Chapter 29 Confession
The night wind was biting cold, the black sky stretched endlessly, and her bright eyes, like the brightest star, hung high in the night sky.
"Fool."
Jiang Jizhou smiled at her very softly.
Yu Bai gave him a shy glare, and Jiang Jizhou smiled and said, "I'll protect you."
Yu Bai retorted, "I can protect you too."
Jiang Jizhou walked into the villa, and Yu Bai followed him inside. The air conditioning was on, making it warm and cozy.
Jiang Jizhou turned his head to look at her, "I'm the older brother."
Yu Bai looked away and muttered softly, "He's not really my brother."
Jiang Jizhou suddenly leaned closer, snowflakes still clinging to his long eyelashes, and asked softly, "Hmm?"
Yu Bai blushed, thinking he hadn't heard her clearly, "It's nothing."
Jiang Jizhou rubbed her head, a doting smile on his lips.
He wanted to keep the stars to himself.
-
On the first day of winter vacation, Yu Bai slept until noon. When she opened her sleepy eyes, the bright sunlight shone directly into the bedroom. She rubbed her eyes, took out her phone, and saw that it was eleven o'clock.
There were three missed calls on my phone, all from Uncle Jiang.
Yu Bai fought back.
"Hey, Uncle Jiang."
"Bai Bai, did you just wake up?"
Yu Bai was a little embarrassed, "Mm."
Uncle Jiang smiled and said, "Winter break is a time for rest."
Yu Bai also gave a soft "hmm" and fell into a brief silence.
After a moment, Uncle Jiang tentatively asked, "Bai Bai, do you have any plans to go anywhere during winter break?"
Yu Bai blinked. She was a homebody and rarely went out. Then she thought that Uncle Jiang probably wanted to ease the tension between himself and Jiang Jizhou. She bit her lip, unsure of how to answer.
Uncle Jiang sighed, "I'm sorry to Ji Zhou. I want to make it up to him, but I don't have the chance. Bai Bai, would you be willing to help Uncle Jiang?"
His words were earnest, and Yu Bai softened, but she still wanted to ask Jiang Jizhou's opinion first.
"Uncle Jiang, I think we should take it slow. My brother definitely won't be able to accept going on a trip together all of a sudden," Yu Bai analyzed cautiously.
Uncle Jiang thought for a moment and agreed with her, "That's true."
"By the way, I apologize to you on behalf of Lin Yun. I didn't expect her to follow us last night."
Yu Bai shook his head. "He should apologize to his brother."
Uncle Jiang smiled and said, "Uncle Jiang knows. I've already sent Lin Yun to a mental hospital. She will never hurt you again."
"Ah." Yu Bai was a little shocked. Uncle Jiang had actually sent Lin Yun to a mental hospital.
Although Lin Yun was hateful, Uncle Jiang's actions made her shudder. Wasn't he being a bit too cruel? But when she thought of the image of Lin Yun stabbing Jiang Jizhou, she felt that at least Jiang Jizhou was safe this way.
Afterwards, Uncle Jiang inquired about Yu Bai's recent situation, showing concern for her health and studies.
After hanging up the phone, Yu Bai received an Alipay transfer from Uncle Jiang. As a reward for her consistently excellent academic performance, Yu Bai felt a warm feeling in her heart. This was because Ms. Yu never rewarded her for being number one in the grade. On the contrary, she would severely reprimand her if she regressed even slightly.
"in vain."
As she was thinking, Jiang Jizhou's clear voice came from outside the door.
Yu Bai ran over in her pajamas, opened the bedroom door, and poked her head out. Jiang Jizhou stood outside and reached out to tap her on the head.
"Ouch." Yu Bai reached out and covered his head.
Jiang Jizhou smiled faintly, "It's so late and you're still not up. Hurry up and wash up, eat, and go get your IV drip."
Upon hearing this, Yu Bai belatedly realized that today was the last time she would receive an IV drip. She immediately closed the door and said, "Okay, I'll change my clothes."
The weather outside is lovely, with warm winter sunshine.
The car drove smoothly. Yu Bai sat in the car, and the sunlight shone through the car window onto her face. She felt sleepy and her head swayed against the window. Her head was a little sore.
In her drowsy state, she felt her temples pressed against something soft, not hard glass, which felt very comfortable. She wanted to open her eyes, but she was too sleepy and slept until she arrived at the hospital.
It was Jiang Jizhou's hand; his hand served as a pillow the entire way, preventing her head from hitting the car window.
"Your hand must be numb," Yu Bai said with concern.
"It's okay, go get your IV drip." Jiang Jizhou smiled indifferently and accompanied her to the ward for the IV drip.
The ward smelled strongly of disinfectant. Yu Bai sat there obediently receiving an IV drip, while Jiang Jizhou was looking down at an extracurricular book, a foreign novel called "The Snow Is Coming," which he had read in the library that day.
There was a talkative old lady in the ward. Today was her first day receiving an IV drip. When she saw Yu Bai and Jiang Jizhou, she smiled and said to the old man next to her, "Old man, seeing them reminds me of when we were young."
The old man smiled kindly, recalling the past, "Haha, those were much tougher times. When we went to the countryside for the rural service program, medical conditions were poor. When you had a fever, I carried you over several mountains in the heavy snow..."
