Chapter 398 Sending Your Head Under the Guillotine

Having said what he needed to say and given what he needed to give, the demon soldier quickly bowed and left Wu Qi's study.

"What can you tell?" Wu Qi asked Ji Mofan.

The latter gently smoothed out the Xuan paper in front of him, “Six feet three inches tall, male, around forty years old, walks with a slight pigeon-toed gait.”

"With dual wood and fire spiritual roots, he probably has an irregular sleep schedule, no hobbies other than refining gu, and little interaction with others. He's the type who would die at home and only be discovered when his body smokes the fumes."

"As for the others, one footprint doesn't reveal much, but if there were more traces, we should be able to analyze other information."

Wu Qi didn't show any other expression when he heard him say the first sentence.

It's not surprising that you can see these things; anyone who has investigated one or two cases would be able to analyze them.

But the second one is a bit outrageous. This level of profiling is something that can be seen from a shoe print.

For a moment, Wu Qi even suspected that Ji Mofan might be making things up, or that he might actually know what the real person behind the scenes was, and was therefore deduce the process based on the result.

However, this thought only lasted for a moment before he immediately dismissed it.

Ji Mofan's personality is not that of someone capable of doing such a thing.

It's neither reasonable nor logical; what benefit would he gain from lying?

Could it be that this chaotic scene is orchestrated by Ji Mofan alone, with the aim of elevating his status in both realms?

If he wanted to make his name known throughout both realms, he should have just smoothly completed the Daoist Couple Ceremony and been a good Demon Queen.

Why bother going through all that trouble and causing all this more problems later?

To reiterate, this is not something Jimo Fan would do.

"I suppose all other traces have been completely erased, right?" Wu Qi suppressed his thoughts and continued, picking up where Ji Mo Fan left off. "My demon soldiers are a bit slow, but they're not so slow that they can't even do such a simple task of gathering evidence. It can only mean that the evidence has been covered up as well."

Ji Mofan pushed the paper towards Wu Qi, "Do you recognize the pattern on the sole of the shoe?"

Wu Qi shook his head. "This is not military supplies, nor is it something sold by one of the larger shoe stores in the border town."

Ji Mo Fan frowned.

For some reason, Wu Qi suddenly felt an urge to smooth out the brow of his forehead.

He coughed. "He finally showed up once, and you just let him go like that? When do you think he'll show up again?"

“If the Demon Realm doesn’t take action against the cultivation world, it will definitely be unable to hold back and make its move first,” Ji Mofan said. “Right now, it’s the people hiding in the shadows who should be anxious, not us.”

Neither of them had considered the possibility that the person would not reappear.

It would take more than a day to raise enough of these Blood Infant Gu to be able to bewitch a large number of demon soldiers.

Having incurred such a large sunk cost, there's no reason to give up quietly now.

As the conversation reached this point, a maid from the city lord's mansion greeted them from outside. Wu Qi let them in, and the maid, with her head bowed, brought over two bowls of soup.

The maid didn't say much, put the things down, and prepared to leave.

"Wait a minute." Ji Mofan suddenly called out to the person.

The maid stopped in her tracks, turning back to look at Ji Mo Fan with a hint of confusion. "Your Majesty, is there anything else you require?"

Ji Mofan's gaze was originally fixed on the bowl of soup in front of him, but now he slowly lifted his eyelids and carefully examined the maid in front of him from head to toe.

"General, it seems like something else has infiltrated your city lord's mansion," he blurted out.

Wu Qi didn't take it seriously at first, but when Ji Mofan spoke, he noticed something was off. Now, upon hearing this, he immediately took action and used his demonic aura to press the maid who came in to deliver the soup to the ground.

The maid tried to run away, but she was forced down hard before she could even take a step. She almost broke her raised leg.

"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!" She lay on the ground, crying out in pain. "General, I am Zhao Zhao! More than twenty years ago, I was almost sold by my heartless mother-in-law. I happened to run into you on your inspection tour, and I just happened to bump into you and beg you to buy me. Since then, Zhao Zhao has been loyal to you. How can you doubt me!"

Wu Qi chuckled softly, but looking at him, you could see that his eyes were completely expressionless, without a trace of amusement.

"Trying to fool me with a disguise mask? You're trying to teach a fish to swim, do you even know that?" he said.

The woman who insisted she was Zhaozhao's maid froze.

Wu Qi flicked his finger in mid-air, and a wisp of demonic energy shot towards the maid's face.

A crack instantly appeared on Zhao Zhao's face, starting from between her eyebrows and spreading across her entire face. The large crack extended into smaller cracks, until finally her entire face looked like a shattered eggshell, with small pieces falling to the ground.

Ji Mo Fan raised an eyebrow.

To be honest... this person is so audacious, he's really throwing his head under the guillotine.

Wu Qi is a weapon refiner, and he has a special sensitivity to the products he refines. If he used a potion to blur his former appearance, he might be able to deceive everyone.

However, the disguise mask is essentially a product of weapon crafting.

"What's your name? What's your purpose in sneaking in?" Wu Qi didn't waste any words with him and went straight to the point.

"Zhaozhao" was held on the ground without making a sound.

"Where is the original Zhaozhao from the City Lord's Mansion?" Wu Qi asked again.

The person on the ground remained silent, barely even breathing.
