Chapter 221 Blindness

He paused for a moment, then said, "In short, you need to be in a good mood so that your blood and qi can flow smoothly, and the blood stasis will dissipate on its own."

As soon as he finished speaking, the powdered medicine in the copper scale made a rustling sound.

Gu Zhixing chased after the doctor to the door and grabbed his sleeve: "How long will it take at the worst?"

The old doctor gazed at the deepening night outside the door, where lanterns under the eaves swayed gently in the wind, casting dappled shadows.

"I have been practicing medicine for forty years and have seen many people I would never see in my lifetime."

Turning his head and seeing Gu Zhixing's pale face, he softened his tone, "However, the young lady is still young and full of energy, so she probably won't be the worst kind."

After getting the medicine, the two walked back.

The moonlight, like water, spilled across the bluestone path, casting long shadows of the two people.

Gu Zhixing squatted down, his back to Shen Jintang: "Get on, I'll carry you."

But she held onto his sleeve tightly and refused to let go, her nails almost digging into his flesh.

"I can walk." Her voice trembled, like the last stubborn withered leaf in the autumn wind, but the fingers gripping his belt betrayed her inner fear.

The sash had been twisted into a messy, crumpled mess under the moonlight.

Gu Zhixing sighed and covered her cold fingers with his warm palm.

Without her eyes, her steps were unsteady, as if she were walking on clouds, and every step felt like she was about to fall into an abyss.

Suddenly, her embroidered shoe kicked a protruding pebble, and she fell forward.

Gu Zhixing tightened his arms, pulling her into his embrace. Her forehead bumped against his collarbone with a muffled thud.

“Slow down,” he said in a deep, gentle voice. “There’s a puddle ahead. I’ll lead you around it.”

Shen Jintang suddenly buried her face in his chest, and her warm tears instantly soaked through his clothes.

The moist sensation seeped into his skin, burning his heart with pain.

"What if... what if I never get better?"

Her voice was muffled, with a heavy nasal tone, as if it came from a very far place.

Gu Zhixing paused, the moonlight casting varying shades of shadow on his sharply defined profile.

A moment later, he held her slender waist tightly, his voice steady as if making an eternal vow: "Then I will hold your hand every day and be your eyes for a lifetime. If you want to see spring flowers, I will trace the patterns on the petals for you; if you want to see the autumn moon, I will tell you how gentle the moonlight is tonight."

When he pushed open the creaking wooden door, Shen Jintang's fingers were still tightly gripping his sleeve, refusing to let go.

Inside, the candlelight flickered, casting shimmering shadows on the mottled walls.

Gu Zhixing helped her sit down on the edge of the bed. The hot water in the copper basin rose in wisps of white steam, blurring his features.
