Chapter 58 Letter

Chapter 58 Letter

Pei Yanzhi didn't take it seriously: "Kangzhou is not Yanzhou after all, and now is not the time to directly turn against the imperial court."

Ji Shu looked at him with a serious expression: "But as you can see, the people of Kangzhou can't afford to eat. If we can save them, that would be a great deed."

Upon hearing this, Pei Yanzhi looked at her with amusement. Could it be that in his eyes she had become a benevolent person who did good deeds and saved everyone?

He picked up the teacup, took a sip, and remained silent. Seeing his expression, Ji Shu knew she couldn't reason with him and felt inexplicably discouraged.

Back at the inn, Ji Shu walked forward without saying a word until she caught sight of Lian'er standing far behind Lu Changming.

He paused slightly, then asked, "What does Your Lordship intend to do with that woman?"

She really didn't want someone with ulterior motives following her around all day, so Pei Yanzhi just glanced at her indifferently.

"Just find some excuse to kill her. She's just a woman. Does Song Zhaonian think he can catch me in some way?"

Ji Shu frowned, this was the difference between the two of them, one of them only wanted to solve all problems with force all day long.

Her tone was slightly somber: "What do you mean by 'just a woman'? It's not right for her to be fighting and killing all the time. I'll handle this matter."

Ji Shu thought that in Kangzhou, given Song Zhaonian's status, it would be awkward if his adopted daughter were to have an accident at the post station. However, once they arrived in Yanzhou, Pei Yanzhi would have no say in how to handle the situation.

Pei Yanzhi walked along, glancing at her slender back. He raised an eyebrow, then chuckled and said nothing more.

When Chunzhi saw the young woman return, she tidied the bed and helped her to bed. At the same time, she also saw the beautiful woman outside.

He asked in a low voice, "Young lady, what are the arrangements for that woman tonight?"

Ji Shu pondered for a moment and said, "That woman is the adopted daughter of the governor of Kangzhou. Since we are here, let's arrange a better room for her, after all, we are still in Kangzhou territory."

Chunzhi understood, went out and whispered a few instructions before returning.

After taking a bath, Ji Shu lay on the bed, staring at the auspicious gauze curtains above her head. Recalling everything that had happened that night, she knew that Pei Yanzhi was most likely not coming, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

After a long time, Ji Shu slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep.

I slept without any dreams.

The next morning, Lian'er waited at the door early in the morning, wanting to come in and serve Ji Shu.

But Chunzhi stopped her, saying that the young lady was still asleep and did not need her service.

Lian'er stubbornly waited for an unknown amount of time before she heard Chunzhi being summoned from inside the house. Her eyes lit up, and she followed him inside.

Ji Shu, still half-asleep, looked at Lian'er behind Chunzhi and asked with interest, "Lian'er, did you sleep well last night?"

Lian'er suddenly came to her senses. Although it wasn't the first time she had seen this Lady Shu, she was still dazzled by her beautiful face.

She lowered her eyes and quickly replied, "Thank you for your care, Madam Shu. I rested very well last night."

Ji Shu took the handkerchief Chunzhi handed her, wiped her face, and sighed comfortably, "Hmm, that's good. I haven't asked where Lady Lian is from yet?"

Lian'er: "I grew up in Kang County since I was a child."

Ji Shu looked at the woman in the bronze mirror who looked like she was facing a formidable enemy, and smiled: "Then you are a year older than me, so there is no need to be so nervous. Now that you are mine, there is no need to be so afraid of me."

Lian'er barely slept all night, her mind filled with worry for her parents' safety and anxiety about their future situation.

Seeing Ji Shu's gentle expression, Lian'er breathed a sigh of relief. In fact, she had lied; she had grown up in Hanzhong since childhood.

Empress Dowager Song specifically trained these beautiful women to exchange for benefits.

Only when Ji Shu looked at her with such a gentle and comforting gaze did her anxious heart finally find some peace.

She even felt that this Lady Shu not only did not intend to make things difficult, but also revealed a degree of genuine kindness.

"Let me do your hair and makeup, madam. I know several popular styles in Hanzhong. Madam, do you like them?"

As she spoke, she got up and walked behind Ji Shu, picking up the pearl powder from the dressing case.

Chunzhi wanted to say something, but Ji Shu shook her head to stop her. She then took a few steps back and gave her seat to Lian'er.

"Madam is so beautiful. I have never seen a more beautiful woman than you when I was in Hanzhong. Your eyebrows and eyes are truly exquisite!"

Lian'er leaned closer to the bronze mirror and whispered to Ji Shu in the mirror, "Your eyebrows are naturally dark without any makeup; they would be extremely beautiful with just a little embellishment."

When Pei Yanzhi entered the room and found it silent, he frowned slightly and walked in. He saw Lian'er, dressed in a light green dress, close to Ji Shu's face, doing something.

Pei Yanzhi glared at him angrily: "What are you doing!"

Startled, Lian'er's brush trembled, almost drawing a line out of bounds. Both of them were greatly frightened.

She hurriedly stood up, forcing herself to remain calm, and curtsied to Pei Yanzhi, her voice trembling as she said, "This servant greets Marquis Yan!"

After seeing their actions clearly, Pei Yanzhi's expression softened slightly, but his tone carried an undeniable pressure: "If you're getting ready, then get ready. Why are you getting so close?"

Ji Shu glanced at him sideways and slowly said, "I just wanted to try out the makeup from Hanzhong. Why are you making such a fuss, my lord!"

Lian'er glanced at Pei Yanzhi and secretly felt a chill when she saw Ji Shu speaking to Yan Hou like that. She noticed that Yan Hou did not seem angry and even seemed to be coaxing her.

He glanced at Lian'er standing to the side and said, "If you want to change your makeup, why don't you tell me and I'll find you some people who know how to do makeup."

It's almost as if they're saying, why keep such a treacherous person around? Aren't they afraid he might poison them?

Ji Shu ignored her and continued to have Lian'er help her with her makeup. Pei Yanzhi saw that she was a little angry, so he awkwardly touched his nose and paced around the room a few times.

Finally, he sat down in a round-backed chair, drinking tea while his gaze remained fixed on Lian'er.

What was supposed to be a relaxed makeup application suddenly turned into a precarious situation, making Lian'er tremble with fear, lest she make a mistake and be dragged away and killed by the Marquis of Yan.

Finally, apply lip rouge to the lips, and instantly they will look gorgeous and luscious.

Looking at herself in the mirror, so beautiful she seemed otherworldly, Ji Shu said, "This is fine, no need to be too flamboyant."

Lian'er took one last look at the beauty in the glasses, then inserted a jeweled butterfly hairpin diagonally into her hair bun before taking a half step back.

Ji Shu straightened her sleeves and turned around, only to see Pei Yanzhi sitting in a round-backed chair, calmly drinking tea.

As Ji Shu approached, he raised his eyes and took a closer look at her completely different makeup today. Just by standing there, she filled the room with light without even realizing it.

As he approached, a fragrant breeze wafted over him. Pei Yanzhi put down his teacup and said, "You may all leave now. I have something to say to my wife."

Lian'er glanced at Ji Shu, then left. As soon as the door closed, Pei Yanzhi pulled her onto his lap.

"What's gotten into you today? Why are you in such a good mood?" he asked in a low voice, his breath close to his.

Ji Shu looked at the man who was about to fall towards her, clenched her fists and pressed them against his chest. Everyone knew that he had just come in, and she didn't want to do anything reckless in broad daylight.

He abruptly changed the subject, "I just wanted to change my makeup... What is this?"

Her gaze fell on the letter that had suddenly appeared on the table.
