Chapter 50 But I Don't Want You to Bear It Alone

Shen Jintang looked at Gu Zhixing with a complicated expression.

Faces from the past flashed through her mind; those people, when they interacted with her, always carried overt or covert calculations, and the exchange of interests was like a never-ending game.

However, at this moment, Gu Zhixing, who was standing in front of her, had eyes full of pure concern and determination, without the slightest impurity.

She never imagined that there could be such a pure and sincere heart in this world, without any consideration for self-interest.

His eyes, his actions, even the slight redness of his ears, all silently spoke of his sincerity.

A strange feeling welled up in Shen Jintang's heart, as if a warm current was quietly spreading in her heart, making her feel a little at a loss.

She pursed her lips slightly, a hint of confusion flashing in her eyes, yet also a touch of emotion.

She tried to speak, but found herself unable to find the right words to respond to this purity.

"I..." she murmured softly, her voice so low it was almost inaudible. In the end, she just sighed softly and looked back at Gu Zhixing's face.

Shen Jintang remained silent for a moment, her gaze lingering on Gu Zhixing's face, as if trying to find a flaw in his expression.

But she still found nothing.

Finally, she gave in, gently shaking her head with a hint of helplessness in her voice: "Alright, don't stay here anymore, go on your way."

She didn't continue the topic that made her uneasy; she simply waved her hand dismissively, signaling Gu Zhixing to leave.

She dared not look at Gu Zhixing anymore; this unfamiliar emotion made her feel uneasy.

Shen Jintang's words seemed to remind Gu Zhixing of something. He suddenly slapped his forehead, making an exaggerated gesture.

"oops!"

A hint of urgency flashed in Gu Zhixing's eyes. He quickly turned around and walked towards the dilapidated back window.

His movements were light and swift, and his figure appeared exceptionally agile in the moonlight.

With her hands braced on the windowsill, she leaped lightly and gracefully flipped out the window.

Is he really gone?

He just left without saying a word.

As Shen Jintang watched Gu Zhixing's figure disappear out of the window, a sudden feeling of emptiness welled up in her heart.

It was as if the warm embrace she had just received was only a brief respite, and she was once again enveloped in loneliness.

She frowned slightly, trying to dispel this inexplicable emotion, but found that it lingered in her heart and wouldn't go away.

However, not long after, a slight sound came from outside the window.

"Knock knock—"

Shen Jintang looked towards the back window, stood up, and walked over.

Gu Zhixing reappeared by the window, carrying a thick quilt in his arms.

"then."

He carefully handed in the bedding.

Shen Jintang looked at him, a complex emotion welling up inside her, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.

She paused for a moment, then slowly reached out to take the bedding.

Gu Zhixing released his grip, and the bedding landed steadily in Shen Jintang's hands.

After freeing his hands, he swayed and nimbly flipped in, landing almost without making a sound.

“I know your temper, and I know I can’t persuade you, but if you stay here all night like this, you’ll definitely get sick.” His voice was deep and serious, as if he were talking about something of utmost importance.

Shen Jintang seemed to realize what Gu Zhixing was about to say, and she awkwardly stuffed the blanket back into Gu Zhixing's arms, interrupting him.

"Um?"

"oh!"

Gu Zhixing looked at the bedding in his hands, hesitated for a second or two, then assumed he understood Shen Jintang's meaning and clumsily went to make the bedding for her.

She watched as Gu Zhixing clumsily made the bed for her, his movements somewhat awkward, the blankets getting all wrinkled in his hands.

As he laid out the bedding, he muttered, "Why is this bedding so difficult to work with..."

Shen Jintang couldn't help but chuckle softly and stepped forward to help him tidy up.

Then, she looked at Gu Zhixing and said softly, "Thank you."

The voice was softer and more sincere than ever before.

I might have been just trying to appease her before, but this time I genuinely want to thank him.

Gu Zhixing raised his head, a hint of arrogance in his eyes: "Of course."

Although he said that, his eyes were full of tenderness, and his cheeks were slightly flushed, as if he was a little embarrassed by Shen Jintang's gaze.

Seeing that he made no other move, Shen Jintang couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you leaving?"

These words dispelled all of Gu Zhixing's embarrassment.

He pursed his lips, a hint of stubbornness in his eyes, and explained, "Look at your skinny arms and legs, you can't even kill a chicken! If I leave, and Grand Tutor Shen sends someone to silence you, do you think you can resist?"

Seeing the white banners hanging at the Grand Tutor's mansion today really startled him.

For the first time, he realized that Shen Jintang seemed to have unknowingly occupied a certain place in his heart.

“I…” Shen Jintang opened his mouth, feeling humiliated for the first time.

Seeing Shen Jintang's discomfiture, Gu Zhixing licked his lips and added, "Also, don't eat or drink anything given to you by others. I will have Chongyang bring you food and drink. You are not allowed to eat anything given to you by anyone other than me!"

"Do you understand?" Seeing Shen Jintang's stunned look, Gu Zhixing asked again.

Shen Jintang looked away and nodded.

Gu Zhixing breathed a slight sigh of relief, a hint of satisfaction flashing in his eyes.

But soon, the satisfaction in his eyes turned into embarrassment.

The woodshed is too small, and he only brought one quilt. What will he do if Shen Jintang lies down?
