Chapter 48 Rainy Day

Chapter 48 Rainy Day

In the afternoon, Yu Bai stayed at home working. It was the final part, so it was very easy. After finishing, she finally breathed a sigh of relief, opened her phone, and saw a message from Chi Qinghe.

What are you doing?

Chi Qinghe was a bit clingy. Yu Bai suddenly realized that when they first met, he was very considerate, but after they became a couple, he started to become clingy, like a tentative cat, gradually taking over her life.

Just finished work.

Yu Bai closed his laptop, got up to stretch, grabbed a can of cola from the refrigerator, and then collapsed wearily onto the sofa.

[Bai Bai is awesome!]

Do you want to eat something nice tonight?

Yu Bai took a few sips of cola and replied to his message.

It's alright, I'll just eat whatever's available.

Chi Qinghe then forwarded 1314.

I'll treat you to something delicious.

Yu Bai smiled, his eyes crinkling.

Have you finished your work?

Chi Qinghe called her directly, his voice as gentle as ever, "I'm done with work and at home now. I'll go see your mother tomorrow."

Yu Bai said somewhat embarrassedly, "Thank you so much for taking care of my mom."

"Why are you being so polite with me?" Chi Qinghe smiled gently.

I chatted with Chi Qinghe for a long time, and only hung up the phone when the sky outside the window was dotted with stars.

Yu Bai lay on the sofa and finished the last sip of cola in the can. He remembered seeing a video where a netizen said that some people are like chargers; chatting with them for a few minutes can fully recharge you.

Yu Bai felt that Chi Qinghe was like a charger. Chi Qinghe was extremely gentle. They never said any sweet words to each other. His feelings for Yu Bai were always genuine but restrained. He was like a gentle stream in a quiet mountain valley. When Yu Bai was with him, she always felt exceptionally comfortable and at ease, and her heart was exceptionally calm.

After lying down for a while, Yu Bai opened his phone and asked Nan Kui to go out for dinner.

When Nan Kui learned that Yu Bai was in love, she looked utterly shocked, and then started gossiping, "You, this thousand-year-old iron tree, have finally blossomed. Let me see what you look like."

Yu Bai then realized that she didn't have any photos of Chi Qinghe. She opened Chi Qinghe's Moments, but it was completely blank.

"No way, you don't have a photo together?" Nan Kui wondered if Yu Bai was lying to her.

Yu Bai smiled helplessly, "Really, we just didn't take any photos. Neither of us really like taking photos."

“Ask him for one.” Nan Kui insisted, determined to see what Chi Qinghe looked like.

So, Yu Bai sent a message to Chi Qinghe.

Send me a photo of yourself.

When Chi Qinghe received the message, he was stunned for a second, not knowing why Yu Bai wanted his photo, but he was visibly happy.

He rarely takes photos, and it took him a long time to select a photo that he was reasonably satisfied with before sending it to Yu Bai.

After receiving the message, Yu Bai showed the photo to Nan Kui.

The photo was taken in the summer. Chi Qinghe is wearing a white shirt and gold-rimmed glasses, looking refined and gentle.

"So handsome!"

"We're a perfect match."

Nan Kui was very satisfied, and then asked Yu Bai, "What does he do?"

Yu Bai thought for a moment, "Game development."

"What a strange contrast." Nan Kui imagined the person in the photo as a high-achieving student who looked aloof and focused on studying, but now she's playing video games and is even a gaming expert. It's hard to believe.

Nan Kui said with relief, "That's good, Bai Bai, you've finally forgotten your ex-boyfriend."

Yu Bai was driving when he heard Nan Kui's words and almost slipped off the steering wheel.

Yu Bai's expression was somewhat gloomy. "I've long forgotten about him."

Seeing this, Nan Kui also felt that it was inappropriate to mention that person, so she immediately changed the subject.

The restaurant they went to was quite far, and the road was congested with vehicles and pedestrians. They kept stopping and starting, and before they knew it, the stars in the sky disappeared, large patches of dark clouds drifted in, and soon a light drizzle began to fall.

Why did it suddenly start raining?

Large raindrops pounded against the car window, the wipers worked diligently, and outside the window, groups of pedestrians were caught off guard by the sudden downpour and quickened their pace.

Nan Kui, who was standing nearby, said, "One autumn rain brings one chill."

Yu Bai nodded, staring at the road ahead of the headlights. It was an intersection, and she was being very cautious.

When the green light came on, Yu Bai started the car and slowly drove forward, but a scooter suddenly appeared and blocked his way. Yu Bai made an emergency right turn, but crashed head-on into another car.

With a loud bang, the two cars collided.

Due to inertia, Yu Bai's head slammed against the steering wheel. Nan Kui exclaimed, "Bai Bai, are you alright?"

Yu Bai calmed himself down and reassured Nan Kui, "It's okay, you can stay in the car for now."

She picked up the umbrella from the car and got out to talk to the owner of the other car.

Yu Bai opened her umbrella and got out of the car. Only after getting closer did she realize that the car looked very familiar.

The driver of the car opposite also got out; it was Uncle Wang.

"Bai Bai." He was also very surprised to see Yu Bai.

“Uncle Wang.” Yu Bai walked over.

Uncle Wang said with a smile, "What a coincidence! Ji Zhou is in the carriage. I'll go and call him."

Yu Bai tugged at his sleeve, "No need, Uncle Wang."

But Jiang Jizhou had already gotten off the car. Through the rain and mist, Yu Bai looked at him from afar, and he and Su Yin beside him looked like a perfect couple.

