However, Gu Zhixing's gaze gradually turned indifferent towards her, an innate arrogance that made it seem as if he had never truly taken her seriously.
In his eyes, Shen Wanwan was nothing more than an insignificant existence. Seeing her was like seeing a table or a chair; he simply "saw" her.
In other words, to him, Shen Wanwan was nothing more than an object, not someone worthy of his attention.
"So what?"
Gu Zhixing raised an eyebrow slightly, a faint smile curving his lips, and continued to casually play with his fingernails.
His voice was calm and languid, as if he were saying something perfectly ordinary: "You died because you were foolish and incompetent!"
He elegantly crossed one leg over the other, leaned back slightly in his chair, and looked at them with a hint of contempt: "If you're not capable enough, look for the reasons within yourself. Do you think you can change the outcome by yelling a few words? I'll give you a hundred more chances, and the result will still be the same."
Sunlight streamed through the half-open window, casting shadows on his face and outlining his aloof features.
As for utilizing...
"She likes power, and that's exactly what I have in abundance. Doesn't that mean she likes me?"
yes!
There are many powerful and influential people in Kyoto, but he is probably the only one who is both powerful and influential and completely "deceived" by her.
If not him, who should we choose?
"you!"
Shen Wanwan's eyes widened, almost unable to believe her ears.
This was the first time she had heard such remarks.
As far as she knew, wasn't Prince Gu the one who hated being deceived and taken advantage of?
The last person who cheated him, it seems, had his leg broken by him.
But why was he so lenient with Shen Jintang?
Just how much bewitching potion did Shen Jintang give him?
Shen Wanwan was lost in confusion when Gu Zhixing's voice rang out again, interrupting her thoughts: "Get out of here, don't let this young master see you in the capital."
Gu Zhixing confirmed his suspicions with Shen Wanwan, so there was no need for him to stay any longer.
He stood up, his steps steady and composed, and walked towards the door.
His figure appeared exceptionally upright in the sunlight. As he reached the door, he slightly turned his head, his gaze sweeping over the remaining maids and servants inside. His tone carried an undeniable coldness: "Go back and tell Shen Huaixu that I, the young master, will only give him one day. After one day, if even one word that I, the young master, utters appears in the capital, I will cut out his tongue."
His voice echoed in the room, carrying a chilling authority.
However, he did not make things difficult for these maids and servants, because he knew they were just following orders.
He always clearly distinguished between right and wrong, and debts and their perpetrators.
The moment Gu Zhixing stepped out of the inn, a gust of cold wind rushed towards him, carrying a biting chill.
Dark clouds had silently covered the sun, and the once bright sky instantly darkened, as if a heavy snow was about to fall.
The weather is always so unpredictable, and his mood is just like the ever-changing sky, a complete mess.
He stood at the entrance of the inn, squinting slightly as he gazed at the distant sky shrouded in dark clouds, a feeling of indescribable oppression welling up inside him.
In the inn, when he faced Shen Wanwan, he appeared calm and composed, his tone full of confidence.
In reality, however, the turmoil in his heart had already been stirred up by Shen Wanwan's words.
Having spent so much time with Shen Jintang, he was not unaware of her concealment.
On the contrary, he could clearly see those subtle expressions, shifty eyes, and hesitant words.
He kept hypnotizing himself, forcing himself not to care about these things, telling himself that it was just her little thought and it didn't matter.
However, when Shen Wanwan brought these hidden doubts into the open, he could no longer pretend to be indifferent as before.
The doubts he had forcibly suppressed now surged forth like a tidal wave, leaving him nowhere to put them.
He knew he needed an answer, an answer that would put his mind at ease.
Gu Zhixing turned around and led a horse over, his movements swift and decisive.
He mounted his horse, gripped the reins tightly, took a deep breath, and cleared his mind of distractions.
The sound of horses' hooves echoed on the silent road, crisp and powerful, as if beating a war drum for his determination.
"drive!"
He gave a soft shout, and the horse galloped towards Kyoto like an arrow, raising a cloud of dust.
The wind whistled past his ears, ruffling his hair and dispelling some of the confusion in his heart.
He needs to find Shen Jintang and ask her directly for clarification.
Upon returning to the Princess's residence, Gu Zhixing dismounted somewhat hastily.
He strode into the mansion, his eyes scanning the surroundings, trying to catch a glimpse of Shen Jintang.
However, the mansion was completely silent, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind, which made it seem particularly cold and desolate.
He first went to Shen Jintang's study, but when he opened the door, he saw only bookshelves standing quietly in place, with no one there.
He went to the garden, where the flowers and trees were lush, but he could only hear birdsong and not see anyone.
Gu Zhixing felt increasingly uneasy, and his steps became more hurried.
"Where is Shen Jintang?" he asked a servant in the mansion, his voice tinged with urgency. "Has she returned?"
The servant bowed respectfully and replied, "Young Master, this servant has not seen the young lady return."
"They haven't come back?"
Gu Zhixing frowned, his brows furrowed, and a hint of confusion flashed in his eyes.
He clearly saw Shen Jintang's carriage come out of the palace, and the road led directly to the Princess's residence, with no other destination in between.
