Chapter 24 Not enough money spent

"As I have said before, I will protect you, and naturally I will not tolerate anyone who would harm you in front of me."

Gu Zhixing straightened his back slightly, his tone carrying an undeniable pride.

Hearing this, Shen Jintang breathed a slight sigh of relief, and a barely perceptible smile appeared on the corner of her mouth.

He's still that brainless young prince, adorably silly.

She looked up at him, her eyes serious: "Your Highness is of the highest order, and you always keep your word. In this world, there is probably no one as reliable as Your Highness."

Upon hearing this, Gu Zhixing couldn't help but smile, a hint of smugness in his eyes, and said arrogantly, "Of course, you have good taste."

Just then, Ye Qingzhou came running over, his face full of tension and worry: "Boss, what happened to you..."

Before he could finish speaking, he caught sight of Gu Zhixing holding Shen Jintang in his arms, the two of them so close together. His voice caught in his throat, his eyes widened as if he had seen something unbelievable.

Upon hearing Ye Qingzhou's voice, Gu Zhixing belatedly realized that his and Shen Jintang's current posture was far too intimate.

His face flushed instantly, and his ears felt like they were on fire. He quickly released Shen Jintang, scrambled to his feet, and muttered in a flustered manner, "What... what is this? It's just... just a coincidence."

Shen Jintang didn't feel anything was wrong. She calmly got up, dusted herself off, and looked indifferent.

The surrounding noise gradually subsided.

With the threat of assassins and arrows gone, the people in Chunfeng Tower gradually calmed down.

At the invitation of the owner of Chunfenglou, everyone sat down together again, and the atmosphere returned to its previous liveliness.

"Boss, who is this...?" Ye Qingzhou glanced at Shen Jintang from time to time, his tone tentative as he asked Gu Zhixing.

He had heard Gu Yanqing mention a few things about what had happened to Gu Zhixing recently, but he had never met Shen Jintang, so he was full of doubts.

Gu Zhixing opened his mouth, hesitated, and didn't know how to introduce Shen Jintang's identity.

They say she's Grand Tutor Shen's illegitimate daughter?

This seems inappropriate, since this identity cannot be made public.

He said he had kidnapped a maid?

That's even worse; for Shen Jintang, that would be an insult.

Just as Gu Zhixing was still struggling with his decision, Shen Jintang smiled slightly and said calmly and composedly, "My name is Shen Jintang."

"Shen? Shen Jintang?" Ye Qingzhou's eyes widened suddenly, and his gaze towards Shen Jintang became intriguing.

He seemed to have a vague sense of something, but he wasn't sure.

Gu Zhixing felt uncomfortable when he saw Ye Qingzhou's look.

He frowned and said coldly, "What are you looking at? What's so interesting? Don't you have anything better to do?"

As he spoke, he kicked Ye Qingzhou in the knee, causing him to stumble and almost lose his balance.

Ye Qingzhou, however, still had a grin on his face. He rubbed his knee and said through gritted teeth, "Ouch, boss, that was a really hard kick. I was just curious, don't be so fierce."

As he spoke, he deliberately winked at Shen Jintang, as if teasing Gu Zhixing.

Gu Zhixing was furious with him and was about to speak again when Gu Yanqing walked over, grabbed Ye Qingzhou's arm, and dragged him away, saying, "Alright, alright, stop causing trouble here. Go do your thing and don't bother people."

As Ye Qingzhou was being pulled along by Gu Yanqing, she turned back and winked at Shen Jintang, saying, "Shen Jintang, what a lovely name. I'll have to get to know you better in the future."

After saying that, he was dragged away by Gu Yanqing, muttering something under his breath.

Shen Jintang smiled at Ye Qingzhou, a hint of envy in her eyes, but quickly lowered her gaze as if nothing had happened.

This subtle change in expression naturally caught Gu Zhixing's attention. He followed Shen Jintang's gaze and carefully examined Ye Qingzhou for a few moments, but couldn't discern anything special about her.

But he could tell that Shen Jintang was not very happy.

Gu Zhixing frowned, looked at Shen Jintang, and said, "Ignore him, he's always been irresponsible."

Shen Jintang nodded gently and responded softly, "Mm."

After the commotion at Chunfeng Tower, Gu Zhixing lost the will to stay any longer and took Shen Jintang back to the Princess's residence.

Shen Jintang maintained her dignified demeanor, following behind Gu Zhixing in silence.

For some reason, Gu Zhixing felt something was off and kept turning around to look at Shen Jintang.

Shen Jintang naturally noticed the frequent eye contact and asked, "Is there something you need, Your Highness?"

Gu Zhixing was silent for a moment, his eyes showing some hesitation, before finally speaking, "Are you unhappy?"

He felt a pang of regret as soon as he finished speaking.

That's a rather redundant question.

Shen Jintang could have lived a peaceful life as a cousin of the Shen family, but now she has been brought back by him and become a maid in the mansion. It is normal for her to be unhappy.

Just as Shen Jintang was about to say something nice, Gu Zhixing stopped her: "Alright, stop talking. Let me think about what to do."

what to do?

What should we do?

Even with her keen intellect, Shen Jintang was completely bewildered by Gu Zhixing's sudden action.

What does he want to do?

Gu Zhixing took a step back, carefully examining Shen Jintang from head to toe, stroking his chin and shaking his head from time to time, as if he were pondering something.
