"Nonsense!"
Xinghui retorted sharply, her voice filled with resentment and urgency.
Before she could say anything more, she immediately reached out to take Shen Jintang's pulse.
However, when she gently placed her fingers on Shen Jintang's pulse, her expression instantly turned ugly, and a hint of panic flashed in her originally bright eyes.
Shen Huaixu already had a bad feeling, and seeing Xing Hui's reaction confirmed that feeling.
"Servant!"
He slid his wheelchair around, quickly turned and headed outside, his voice as cold as if it came from an ice cellar: "Isolate this place. No one is allowed to enter or leave without my order!"
"master?"
Shi Shu was still confused and didn't know what had happened. She simply released her grip on Liu Huo and quickly walked to Shen Huaixu's side, waiting for his further instructions.
Xinghui ran out of the house and winked at Liuhuo.
Liu Huo understood immediately and turned to leave quietly.
After Liu Huo's figure disappeared, Xing Hui loudly questioned Shen Huai Xu, "What right do you have to do this?"
Shen Huaixu slowly turned around, his eyes as cold as frost, as if they could freeze people.
Xinghui was not afraid of him at all, and said word by word, "You have no right to do so. My master is here to provide disaster relief on the orders of the Eldest Princess and is directly under her jurisdiction. You have no right to imprison my master."
Shen Huaixu was silent for a moment, then lowered his voice, which, though low, carried an undeniable authority: "She has a plague."
“I will immediately call a doctor to treat her. If I have misdiagnosed her, I will take full responsibility. But if she has truly contracted the plague, then I absolutely cannot…”
His tone carried a hint of helplessness, as if this was a choice he had no choice but to make.
"It's none of your business!" Xing Hui retorted without backing down, saying each word clearly, "I will take my master away. I'm here to treat my master's illness; it's none of your concern!"
"Don't even think about it!" Shen Huaixu looked at Xing Hui with an exceptionally cold gaze and said in an unquestionable tone, "She can't go anywhere before she's diagnosed."
"you!"
Xing Hui's eyes widened in anger, extremely dissatisfied with Shen Huaixu's behavior.
"Guards, take General Xing back to prison," Shen Huaixu ordered his servants.
People who are sick and those who are not must be separated; this is the most basic preventative measure.
Immediately, someone came up and tried to pull Xinghui away, but Xinghui pushed them away forcefully, her eyes filled with anxiety and resentment: "No! No one can leave Master's side now. I know Master best, so at least I should stay by Master's side."
"I don't need you. There are doctors here, and I will have someone administer the medicine to her." Shen Huaixu's tone was cold.
“Those medicines are completely useless!” Xinghui practically shouted.
Having followed her master since childhood, she knew Shen Jintang's constitution. How could ordinary medicine possibly be effective?
If we let ordinary doctors treat our master with ordinary medicines, isn't that just letting our master fend for himself?
"It works for everyone, so why didn't it work for her?"
Shen Huaixu stared intently at Xing Hui, as if trying to see the truth in her eyes.
"You..." Xinghui hesitated, her fists clenched so tightly that her nails almost dug into her palms, but she could not reveal anything about Shen Jintang without permission.
If this matter were to fall into the wrong hands, it could cause our master a great deal of trouble.
"Take him away!"
Shen Huaixu gave Xing Hui no chance to resist or argue, and directly gave orders to the attendants.
The attendants immediately stepped forward and locked Xing Hui up.
The surroundings quieted down, and Shen Huaixu slowly turned his head to look into the room, feeling a mix of emotions he couldn't quite describe.
If he hadn't been injured, he would have been the one to go to the west of the city to treat the plague, and he would be the one who is now sick.
The sun shone warmly down, the best sunlight of the time, but Shen Huaixu felt no warmth at all when it shone on him.
"My lord, the officials are already waiting in the council chamber."
After waiting for a long time without seeing Shen Huaixu make any move, Shi Shu had no choice but to step forward and remind him.
Hearing Shi Shu's voice, Shen Huaixu came back to his senses and said, "Let's go."
Shi Shu walked around behind Shen Huaixu and pushed the wheelchair toward the council hall.
The governor of Sizhou did indeed keep his promise and sent over the agreed-upon people and medicine.
However, the officials in Yanzhou still harbored their own agendas, maintaining a facade of harmony while harboring resentment. They seized every opportunity to trip up Shen Huaixu, but he managed to resolve all of them.
"Lord Shen, where is Lord Siyan now?"
As the meeting drew to a close, someone suddenly mentioned Shen Jintang.
Shen Huaixu frowned, sensing that something was amiss.
These officials are all terrified of Shen Jintang and always avoid her. Why would they specifically mention her today?
Could it be that they've learned some news?
Shen Huaixu's gaze swept across the council hall. The officials who were usually perfunctory and irresponsible now looked terrified, their eyes filled with tension.
He had a vague idea of what was going on, but he didn't show it. He just smiled and said, "I've been too busy these days, so I gave her a day off today. She's still resting."
Shen Huaixu tried to fool them, but some people weren't buying it.
"Is she resting, or has she contracted an epidemic and is she afraid to come out and meet people?" A slightly overweight official was the first to stand up, his words full of sarcasm.
Upon hearing this, Shen Huaixu's expression darkened slightly, and his gaze towards the man turned as cold as ice.
He only learned about Shen Jintang's high fever this morning, less than two hours ago. How did they find out?