Su Yin held an umbrella for him. She was wearing a diamond-studded dress, slender high heels, and her hair was styled in an updo. She looked elegant and noble, yet playful.

Jiang Jizhou leaned down and whispered in her ear. Then Su Yin returned to the car with a smile, and Jiang Jizhou walked towards Yu Bai with an umbrella.

"in vain."

Jiang Jizhou's voice mingled with the sound of rain, making it somewhat noisy.

Yu Bai calmly said, "I'm sorry, it's my responsibility, I will make amends."

Jiang Jizhou smiled and said, "No need."

The rain intensified, as if a thick fog had descended. Rainwater splashed onto Yu Bai's exposed skin, the chill seeping into his bones.

Yu Bai started to hate rainy days, though he didn't know when it began.

She didn't look at Jiang Jizhou, but said to Uncle Wang, "Uncle Wang, I'll contact you later."

After saying that, Yu Bai turned and left.

Jiang Jizhou called her name from behind, but Yu Bai didn't turn around and went straight back to her car.

After getting in the car, Nan Kui asked, "Is that your ex-boyfriend?"

Yu Bai nodded.

"I just saw a woman next to him. Is she his current girlfriend?" Nan Kui asked tentatively.

Yu Bai shook his head.

"I have no idea."

"I just went down to check too. Luckily, the car wasn't badly damaged; it was just a scrape. It's fine." Seeing Yu Bai's somewhat gloomy expression, Nan Kui comforted him.

Yu Bai turned to her and smiled, "Okay, let's go."

She started the car, and because of the rain and the recent minor accident, Yu Bai was even more cautious.

What should have been a ten-minute drive took twenty minutes to reach the restaurant.

The restaurant is decorated in a cute pink and white color scheme, adorned with dolls and ribbons, making it very photogenic; many girls were taking pictures there.

Yu Bai took a few photos and sent them to Chi Qinghe.

[I came here to eat something delicious with my best friend.]

【Did you have meal? 】

Chi Qinghe took a picture of his meal.

I cooked porridge, corn and pork rib soup, and a plate of stir-fried vegetables.

[Made by myself.]

Yu Bai unconsciously raised the corners of his lips.

Wow, that's amazing! I want to eat it too.

Chi Qinghe was very happy to see her reply.

I'll make it for you every day from now on.

Yu Bai smiled.

【OK. 】

Nan Kui, who was also taking pictures nearby, saw Yu Bai typing with a silly smile and immediately understood. She leaned over and clicked her tongue, saying, "So sweet!"

Yu Bai turned off his phone screen and tapped Nan Kui on the head. "Go away."

Nan Kui gave a cheeky laugh, and Yu Bai steered the conversation towards her, "How are things going with your two online boyfriends?"

She added insult to injury, "You said you were going to meet up, but you didn't tell us anything."

When this was mentioned, Nan Kui immediately curled up like a hedgehog, giving a vague answer, "It's just like that."

Yu Bai was a little worried, "Has it been discovered?"

Nan Kui winked and said embarrassedly, "No, I ran away before they found out."

"Hmm?" Yu Bai cast a questioning glance.

Nan Kui grinned, "I blocked them."

Yu Bai raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

Nan Kui swallowed hard. "Staying alive is the most important thing."

"Hahahaha." Yu Bai burst into laughter, and Nan Kui pretended to hit her, forbidding Yu Bai from mentioning the matter again.

During the meal, Yu Bai received a WeChat message from Chi Qinghe.

It's raining here.

He sent me a short video showing light rain slowly trickling down a windowpane, leaving winding water stains.

It's raining here too.

Yu Bai turned his head to look at the glass window beside him. Rain was spreading, and there was a thick fog outside the window, which gave Yu Bai the illusion that Chi Qinghe was right next to him.

She also filmed a video and sent it to Chi Qinghe.

Chi Qinghe suddenly asked Yu Bai what his contact name was.

Yu Bai glanced at Chi Qinghe's full name, blinked, and answered honestly.

Chi Qinghe posted a sad emoji.

What's the nickname you gave me in your contact list?

Chi Qinghe sent a screenshot, and she saw that her contact name was "Baby Bai".

Yu Bai felt as if a flock of crows had flown over his head. He never expected that Chi Qinghe, who was known for his self-discipline, refined manners, and aloofness, would give him such a cheesy nickname in his contact list.

Yu Bai changed Chi Qinghe's full name to Qinghe in her notes and asked her to add "baby" after it, but she really couldn't do it.

Nan Kui rested her chin on her hand and looked at Yu Bai, who was typing with his head down. After chewing and swallowing her food, she said to Yu Bai, "You two have a good relationship."

Yu Bai raised his eyes and smiled faintly, "It's fine."

After finishing their meal, Yu Bai drove Nan Kui home before heading back to his own house.

Upon arriving at the residential area, it was still raining. Yu Bai opened her umbrella and walked in the rain. Suddenly, the images of Jiang Jizhou and Su Yin appeared in her mind, like faint rain streaks on a glass window.

After putting away her umbrella, Yu Bai took the elevator upstairs. Leaning against the wall, she felt inexplicably down because of the rainy day.

Back home, Yu Bai turned on the lights, filling the room with brightness, and felt even more lonely.

The cat, Orange, ran to her feet, rubbed against her, and meowed softly. Yu Bai smiled immediately, feeling a warm glow in her heart.

She crouched down and reached out to rub the orange's fluffy head, feeling a sense of healing.
