Nan Xun had been secretly watching Ji Mo Fan for an unknown amount of time, and his gaze was no longer as sharp and overt as it had been during the Dao Asking Conference, where he seemed intent on attracting Ji Mo Fan's attention. Now, he was so reserved that Ji Mo Fan didn't even notice him.
The eye contact lasted for half a second before Nanxun looked away.
Zhou Hengyu tried to persuade Qi Fengyu a few more times, but the latter still seemed unable to accept that Ji Mofan had left Yun Cang Sword Sect, and her emotions gradually became out of control.
"Young Sect Master, please calm down." Ji Mo Fan interrupted his performance. "I heard from Elder Shen that you have already switched to the Path of Ruthlessness, haven't you?"
"Why are you still so easily swayed by petty romantic feelings?"
Qi Fengyu suddenly fell silent.
He did indeed switch to the Path of Ruthlessness in order to balance out the feelings he shouldn't have had for Ji Mofan that he had in this timeline before his rebirth.
The problem is that what he just said was all an act; it wasn't a genuine expression of emotion at all.
Seeing Qi Fengyu remain silent, Ji Mofan didn't press him any further.
I said that simply because I didn't want to see his disgusting acting and wanted to stop him from continuing his antics.
"Everyone has come here today specifically to ask you whether you went to see Sect Master Qi Yuan before you left the sect." He got to the point.
Qi Fengyu blinked her innocent eyes, looking pitiful with her teary eyes, "Senior Brother, you used to call me Xiaoyu."
Ji Mofan felt disgusted again. "Don't change the subject."
If he continued to provoke him, Ji Mofan might actually want to kill him. Qi Fengyu decided to stop while he was ahead. "Sect Master Father? I don't know him. I haven't seen him since that Dao Couple Ceremony."
“Lying.” This time it was Peng Ruo who spoke. “I could clearly smell your scent on him. Even if it had nothing to do with you, you must have gone to see him that day. It’s not good for a child to lie.”
Qi Fengyu's voice suddenly choked. He glanced hesitantly at the people in the room, and finally focused his gaze on Zhou Hengyu, the only one who might be on his side.
“Elder Zhou, you watched me grow up, you know I wouldn’t do that, right?” He tugged at Zhou Hengyu’s sleeve.
“Young Sect Master, this is just a routine inquiry.” Zhou Hengyu didn’t know what else to say, as the situation was getting increasingly murky. “Master Peng Ruo must have his reasons for saying this.”
Qi Fengyu bit her lip, looking very conflicted.
"Before I left the sect that day, I did go to see my sect leader father." He hesitated before speaking, "because I had never gone down the mountain alone before, and I was feeling uneasy, so I wanted to go to him for some advice and reassurance."
"I only took some resources from him. He was fine when I left. Whatever happened to him has nothing to do with me!" He was like a child afraid of being wronged, with tears welling up in his eyes, begging Zhou Hengyu to clear his name.
Zhou Hengyu was already feeling soft-hearted.
However, before he could speak, Ji Mofan's words brought Qi Fengyu back to reality.
“We’ve been here for a while now, and we haven’t mentioned what happened yet, have we?” he said. “I only asked you if you went to look for the sect leader. How can you be so sure something happened to him?”
Qi Fengyu's pitiful act crumbled for a moment.
She quickly regained her composure, and a single tear finally slid down her cheek, glistening on her chin. Her other eye was still brimming with tears, shimmering and sparkling.
I felt extremely sorry for her.
"I wasn't actually in a deep sleep while I was drowsy; I could occasionally hear people talking around my bed." Qi Fengyu didn't even blink before finding a plausible excuse.
After all, Zhou Hengyu wasn't always by his bedside, so he had no idea when or what someone said to him.
Seeing that Zhou Hengyu had clearly been fooled by him, Qi Fengyu turned her pitiful gaze to Ji Mofan, "Senior Brother, how could you doubt me for such a simple reason?"
"I'm so sad."
"Then you dare to say that you entrusted my junior brother to search for Gu worms for you in the Dark Mist Secret Realm a few days ago? That's not true either?" Ji Mo Fan said.
"What Gu worm?" Qi Fengyu blinked her innocent eyes again. "Oh, right, I did ask Junior Brother Li for help, but he never came to find me afterward, so I thought he forgot or couldn't find it."
"But, that's actually a Gu worm?" He covered his mouth as if he was startled. "I just happened to get a treasure map of the Misty Secret Realm, but I didn't have the chance to go there to train. My junior brother Li volunteered, so I gave him the treasure map."
"I really have no idea what the treasure map points to!"
His words were so sincere and heartfelt, and he even managed to squeeze out a few tears as evidence, which made people's hearts melt.
"Chief of Jimo, I wonder if there's some misunderstanding here..." Zhou Hengyu felt a little sorry for them and took half a step between them to try to mediate.
“I have a confession signed by my junior brother as proof,” Ji Mo Fan said, shaking his head.
The disappointment in his eyes seemed genuine; he took out a thin piece of paper with his complaint.
The densely packed confession all came from Li Geyue's mouth, and there was even his thumbprint in the corner.
Qi Fengyu's tears were caught in her throat.
Zhou Hengyu was also surprised. He subconsciously stepped forward to look at the contents of the paper in Ji Mofan's hand.
He was shocked when he saw it. This was not a confession from Li Geyue. It was clearly a huge mudslinging attack on the Yun Cang Sword Sect!
He cursed himself and everyone he had ever interacted with, believing that everyone he knew had ulterior motives and that he used the worst possible assumptions to judge others' intentions.
Zhou Hengyu even saw the part where he was scolded, saying that every time it was his turn, he would always reduce the usage time of the spiritual spring, definitely trying to squeeze it out of him to subsidize his own disciples.
Zhou Hengyu was almost spitting blood. Heaven knows, he was always so busy that he couldn't possibly keep an eye on whether anyone was using the spiritual spring beyond the allotted time.
Occasionally visiting the site does remind users of time limits, but when has he ever left after finishing his sentence? Even if that person deliberately lingers inside, when has he ever made a big deal out of it?
“This…” Zhou Hengyu pointed at the complaint, unable to speak for a moment.
“This was given to me by Young Master Li,” Ji Mofan said. “Young Master Li is unsure if there are any related issues within the Yun Cang Sword Sect, so he entrusted this to me to handle.”
