Shen Jintang curled herself up into a ball, her nose gently brushing against the lingering warmth of the pillow. Her heart skipped a beat, and a slight blush rose to her cheeks.
A rustling sound came from the ground; it was Gu Zhixing making the bedding.
Shen Jintang gripped the corner of the blanket tightly, her knuckles turning white, her nails almost digging into the soft fabric.
"The ground is cold."
She spoke softly, her voice barely audible, with a slight tremor.
The room fell silent instantly, with only the occasional faint crackling of the lamp wick, which sounded particularly clear in the stillness.
"I...I'm used to it." Gu Zhixing's voice was hoarse, with a hint of panic. "You're injured, you need to get some sleep."
Shen Jintang shifted to the inside of the bed, the rustling sound of the bedding against each other being particularly clear in the silence.
She took a deep breath and mustered her courage to say, "Come on up."
There was no response. She could imagine Gu Zhixing frozen in place, his ears burning red, his heart pounding like a drum.
“I’ll tell you,” she said again, her fingertips unconsciously tightening around the corner of the blanket, her voice carrying an undeniable air.
"It will...it will crowd you..." His voice grew softer and softer until it was almost inaudible, as if he were struggling with himself.
Shen Jintang groped around and patted the empty seat next to her, her movements resolute.
The indentation where she had just lain was still visible on the bedding, now slowly springing back as if waiting for something.
She could sense Gu Zhixing's hesitation and his inner struggle.
Finally, she heard Gu Zhixing slowly get up.
The bed sags slightly, and the warmth of my body shines through the thin blankets.
He lay very still, even his breathing was soft, as if a fragile porcelain doll was lying next to him.
Shen Jintang could feel his muscles tense all over, and even the bedding was taut, as if he was nervous about something.
She quietly moved half an inch over there, and their arms accidentally touched.
Gu Zhixing shuddered violently, as if he had been burned by fire. His body stiffened instantly, but he still couldn't dodge.
Shen Jintang heard the sound of his Adam's apple bobbing, which was particularly clear in the quiet night, as if she could feel his inner panic and struggle.
"Go to sleep."
She spoke softly, the corners of her mouth unconsciously curving upwards, her voice carrying a hint of reassurance.
In the darkness, she could sense that Gu Zhixing was still very nervous, but he eventually went to bed.
