voice, "What brings you here? Are you feeling alright?"
Pei Qinghe was overjoyed to see her and didn't know what to do. Seeing how concerned she was about him, he comforted her, "I'm all better now, look."
As he spoke, he even jumped up and down a couple of times to prove that he was perfectly fine.
Ji Shu couldn't help but smile.
Just as she opened her mouth, a loud "clang" suddenly came from inside the carriage, as if someone had spilled their tea.
Ji Shu looked over upon hearing the sound and saw a gentle breeze sweep by, lifting a corner of the carriage curtain, through which a man could be vaguely seen sitting.
A pair of dark black boots with cloud patterns and subtle gold thread embroidery, but soon, the wind blew the curtain down, and the inside could no longer be seen.
For some reason, Ji Shu felt a sudden unease. She looked away and asked the little boy, who was only up to her legs.
"So you've come to see me today..."
Seeing this, Pei Qinghe pouted and said aggrievedly, "You left yesterday without saying a word to me. I looked for you everywhere after I woke up. But we're going to stay in Ganzhou for a while, so I came here specifically to visit you."
Seeing Ji Shu's stunned expression, she assumed that Ji Shu was unwilling, and her eyes immediately reddened as she asked, "Sister, are you unwilling?"
Seeing that he was about to shed tears, Ji Shu immediately said, "How could that be? I'm happy that you came to visit me, but I still have patients to see today. So, you can wait for me obediently inside, okay?"
Pei Qinghe nodded quickly. Just as Ji Shu was about to take his little hand and go inside, she suddenly remembered the person sitting inside the carriage.
He lowered his voice and asked, "Aren't you going to tell the people in the carriage?"
Ji Shu didn't know who was sitting inside, but considering that the child was brought over by the person inside, who was probably the butler or someone similar, it would be better to tell them.
But then Pei Qinghe called out loudly into the room, "Father, I'm going to play with my pretty sister. Come pick me up later!"
Ji Shu froze, and after a moment of silence in the carriage, a soft "Hmm" was heard.
Immediately, the person inside tapped lightly on the carriage wall, and the upright coachman immediately drove the carriage away slowly.
Ji Shu was stunned for a while, watching the carriage gradually disappear into the distance, before looking down at the child who was watching her, feeling a little strange in her heart.
But I couldn't quite put my finger on what was strange about it.
She took his hand and stepped into Guangmin Hall.
After they went inside, the carriage quietly stopped not far away. Only then did Pei Yanzhi lift the curtain and look in the direction of Guangmin Hall.
It was still that familiar face; four years had passed in the blink of an eye, and he seemed to have lost some weight.
He stared blankly for a long time. From his angle, it was clear at a glance that he was watching her prepare the medicine and write the prescription.
Qinghe sat obediently on the stool, looking up at the screen, occasionally asking questions.
She always replied to him gently, and when she saw that he seemed to be able to write a few words, she would smile and praise him, probably saying that he was very capable.
This made the mischievous child smile smugly. If someone else were to look over, they would surely praise the mother for her loving mother and filial son.
After a long while, Pei Yanzhi slowly lowered his eyes.
He whispered, "Let's go!"
