Chapter 282 Observing the Chess in Silence

The Xiaoling Sect's defenses consist of four layers: the outermost protective array, a minefield filled with talismans, a poisonous area planted with various poisonous plants, and finally, a patrol team composed of the sect's disciples.

Talismans and spiritual plants can be avoided with personal vigilance, and the patrol team can be reached by scanning faces. Now, with this sect token, Ji Mofan can truly feel like he's returning home when he wants to join the Xiaoling Sect.

It should be noted that the library here contains almost all the documents in the cultivation world. If you can't find what you're looking for here, it's very likely that it has already been taken to the grave by the dead.

Ji Mofan tossed the small, unidentified sign in his hand up and down. "Thank you."

He didn't believe that Li Jinchu hadn't noticed that his focus had always been on the Supreme Venerable Qu Jin.

I was worried that it would be abrupt to ask, but Li Jinchu gave me such a good way out.

Since this sign doesn't allow him to enter and exit all places, surely he should at least check the location of the restricted area first.

Ji Mofan's understanding of formations is not exhaustive, but breaking a sect-protecting formation is not impossible, provided he has enough time and an inexhaustible reserve of spiritual energy.

Therefore, he could tell that the token Li Jinchu gave him did not have any restrictions on the restricted area.

He can move freely in any corner as long as he is within the range of the sect's protective formation.

The most likely explanation is that this restriction was added by Li Jinchu on the spot, in order to allow him to naturally ask the following questions.

The evidence was that while the disciples around him were discussing various topics enthusiastically, none of them paid attention to the small plaque in his hand.

This thing is probably not used often; even the sect's own disciples might not recognize what a sect token is.

So what are its effects and limitations? It's all up to Li Jinchu to make up whatever he wants.

In any case, no one can verify its authenticity except for the person who owns it.

As for whether Jimo Fan, as the holder, should verify this...

Standing in front of this artificially constructed rockery, Ji Mofan took a deep breath.

That's definitely necessary.

The Hall of the Supreme Venerable One sits atop an artificial hill. This hill was not formed naturally, but rather soil dug out when excavating the nearby lotus pond, which was then left in place as part of the landscape.

From afar, it appears ethereal and shrouded in mist, with pavilions, towers, terraces, corridors, and boats—it may not look extravagant, but anyone who has overseen architectural projects can immediately tell that the manpower and resources required to create something like this are unimaginable.

Every single piece is an exquisite object that requires immense effort to craft.

On one hand, this is the Xiaoling Sect proving its wealth and power, but on the other hand...

Having lived for a thousand years, how could Qu Jin not see that these houses, which do not have many precious decorations on the surface, are actually piles of gold and silver?

It was quite incongruous with his refined and otherworldly appearance.

Li Jinchu had already left to attend to her own business, and she really felt at ease leaving Ji Mofan alone to wander around the Xiaoling Sect.

Normally, during the rest period, disciples of the Xiaoling Sect would wander around the entire mountain, but as Ji Mofan walked, the closer he got to the Supreme Venerable Hall, the fewer people there were.

When they arrived at the door, there wasn't even a trace of them left.

At this moment, only the chirping of birds and insects could be heard all around, so quiet that it seemed as if no one lived there.

Ji Mofan originally just wanted to pretend to be passing by, take a detour, and then go back first.

Unexpectedly, he stayed for less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn. Just as he was looking down at the fish swimming in the pond, his divine sense suddenly detected someone approaching.

It wasn't an emergency; they were still standing at someone's doorstep, so Ji Mofan didn't spread his divine sense too far.

The moment he sensed it, a second shadow, besides his, appeared reflected in the shimmering pool.

"Immortal Master, our Venerable One invites you to come inside for an audience." The young boy, dressed in pure black robes and emanating no spiritual energy, bowed to Ji Mofan.

Ji Mofan sized up the child in front of him, then glanced back at the way he had come.

They came all the way from the direction of the palace gate, which wasn't a short distance. This little boy, who had no spiritual power at all, was quite strong, and he walked all the way without even panting.

"Thank you for informing me. Please show me the way." Not knowing why Qu Jin would take the initiative to approach him, who was lingering nearby, Ji Mo Fan nodded to the child in front of him.

Stepping across the stone path strewn with petals, a scene unfolds behind peach trees, revealing a hidden paradise. Inside the pavilion, stone tables and chairs are arranged. A hermit leans against the edge of the table, his black hair flowing like a waterfall, his outer robe casually draped over his shoulders. He stares intently at the chessboard on the table, a black piece between his jade-like fingertips, undecided.

The boy led Ji Mofan through the moon gate and then left. He walked through the last section of stone path by himself, his shoe tips crushing the fallen petals.

It's already December, but the temperature here feels like springtime, and even the peach blossoms are blooming so vibrantly.

Ji Mofan's footsteps were very light. After walking over, he stood at the bottom of the steps without making a sound, simply observing the Supreme Venerable before him.

"Clatter".

The black piece lands on the board.

"Why aren't you saying anything now that you're here?" As if he was so engrossed in the game of chess that the sound of a piece being placed startled him back to his senses, Qu Jin glanced at Ji Mo Fan while reaching into the box to retrieve a new chess piece.

"Observe the game without speaking," Ji Mofan replied calmly.

Seemingly finding Ji Mofan's attitude intriguing, Qu Jin smiled and beckoned him into the pavilion. "It's alright whether you speak or not; there's no one else here. Come and see how Bai Zi will break this deadlock."
