Chapter 4 Revenge

*** Prefecture.

"Wash her clean, then go find a doctor."

Gu Zhixing placed Shen Jintang on the couch, and looking at his clothes soaked with blood, his tightly furrowed brows deepened.

"Yes, Your Highness."

After Gu Zhixing left, several maids quickly surrounded Shen Jintang and hurriedly helped her up.

——

Night fell, dark clouds loomed over the city, and flames soared into the sky, illuminating the deathly silence that blanketed the land.

Inside the city, wails of agony filled the air as swords pierced flesh, and blood and gore flew everywhere.

The air was thick with the stench of blood and smoke, and the interplay of firelight and darkness transformed the city into a living hell.

Amidst the ruins, Shen Jintang hid, only to be met by a hunting dog with its jaws wide open.

The hound's eyes gleamed with a wild green light, piercing the darkness of the night. It revealed a row of sharp fangs, glistening with sticky saliva, which gleamed coldly in the night.

Its mouth and nose were wet, its nostrils flared, and every breath reeked of blood. With a low growl, saliva dripped from its teeth as it lunged at her...

"ah--"

Shen Jintang suddenly sat up in bed, the pain from being bitten by the hunting dogs still lingering in her back.

She hugged her knees tightly, as if it would give her a sense of security. Her body trembled slightly, and her long hair cascaded down, obscuring her pale face, leaving only a pair of terrified eyes that revealed helplessness and fear through the gaps in her hair.

The room was dimly lit, with only the moonlight filtering through the curtains and casting dappled shadows on her, adding to her desolate appearance.

She clenched her fingers so tightly that her nails dug into her flesh.

It hurts, of course it hurts.

But only the pain could tell her that she was still alive, that she had escaped from that city of the dead.

From now on, she will not only live for herself, but also for the souls of all those who died unjustly in the city!

I will not rest in peace until I avenge this humiliation.

"woke up?"

A lazy voice entered her ears, and Shen Jintang looked over almost immediately on alert.

The newcomer was dressed in crimson, which made him appear even more profound and mysterious in the dimly lit room.

He had just finished showering; his hair was still wet, and water droplets dripped slowly from the ends, making even the air feel humid.

The man was strikingly handsome, with an ethereal, aloof air about him, yet his damp hair and casually draped crimson robes added a touch of humanity. His skin appeared exceptionally fair in the dim light, contrasting sharply with his crimson attire and making him appear even more exquisitely sculpted, like jade.

A sharp pain shot through Shen Jintang's brow. She remembered that she had already left the slave market.

The person in front of me is Gu Zhixing, the number one playboy in Kyoto.

She deliberately spread the news to Grand Tutor Shen that his illegitimate daughter had come to the capital.

He had a grudge against Grand Tutor Shen, and he would never let go of the fact that Grand Tutor Shen had an illegitimate daughter, which was bad for his reputation.

Just as she expected, Gu Zhixing came and bought her from the slave market.

Gu Zhixing, the son of ***, what a prestigious status!

He was like a sharp knife, and she was about to use that knife to sever the hatred that entangled her.

"Thank you so much for saving my life, Your Highness!" Shen Jintang looked up at him and smiled, the curve of her lips just right.

Gu Zhixing was momentarily dazed. He stepped forward, reached out and rubbed Shen Jintang's face twice, saying, "If it weren't for your raspy voice, I really wouldn't have recognized you."

"Wash it clean, and you'll look alright, even though you're such an ugly bean sprout!" Gu Zhixing pinched the flesh on her cheeks together, which made her look even more comical.

I never expected that dirty bean sprouts would turn into crisp and fresh bok choy after being washed clean.

“Your Highness is the first person to say I’m ugly.” Shen Jintang lowered her eyes, reached for the teacup beside her, and took a sip of tea. The warm liquid flowed slowly down her throat, soothing her hoarse throat.

The delicate fragrance of tea filled her mouth, seemingly calming her unease somewhat.

She lifted her gaze from the edge of the teacup and looked at the man in crimson again. The wariness in her eyes had long since turned harmless, and her voice had regained some of its former tone.

“Ugliness isn’t the main issue; the main issue is stupidity.” Gu Zhixing took out a clean purse and waved it in front of Shen Jintang, saying, “Jumping off a speeding carriage just for a purse like this, tell me, aren’t you stupid?”

This bean sprout was lucky; it didn't break its arm or leg.

As soon as Shen Jintang saw the purse, her eyes immediately tensed up, and she reached out to grab it, but Gu Zhixing dodged her.

He had long, slender limbs and deliberately held his purse high, forcing Shen Jintang to kneel down and stretch her arms to reach it, but she always fell just short.

The distance between the two became subtle because of this action. Shen Jintang's breathing gradually quickened, and her hair occasionally brushed against Gu Zhixing's cheek, carrying a faint fragrance.

A strange look flashed in Gu Zhixing's eyes. He reached out and pressed down on Shen Jintang's shoulder, controlling her restless body.

"Want it?" Gu Zhixing asked deliberately, his voice tinged with a hint of mockery.

Shen Jintang's cheeks flushed slightly with anxiety. Her gaze was fixed on the purse, the last thing she had that connected her to the past, and she couldn't afford to lose it.

"Your Highness, that purse is very important to me. Please return it to me." Shen Jintang tried her best to keep her voice steady, but her tightly furrowed brows still betrayed her current state of mind.
