Chapter 38 The Blind Path

Chapter 38 The Blind Path

The news that Yu Bai hadn't gotten the interview with the president of Tingbai Technology spread throughout the magazine, and many people were watching her make a fool of herself. The editor-in-chief didn't say anything, and the magazine looked for someone else. Su Yin volunteered to take on the interview task.

Su Yin's first action was to mock Yu Bai, because she was often outdone by Yu Bai. She couldn't stand Yu Bai's hard work and seriousness, but in the end, it was all for naught.

She has always been clear about her likes and dislikes and never hides them.

"How about it?" Su Yin asked sarcastically as she walked up to Yu Bai's workstation, holding a cup of coffee.

Yu Bai was thinking about topics for the magazine's public welfare section. This was her first time taking over this section. After studying the previous news reports, she found that most of them were superficial, repeatedly raising old issues without pointing out the key issues or proposing solutions. Some articles didn't even have on-site interviews; they just reiterated the social issues that netizens cared about in a different way.

Indeed, this section is a peripheral section of the magazine and is not valued. However, Yu Bai wants to change its status quo. She feels that it receives more attention than some high-end economic news reports. True finance is not only about economic benefits, but also about social benefits.

The reason it's not valued now and has no readers is mainly because it hasn't been done well. If it had been done well, it would definitely have brought huge positive feedback to the magazine.

Su Yin's words interrupted Yu Bai's thoughts. She was stunned for a moment, then looked up at Su Yin, who was as proud as a peacock. "What?"

Su Yin was stunned. How could she be so dazed!

So Su Yin bluntly stated, "You think you're so great? You still failed to get an interview with the president of Tingbai Technology, and now you can only sheepishly manage the public welfare section that nobody reads."

Upon hearing this, Yu Bai smiled, too lazy to argue with her, and said in a calm voice, "Then I wish you success."

Her calm and indifferent demeanor only fueled Su Yin's anger. "Hmph, I don't need your wish for my success. I'm sure I'll get the interview."

Yu Bai ignored her, picked up the water glass on the table, took a sip of water, stared at the computer screen, and scrolled the mouse. A video caught his eye, which was about the issue of blind paths. Yu Bai's eyes lit up and he clicked on the video.

The young lady, who had been ignored, was now furious and called out to her again, "Yu Bai, did you hear me?!"

Yu Bai frowned slightly, glancing at Su Yin with a nonchalant air, "Aren't you working anymore?"

"Yeah, Miss Su, you're so noisy."

The colleague who liked to slack off, who was dozing off, was woken up by Su Yin's sharp and noisy voice and also spoke up.

Several other colleagues who couldn't stand Su Yin's fiery temper also took the opportunity to criticize her.

Su Yin was furious and snorted coldly at Yu Bai, "Just wait and see, once I get the interview, you'll be my defeated opponent."

After saying that, she left in anger.

Yu Bai looked up at Su Yin's aggressive back and smiled helplessly. She didn't know why Su Yin liked to compare herself to her so much. Although they were competitors, there was no need to treat her like a mortal enemy.

Su Yin also has her own strengths. For example, her interview style is as sharp and incisive as she is, and she can sometimes dig up unexpected news. Her reports are also often incisive and address the issues directly. To be fair, Yu Bai admires her and even hopes to cooperate with her.

Yu Bai gently shook his head, stopped thinking about it, and continued to focus on his work.

After seeing the video of the blind path being blocked, Yu Bai immediately decided to use it as the news topic.

The video showed an elderly man using a guide cane, carefully walking on the tactile paving. But after only a few steps, he encountered haphazardly parked shared bicycles. Yu Bai's eyes welled up with tears. How helpless this old man must have felt, and how thousands of disabled people like him had no guarantee of their right to travel.

The problem of blind paths being illegally blocked is a long-standing issue with many causes, including unreasonable urban planning, a lack of public awareness of respect for blind paths, and legal loopholes. However, the most important reason is the lack of attention from the government.

Centering on the chaotic state of blind paths, focusing on my country's vast and neglected vulnerable population, and extending to the issue of barrier-free infrastructure construction across the entire country, Yu Bai had an initial idea in mind.

After get off work, Yu Bai conducted an on-site inspection of the construction of tactile paving in the southern part of the city and found the same problem: vehicles parked haphazardly, even blocking an entire tactile paving path, completely turning it into a parking spot!

Yu Bai felt a surge of anger, but upon reflection, he realized that he had never noticed the so-called tactile paving for the blind when walking on the street before, and he couldn't help but reflect on himself.

After calming down and observing, she discovered that the lack of clear signs on the tactile paving was also a significant reason for the problem.

Riding his electric scooter, Yu Bai spent several hours investigating and summarized several problems. The most common issue was that the tactile paving was not only inconvenient for blind people but also created obstacles, potentially causing falls and injuries. Other problems included poor design, sudden interruptions, and awkward turns. Maintenance was also inadequate; some tactile paving stones were damaged but not repaired, and were already occupied.

By the time the inspection ended, it was already past 10 p.m.

She wanted to ride her bike home, but found that the battery was dead. Extremely unlucky, Yu Bai had no choice but to push the bike and park it in a safe place for the time being. She tried to take a taxi home, but this place was remote and it was difficult to get a taxi.

To make matters worse, a torrential downpour began.

