Chapter 79 My Heart Aches

"Shen Jintang, you've gone too far!"

Gu Zhixing wanted to argue a few more points, but then he saw Shen Jintang sway as she stood up and walked towards him.

Her steps were unsteady, as if she were walking on clouds, each step swaying precariously, as if she were about to fall.

"Slow down!"

Gu Zhixing instinctively reached out to support her, worried that she might fall.

But Shen Jintang used the force to push him down onto the bed.

Gu Zhixing lost his balance and fell backward, his back slamming heavily onto the soft bedding with a dull thud.

He tried to struggle to get up, but Shen Jintang had already pressed down on him and pinned him down firmly.

Her body leaned forward slightly, and her breath, hot and slightly intoxicated, hit Gu Zhixing's face, causing him to freeze for a moment.

Gu Zhixing's heart clenched, and he leaned back, stammering, "You...you...don't take advantage of me while I'm drunk!"

Even so, his body betrayed his reason, and he showed no intention of pushing her away.

His fingers curled slightly as he instinctively gripped the bedding beneath him, his palms slightly sweaty.

"You're only good-looking with your face on; you're just a pretty face."

Shen Jintang reached out and gently stroked Gu Zhixing's cheek, leaving a tingling sensation where her fingertips touched.

Her breath carried a faint scent of wine, but her eyes held a hint of amusement: "However, it is indeed very beautiful."

As she spoke, she leaned down slightly and kissed him without hesitation.

Her lips were soft and warm, with a touch of drunken awkwardness, yet irresistible.

Gu Zhixing froze instantly, his breathing becoming rapid.

His hand unconsciously pressed against the back of Shen Jintang's neck, trying to deepen the kiss and firmly grasp this sudden flutter of emotion.

His heart was pounding like a drum, almost leaping out of his chest.

However, just as he was immersed in this thrill, there was another crisp "snap".

Shen Jintang's hand landed hard on his face.

The slap wasn't forceful, but it carried a drunken ferocity, instantly turning Gu Zhixing's cheeks crimson.

"Shen Jintang, where did you learn this bad habit of hitting people from?"

Gu Zhixing was brought back to his senses by the beating, and those romantic thoughts vanished instantly, replaced by a sense of shame after being humiliated.

He suddenly sat up, his eyes wide open, his pupils filled with shock and disbelief.

"idiot!"

Shen Jintang gently pinched Gu Zhixing's chin with her fingers, as if teasing a docile kitten. Her eyes held a hint of condescending scrutiny, but her tone was somewhat flippant: "Hitting you... is your blessing..."

"Good fortune? Who are you? A celestial being descended to earth? Do you think you can transform me from a ghost by hitting me?"

Gu Zhixing slightly raised his chin, a carefree smile playing on his lips, his gaze fixed directly into Shen Jintang's eyes.

"Me? Who am I?" Shen Jintang was slightly taken aback, her eyes somewhat unfocused, as if she had fallen into a daze.

"Yeah, who are you?" Gu Zhixing looked at Shen Jintang with interest and asked, "You don't even know who you are, do you?"

Seemingly sensing the sarcasm in the other person's words, Shen Jintang raised her hand, intending to strike again.

This time, however, he failed, as Gu Zhixing grabbed his wrist.

"I...of course I know who I am." Shen Jintang looked at Gu Zhixing with a drunken haze and whispered, "I...I am You..."

"You? You what?"

Gu Zhixing frowned and asked with some doubt.

Before she could finish speaking, Shen Jintang's eyes suddenly dimmed, and she swayed and fell forward.

Gu Zhixing instinctively reached out to steady her, but was met with silence.

He looked down and saw that Shen Jintang was already leaning against him, breathing steadily, and had fallen asleep.

He narrowed his eyes slightly, a hint of confusion and contemplation in his gaze.

quiet?

What's so funny?

Moonlight streamed in through the window, casting a soft silver glow on Shen Jintang's face, but it couldn't conceal the faint trace of weariness between her brows.

"Never mind."

If you can't figure it out, then stop thinking about it.

Gu Zhixing shook his head and gently placed her back on the bed. His fingers unconsciously brushed across her forehead, the movement so light as if he were afraid of disturbing her dreams.

A strange feeling welled up inside him.

Shen Jintang seemed to be hiding many secrets from him, but she always kept them to herself.

This feeling of being kept in the dark made him somewhat irritated, yet he felt helpless.

He sighed, his gaze lingering on her sleeping face for a long time before finally shaking his head helplessly.

"I've never had such a headache with anyone before."

He murmured softly, his voice carrying a hint of helplessness, yet also a subtle, almost imperceptible doting affection.

The next day, early morning.

Sunlight filtered through the leaves, falling on Shen Jintang's face. The dappled light and shadow flickered slightly, a little dazzling.

She instinctively reached out to cover her head, but felt a heavy weight on her head, as if it were tightly wrapped by something, and it hurt terribly.

The aftereffects of a hangover are always so unpleasant.

Just as she was about to throw off the covers and get out of bed, a warm and strong force came from her waist, gently pulling her back to the bedside.

"who?"

Shen Jintang's voice was slightly hoarse, and she slowly turned her head with a stiff neck.

"Sleep a little longer. I've already told Mother that you should rest today."

Gu Zhixing's voice was languid and deep, with a hint of hoarseness from not being fully awake, as if he were still lingering in a dream.

When Shen Jintang saw that it was Gu Zhixing, she was stunned and stared blankly at his face so close to hers, her eyes full of confusion.

What's wrong with her?

My memory is still stuck in the chaos of last night, a blur.

"Your Highness, I...you..."

She stammered as she spoke, only to find that she couldn't even finish a sentence.

How did Gu Zhixing end up in her bed?

Having spent so much time together, she had gotten used to the bed being hers, while Gu Zhixing should be sleeping on the floor.

Gu Zhixing frowned lazily, seemingly unwilling to open his eyes. He simply hugged Shen Jintang tighter, resting his chin gently on her shoulder, and said in a muffled voice, "Yesterday you were making a fuss about taking off my clothes and wouldn't let me leave. The more I moved, the more you made a scene. I had no choice but to hold you and sleep with you all night."

Shen Jintang's face instantly burned. Only then did she realize that Gu Zhixing was only wearing a thin undergarment, and the two of them were separated only by her nightgown. She could even clearly feel the warmth emanating from his body.

She knew she wasn't a good drinker and always tried to avoid getting drunk, so she didn't doubt the truth of Gu Zhixing's words at all. She just lowered her head shyly and muttered softly, "Actually, you could have just knocked me out."

Gu Zhixing moved his arm slightly, pulling Shen Jintang into his embrace. His tone was light and airy, yet tinged with doting: "It's nothing serious. It's okay to make a fuss, but I didn't have to knock you out. I'm not very accurate, what if I hurt you?"
