Chapter 212 The Dust Settles

Chapter 212 The Dust Settles

Chunzhi said that her mother felt the bed was too small, so she went back to her own room to sleep.

But he wasn't stupid; it wasn't like that at all. It wasn't the first time his mother had slept with him, so why would she complain that the bed was too small?

Looking at his father's face, he shouted, "Father, you're lying! Have you hidden Mother away?"

The father and son were arguing so loudly outside the door that even a sound sleeper would be woken up by them. Ji Shu slowly opened her eyes.

After getting dressed, they opened the door. The father and son stared at each other, each looking defiant.

Ji Shu was so angry she laughed. If she hadn't met this father and son, she would have been living a much happier life in Ganzhou. But she had to run into these two nemesis.

She sighed softly and looked at Qinghe first, asking, "What's wrong? Are you hungry?"

Seeing his mother's weak and listless appearance, Pei Qinghe thought she was sick and immediately asked, "Mother, are you feeling unwell?"

As he spoke, he touched Ji Shu's forehead with his little hand, just like an adult.

Ji Shu smiled and said softly, "I'm fine. Why don't you go to the front hall and wait for your mother? I'll just say a few words to your father and then come over."

Qinghe glanced cautiously at her father and saw that his dark eyes were fixed on her mother, and he didn't seem to think that his behavior just now was too much.

Feeling even more aggrieved, she stomped her foot and ran away, calling out "Sister Chunzhi" all the way.

Ji Shu glared at Pei Yanzhi before turning and walking into the house. Pei Yanzhi pretended to follow her.

Once inside, Ji Shu combed her hair, her tone reproachful, "Qinghe is still young, how could you treat him like this? Did you and your father interact like this back in the palace?"

Of course not. Back then, he only felt that Qinghe was the only treasure in the world, so he was naturally careful in everything he did. But now this kid has become his rival for a woman.

Of course, he could never say these words to her; he felt ashamed.

Thinking of what had happened that morning, he leaned close to Ji Shu's back, gently massaging her shoulders, and asked in a low voice, "Do you still feel uncomfortable?"

"If you don't want to go out, you can have the servants bring your food in?"

Ji Shu closed her eyes and leaned back for a moment, feeling that being served by him like this was quite nice.

But thinking of the boy's appearance just now, she shook her head: "Never mind, let's have dinner together."

"Alright, you all have your meal first, I'll go to my study."

Ji Shu knew that he had been busy dealing with the affairs of the King of Qin these days. Thinking of his earlier words that everything would be over after today, she felt a slight unease and only said: "I just hope there are no accidents."

As soon as Pei Yanzhi entered the study, Wu Yang immediately stepped forward and said, "Last night, the King of Qin somehow got wind of our people lying in wait for him, but he did not show up."

"Where is the Princess Consort of Qin?"

"They've been brought under control by our people."

"Keep a close watch on the entire Ganzhou, so that not even a fly can escape. Since he wants to continue hiding, then I will play along with him."

Wu Yang's expression hardened, and he withdrew in response.

In the following days, the entire Ganzhou was brought under control, although the King of Qin did not have many people on the surface.

But there are still many lurking enemies in the shadows, and to eradicate them completely, we can only wait for them to emerge one by one.

Ji Shu had been staying in the mansion for the past two days and had not gone out. It was three quarters past noon when the sun began to move.

Until he bumped into Wu Yang, who looked flustered.

"What happened?"

Wu Yang said respectfully, "Madam, the Prince of Qin has appeared, but His Majesty has already made arrangements. You and the young master must not leave the mansion."

Where is His Majesty?

"His Majesty is at the city gate."

Ji Shu nodded and looked out of the corridor, not turning around to accompany Qinghe. She felt uneasy and restless.

She didn't want Pei Yanzhi to get into trouble. The Prince of Qin had been based in Ganzhou for a long time, and who knew how many dirty tricks he was secretly plotting.

Qinghe was still here, and she prayed silently that nothing would happen to him.

At the gate of Ganzhou City, Pei Yanzhi sat high on his horse. A general stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty, I saw the Prince of Qin's men appear at the west gate. They must know that if they don't find a way to get out of the city now, it will become increasingly difficult later."

Pei Yanzhi's expression was cold and stern. "He wants to escape? Can he escape? He's courting death."

"Pass down the order: capture him alive."

"yes!"

Ji Shu played with Qinghe until he was sleepy, and after putting him on the bed, she heard a sound coming from the doorway.

Ji Shu trembled as she saw Pei Yanzhi appear.

Unable to resist, Pei Yan stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. A ruthless glint flashed in his eyes, but he calmed down after smelling her fragrance.

With a slightly weary expression, Ji Shu asked softly, "Is the King of Qin dead?"

Pei Yanzhi tidied her messy hair and said, "It's all over."

Ji Shu could still feel the intense killing intent emanating from him, which had not yet subsided. She gently cupped his cheeks in her hands and softly comforted him, "Yes, it's all over!"

Pei Yanzhi pressed her down on the table and kissed her fiercely, swirling the fragrant leaves in his mouth.

For a moment, Ji Shu felt as if he was about to devour her alive.

Fortunately, he stopped after a short while.

He smoothed out the wrinkles on her dress and picked her up horizontally.

He walked towards his own yard.

He kicked open the courtyard gate, and just when Ji Shu thought he was about to do something again, he simply put her on the bed.

He unbuckled his belt, lay down, pulled her tightly into his arms, and closed his eyes to fall asleep.

Seeing the dark circles under his eyes, Ji Shu guessed that he had probably not slept all night, and a feeling of tenderness and pity welled up in her heart.

Hearing his steady heartbeat, I knew he had fallen into a deep sleep.

Seeing this, she tried to get up and leave, but as soon as she moved her waist, the large hand around her waist suddenly tightened, and a low, husky voice said, "Sleep with me for a while."

After saying that, there was no more sound.

Ji Shu paused for a moment, her eyes fixed on the patterns on his undergarments, and gradually, she drifted off to sleep.

I slept soundly until nightfall, and when I opened my eyes again, candles were already lit in the room.

Ji Shu was slightly stunned. Turning her head, she saw that he still had his eyes closed and his arm was still on her waist, as if he was afraid that she would run away.

Even in his sleep, his brows remained furrowed. Thinking that he was still busy with official duties even after arriving in Ganzhou, he must have been even busier since returning to Luoyang.

Ji Shu sat up slightly, took his wrist, and carefully took his pulse.

The more carefully they examined him, the more they realized just how bad his health had become.

If I don't take good care of myself like this, my body will probably deteriorate rapidly after I turn forty.

There's no time to lose; we must drag him to the old man's place tomorrow morning so he can get a proper check-up.

Pei Yanzhi sensed something was wrong and slowly opened his eyes. He glanced up and saw Ji Shu looking at him with displeasure.

"You should come with me to see the old man tomorrow morning. I'm not quite sure about your pulse, so let him take a good look at you."

His tone left no room for argument.