Yu Bai hadn't brought an umbrella, so she took off her coat and covered her head with it. The rain was pouring down, and she was quickly soaked through. Her hair was wet and stuck to her ears, and her vision was blurry. She stood on the street, looking utterly disheveled.

A black Porsche sped past, splashing rainwater onto Yu Bai unexpectedly. Yu Bai was annoyed, but kept telling himself to calm down. He was already soaked, so it was okay.

But that damn car turned around and stopped in front of Yu Bai.

The car window rolled down, and a fine drizzle drifted into the car, revealing Jiang Jizhou's face to Yu Bai.

He looked like he had just returned from a banquet, dressed in a suit, his handsome face slightly flushed, his peach blossom eyes slightly tipsy, and he reeked of alcohol. He looked at Yu Bai, his voice slightly hoarse and drunk, "Bai Bai, what are you doing here?"

Yu Bai was in a bad mood; he had just been soaked by him.

"None of your business."

She looked rather disheveled, soaked to the bone, with an electric scooter with no power beside her, while Jiang Jizhou was dressed in a suit and tie, sitting in a luxury car.

Yu Bai felt that today was really unlucky.

Jiang Jizhou smiled, "Why didn't your boyfriend come to pick you up?"

Yu Bai ignored him, her eyes stinging.

Jiang Jizhou said calmly, "Get in the car."

"Jiang Jizhou, can you stay away from me?" Yu Bai looked up at him coldly.

Raindrops pattered on Jiang Jizhou's face, damp and cool, but he still looked at Yu Bai patiently, "Listen to me, I'll take you back."

The rain was getting heavier, and before he could get a taxi, Yu Bai considered the current situation in his mind. Taking Jiang Jizhou's car was undoubtedly the wise thing to do at the moment.

She opened the back door and got in. She leaned against the window, huddled in a corner, and kept her distance from Jiang Jizhou.

Where do you live?

Mingxi Residential Area.

"Um."

After the conversation ended, Yu Bai remained silent, only to realize that the driver was Uncle Wang, the same driver who had taken her and Jiang Jizhou to school in high school.

Uncle Wang still remembers her.

"Bai Bai, when are you going back to work in Nancheng?"

Yu Bai smiled. "Not many months."

"It's been years since I last saw you, you've grown into beautiful young women." Uncle Wang said with some emotion, "I still remember when you were high school students, and now you've reached the age of settling down and starting a family."

Upon hearing this, Yu Bai felt a moment of disorientation. Time flies, and they were no longer young. The next second, she noticed Jiang Jizhou gazing at her tenderly and attentively. Yu Bai snorted softly and turned her face away.

Jiang Jizhou loosened his tie, his face flushed. He was probably really drunk. Yu Bai in front of him seemed to have turned into the image of her in high school, a fair-skinned, timid lop-eared rabbit.

But her disgusted look and the way she turned her face away instantly brought Jiang Jizhou to his senses; she had grown into a rabbit that could bite.

Jiang Jizhou smiled wryly and pulled out an unopened towel from the car for Yu Bai, saying, "Wipe yourself."

Yu Bai's hair was still dripping water. She took the towel expressionlessly and wiped her face and hair.

Jiang Jizhou felt hot all over, so he took off his suit jacket and draped it aside. Yu Bai finished using the towel and threw the wet towel on him.

Jiang Jizhou smiled, put the towel to his lips and sniffed it; the scent of her hair still lingered.

Seeing this, Yu Bai blushed and gritted her teeth, cursing him, "Pervert."

Jiang Jizhou wasn't annoyed. He carefully folded the towel as if it were a precious treasure and placed it on his suit jacket.

"I'll have someone bring your electric scooter back tomorrow," he said to Yu Bai.

"No need," Yu Bai said coldly.

"it takes."

Jiang Jizhou forced a smile, the alcohol taking effect. He narrowed his eyes and tried to get closer to Yu Bai, but Yu Bai immediately glared at him as if facing a formidable enemy, saying, "Jiang Jizhou, stay away from me."

Jiang Jizhou lowered his eyes, his long, raven-feather-like eyelashes trembling slightly. His flushed face added to his sex appeal. A hurt and vulnerable look flashed in his eyes because of Yu Bai's words, making the already handsome man even more charming, but Yu Bai ignored him.

"Why won't you accept my interview?" Jiang Jizhou asked, feeling wronged.

"You know perfectly well what I'm asking," Yu Bai said calmly. "If you keep doing this, I'm getting off the bus."

Jiang Jizhou's heart, numbed by alcohol, was now stinging. He leaned back in his chair, drunk and dizzy, unable to think straight, only able to think of Yu Bai.

Those countless drunken moments when he could only see her in his dreams, but now she was right beside him. What more could he possibly want? Jiang Jizhou twitched the corners of his lips and stopped getting closer to Yu Bai.

The journey wasn't long, and it was quiet all the way. Jiang Jizhou greedily hoped the car could go on forever so he could sit with Yu Bai forever. But twenty minutes later, they arrived at Mingxi Residential Area.

The rain had stopped, and Yu Bai got out of the car without looking back, not even glancing at Jiang Jizhou.

"Jizhou, did you have a falling out with Bai Bai?" Uncle Wang, who hadn't spoken until now, finally asked.

Jiang Jizhou smiled bitterly. If only it were just a simple conflict. He had personally severed Yu Bai's love for him in the worst way, and now he was going back like a dog, begging her to love him.

He suddenly had a strong urge to smoke.
