Chapter 79 Sophistry

Chapter 79 Sophistry

He admitted that initially, his own inherent flaws played a role in arranging for her to stay there.

He wanted to show the Gu family what was going on back then, and how he was now presenting these precious things to Ji Shu.

The bastard child you gave birth to was thrown into a mass grave long ago, and its remains have long since vanished. He is determined to wash away this shame.

Ji Shu was naturally unaware of these things, and he couldn't possibly tell her.

Now, facing such a fickle woman, what is it that he can't bear to part with? He slowly closed his fingers, watching her struggle in his hand.

Her petal-like lips opened uncomfortably as she stopped breathing.

He knew that killing her would be incredibly easy, and would only benefit him, Xing Jian, and himself.

But in the end, he still let go.

Ji Shu lay violently on the edge of the bed, coughing intensely, with a shocking red mark on her neck.

Ji Shu slowly raised her head to look at him, meeting his gaze: "Even if you strangle me... I will still leave..." After saying that, she coughed violently again.

Pei Yanzhi looked down at her coldly and called out towards the door, "Someone come here!"

Wu Yang pushed open the door and entered. Upon seeing the scene inside, he was greatly shocked. In the past few months, everyone knew what Lady Ji meant to their lord.

Just when they thought that Lady Ji was very likely to be taken into the harem by the lord, things have turned out like this.

"From this day forward, without my order, no one may step out of Shanshui Residence!"

Wu Yang bowed deeply: "Yes, my lord!"

Then, he glanced at Ji Shu on the ground, flicked his sleeves, and left.

Wu Yang closed the door and sighed softly.

After Pei Yanzhi stepped out of the room expressionlessly, Chunzhi and Lian'er exchanged glances and wanted to go in, but Wu Yang stopped them at the door.

"Ladies, the lord has said that no one is allowed to enter without orders, and no one is allowed to leave Shanshui Residence."

Chunzhi exclaimed in disbelief, "What?"

Lian'er hurriedly stepped forward and said kindly, "Captain Wu, what if something happens to the young lady all alone inside? I believe that Lord Jun would not want anything to happen to her."

After saying this, her eyes reddened slightly: "The young lady is still sick. What will happen if no one takes care of her?"

Wu Yang scratched his head. He didn't know what had happened either, but he had never seen his lord lose his temper like this before.

But since the two maids were so loyal, he could only whisper, "I'll ask them when the master's anger has subsided."

Chunzhi quickly replied, "Thank you very much, Captain Wu!"

On the other side of the Pei residence.

After leaving Tingshuizhai, Pei Song went straight to Yulan Pavilion.

Madam Song had just finished her afternoon nap and was applying makeup in front of the mirror when she asked the maid behind her, "Did you see that Lady Ji today? I noticed that her makeup was very light, which was quite unique. Why don't you try applying makeup like that for me?"

Looking at Song Yunshu's somewhat sallow complexion in the mirror, the maid didn't dare to say anything. That Lady Ji was obviously naturally beautiful; not only her face, but even her exposed hands and neck were crystal clear, without the slightest blemish.

There was no trace of makeup on her face.

But he dared not say this casually. Just then, Miaoyin rushed in from outside.

Madam Song merely glanced at him indifferently, "Where did you go in such a panic?"

Miaoyin stammered as she answered, "This servant didn't go anywhere. I just had a stomachache and went to the outhouse."

Mrs. Song curled her lip in disgust. "Just looking at you annoys me. Get out of the house and get out of my sight!"

"Yes, madam."

The sun was about to set. Madam Song picked up a round fan and shook it, frowning as she said, "It's so hot. Hasn't the old lady said when we'll start using the ice chest?"

"Not yet, the old lady said she'll have to wait until the hottest days of summer!"

Before he could finish speaking, Pei Song walked in from outside, staring at Song Shi with an ugly expression.

Madam Song's smile faltered for a moment, then she smiled again and asked softly, "Why did you think of my courtyard today, my husband? Would you like to stay for dinner?"

Pei Song pulled her arm away from his, stared at her for a long while, and suddenly asked, "Where did you go after lunch today?"

Madam Song touched her cheek and said sweetly, "I didn't go anywhere, I just took a walk in the garden to digest my food!"

Pei Song narrowed his eyes slightly and questioned, "You didn't run into anyone?"

Song pretended to think for a moment and realized that Pei Song had probably heard something from someone else.

Then he pretended to speak: "Oh, you mean this? I did run into Madam Ji, but we only exchanged a few words. For some reason, she suddenly fainted, which gave me quite a fright."

She picked up a round fan and shook it, then sighed, "That Lady Ji is far too frail! She fainted just like that; anyone who didn't know better would think I said something!"

Pei Song's eyes turned cold. He knew Song Yunshu's personality; she was deep and calculating, and he could only believe half of what she said.

He knew there was no smoke without fire, otherwise his elder brother wouldn't have come to question him. But he was also clear that if anyone disrespected the people around his elder brother, Pei Song would never tolerate it.

Thinking of this, he said coldly, "If what you say is true, then Madam Ji fainted on her own and has nothing to do with you?"

Madam Song paused, her hand holding the round fan still. "Of course, what does my husband mean by this? Do you doubt me?"

Pei Song's face darkened, and he gritted his teeth and growled, "Even now, you still won't tell the truth!"

"Do you really need your older brother to get to the bottom of this before you'll tell me, huh?"

“Song, Song, I’ve been lenient with you for your little tricks, but now you’ve even tried to outsmart your elder brother.”

"Or do you think that even if your elder brother finds out, he won't do anything to you, his second wife?"

Song Yunshu was startled by his angry shout, and instead looked at him innocently, "This concubine... doesn't understand what you're saying? If my husband doesn't wish to stay for the meal, then this concubine will not stay any longer."

Pei Song looked at her with disappointment. He had thought that since he had exposed these things, she would at least consider his reputation as her husband and take the initiative to apologize. He thought that his older brother was not an unreasonable person.

Why would they make things difficult for her, their younger brother's wife, over this? Who knew—

"You... better watch yourself!" With that, he turned and left.

Song Yunshu slumped into the chair, her body limp. She had only said a few words casually, but who knew Ji Shu would react so strongly? Could she be blamed for that?

She twisted the handkerchief in her hand fiercely. Would Pei Yanzhi really make things difficult for her because of a woman who had no status or title?

She doesn't believe it!