While idly receiving an IV drip, Yu Bai overheard their conversation and listened to the old man reminiscing about his bygone years. He was deeply moved by the old man's perseverance during those difficult times, and his eyes welled up with tears.
Seeing this, the old lady said to her, "Girl, your boyfriend is pretty good too, cherish him."
Yu Bai blushed, looked away, and was too embarrassed to answer. Jiang Jizhou put down his book and smiled at the old lady, saying, "It is I who should cherish her."
"Hahaha." The old lady and the old man laughed in unison.
Yu Bai glanced at Jiang Jizhou, who was smiling broadly, as if he were talking about something completely ordinary.
Yu Bai felt as if a jar of honey had been spilled, sweet and delightful.
After finishing the IV drip, I got home at 5 p.m., and it was getting dark.
Yu Bai was about to push the door open when Jiang Jizhou stopped him.
"Wait a minute."
A thin ribbon covered her eyes, obscuring her vision.
Jiang Jizhou took Yu Bai's hand and led her into the house. Yu Bai did not resist and let him lead her.
Carefully walking up the steps, Yu Bai was led to a wobbly, chair-like object. Only after sitting down did Yu Bai realize that it was a swing.
"alright."
His gentle and melodious voice rang in her ears, and Yu Bai felt her heart pounding in her throat. She could smell the fragrance of flowers, and a strange feeling surged within her.
She gently untied the ribbon, and a sea of flowers came into view, incomparably beautiful. Thousands of flowers of various colors were placed perfectly in every corner of the villa. In the very center was a swing woven from pink flowers and green vines, and she sat on the swing, in the heart of the flower sea.
She looked up, her eyes overflowing with surprise, almost to the point of panic.
"You..." She covered her mouth, stammering incoherently.
Jiang Jizhou knelt on one knee, took out a bouquet of flowers from the side and presented it to Yu Bai. He looked up, his burning gaze fixed on Yu Bai, "My dear Miss Yu Bai, will you be my girlfriend?"
Tears streamed down her face, like a spring rain.
"Mm." Yu Bai nodded repeatedly.
Her eyes, which had been the lake that had trapped him, now finally belonged to him.
The next second, Yu Bai felt a sudden weightlessness as she fell into his arms. He spun her around in his arms, and Yu Bai saw wisteria vines hanging from the ceiling, a dazzling beauty, a fragrant sea of flowers, happiness within reach. Overwhelmed with joy, Yu Bai felt as if she was about to faint.
"That's great, bye-bye."
I love you so much.
He murmured those straightforward and beautiful words of love, those long-suppressed thoughts that tormented him every night.
The happiest thing in the world is when the person you secretly love also happens to love you deeply.
Yu Bai's bright, wet eyes met Jiang Jizhou's lowered eyes. He lowered his head and gently kissed her eyes, kissing that bright star. She closed her eyes, her eyelashes trembling, covered by a soft blanket.
"That's great, bye-bye."
Yu Bai and Jiang Jizhou lay in a sea of flowers, the fragrance of the blossoms vying to fill their nostrils. He held her hand, constantly expressing his love. Yu Bai's eyes crinkled into crescents, her free hand pressed against her chest, as if afraid her heart would leap out of her chest.
Yu Bai, who was lying flat, turned over and lay on her side, and Jiang Jizhou also lay on his side. The two looked into each other's eyes, and their love was stronger than the fragrance of flowers.
Yu Bai gazed into his eyes and asked softly, "When did you start liking me?"
Jiang Jizhou smiled slightly and said softly, "In the cemetery, or perhaps even earlier."
"And you?"
Yu Bai lowered his eyes, "When you stood up for me in the classroom that day, it might have been even earlier."
After saying that, the two looked at each other and smiled.
His eyes meticulously traced Yu Bai's beautiful eyebrows, eyes, nose, and lips... imprinting her beautiful features onto his heart.
Unbeknownst to him, her every smile and frown had begun to captivate his heart.
Jiang Jizhou murmured, "Baby, you are so beautiful."
This unfamiliar term of endearment was the first time it had appeared between them. Yu Bai's face flushed red, and her heart was still pounding. They were now officially boyfriend and girlfriend, and Yu Bai was still in disbelief, still excited.
He was the darling of the world, surrounded by admirers, while she was hard of hearing and introverted. Although he encouraged her to gradually become more confident, she always felt that he was a distant star and moon in the sky, untouchable. But now, the stars fell, the moon rushed to her, and he lay beside her, whispering sweet nothings to her.
Yu Bai smiled radiantly. She covered her eyes, then opened them. His handsome face was still right in front of her, smiling at her. It wasn't a dream; it was real.
"That's wonderful," Yu Bai murmured softly. "I love you so much, Jiang Jizhou."
They are like toddlers learning to speak, having lost all advanced language, only able to utter the gentlest, purest, most straightforward, and most primal words of love, like Adam and Eve, expressing their affection.
"I love you so much too, bye-bye."
A wisteria petal fell and landed on Yu Bai's face, the purple and white blossoms making her appear even more gentle and beautiful.
Jiang Jizhou sat up, bent down, and gently and devoutly kissed the petals, making Yu Bai feel a ticklish sensation in her heart.
"This time, it's my turn to kiss you."
His hoarse voice lingered in her ears, and his warm breath reddened Yu Bai's earlobes.
