Chapter 171 Substitute Bride

Linxian County, Qijia.

"Don't move."

Shen Jintang held a blue-black eyebrow pencil between her fingertips, gently lifted Gu Zhixing's chin, and drew his eyebrows.

The bronze mirror reflected the two figures, one focused, the other helpless.

Gu Zhixing has an exceptionally beautiful face, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, and a well-defined profile. With just a slight change in his heroic spirit and the addition of some softness, he would look exactly like a bride.

Gu Zhixing frowned slightly, looking at Shen Jintang who was so close to him, his emotions quite complex.

How could a grown man like him have to dress up as a bride?

"Your face is absolutely gorgeous. If I were a man, I would want to marry you."

Shen Jintang examined it for a moment, a slight smile playing on his lips, half in jest and half in admiration.

Unexpectedly, these words touched a nerve with Gu Zhixing, who suddenly reached out, pulled the person onto his lap, and lowered his head to kiss him.

Shen Jintang reacted quickly, pressing her fingertips against his lips and gently scolding, "Don't move. The lip rouge you just applied is hard to fix if it gets smudged."

Gu Zhixing's gaze darkened slightly as he stared at her and asked, "When did you learn to do makeup for others?"

Shen Jintang's hands didn't stop moving as she casually replied, "In the past, it was more convenient to dress as a man when traveling. It was common to change one's appearance, and over time, one learned to do it."

"Disguised?" Gu Zhixing narrowed his eyes sharply. "You're a woman disguised as a man, but how could you change from a man to a woman?"

Shen Jintang paused, her thoughts drifting away.

Change to women's makeup...

That person was extremely picky, had many rules, and was particular about everything.

He not only forced her to learn music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, but also required her to be proficient in women's dressing and grooming.

Let alone changing women's makeup, she could even be a makeup artist herself.

However, recounting these experiences would inevitably invite ridicule.

Shen Jintang lowered her eyes slightly, trying to cover the strange emotion that flashed across her eyes with her long eyelashes. She coughed lightly, her voice carrying a hint of feigned cheerfulness: "I learned a little bit when I was young and fooling around."

She felt from the bottom of her heart that if Gu Zhixing knew that someone had once forced her to draw her arched eyebrows and apply rouge to her lips, he would laugh so hard he would be doubled over. She could practically picture him like that.

Gu Zhixing had a sharp eye; he immediately noticed the hesitation in Shen Jintang's expression.

Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and her eyes flickered, clearly concealing something.

His eyes suddenly darkened, and a nameless fire surged up from the bottom of his heart. Before she could react, he lowered his head and bit her lips hard.

Shen Jintang felt a sharp pain, and a slightly metallic taste filled her mouth.

She instinctively tried to back away, but he held her tightly around the waist, preventing her from moving.

She struggled to call out his name: "Gu Zhixing!"

Finally free, she gently pressed her fingertips against the wound on her lip, frowned and glared at him, only to see him turn his face away, his jaw taut, his thin lips pressed into a straight line, looking like a sulking child.

"You were the one who bit me, why are you so angry?"

Looking at his expression, Shen Jintang felt both amused and annoyed. She gently cupped his face in her hands and forced him to turn his face towards her.

“Your Highness,” she gently tapped his taut lips with her fingertip, “what’s wrong with you?”

The drop of blood on her lips looked particularly bright and glaring under the light. Gu Zhixing's eyes darkened, and he suddenly reached out and grabbed the back of her head, leaning down to suck the drop of blood into his mouth.

The warm tip of his tongue gently swept across the wound, bringing a slight shiver, as if an electric current was spreading from his lips and teeth throughout his body, making Shen Jintang's heart skip a beat.

Shen Jintang's ears suddenly burned, like maple leaves ignited by flames. She hurriedly pushed him away, her lips trembling slightly: "You..."

Gu Zhixing's lips curled up slightly, and the gloom in his eyes vanished instantly, replaced by a gentle smile.

"I'm happy now."

He said it in a low voice, with a hint of smugness in it.

Why dwell on the past?

Anyway, she's in my arms now, she can't go anywhere.

If he were to dwell on those past events, he would probably be the one who gets angry to death first.

Letting others be proud for no reason, isn't that something only a fool would do?

Thinking about it this way, he actually cheered himself up.

"Do your own makeup!"

Embarrassed and annoyed, Shen Jintang threw Luo Dai into his arms and turned to leave.

But Gu Zhixing reacted quickly, grabbing her wrist and pulling her back into his arms with a little force.

"I was wrong." He gently rested his chin on her shoulder, his voice muffled, with a hint of pleading.

His warm breath brushed against her neck, like a gentle breeze across a lake, creating ripples that sent shivers down her spine.

He was clearly being affectionate, but his arms were wrapped tightly around her, as if he was afraid that if he let go, the person in his arms would turn into a wisp of smoke and slip away through his fingers.

Shen Jintang felt an itch on the side of her neck from his hot breath, and her fingertips unconsciously tugged at the jade belt around his waist.

The white jade openwork buckle pressed against his palm, giving off a slight coolness that contrasted sharply with the warmth of the fabric in his arms.

"What did I do wrong?" She deliberately kept a straight face, but her voice couldn't help but soften slightly at the end.

Gu Zhixing chuckled softly, his nose lightly brushing against the thin skin behind her ear, causing her to tremble as if she had been gently bitten by an ant.

“The mistake was…” He suddenly took her earlobe into his mouth and gently bit it, his voice low and deep, as if coming from the depths of his chest, “I should have snatched you away sooner.”

In this way, she would belong to him completely.

The bronze mirror on the dressing table gleamed with a soft light, reflecting the intertwined figures of the two.
