Li Geyue was almost bursting with anger, but she managed to suppress her rage and force herself to calm down for Qi Fengyu's sake. She reluctantly bowed her head and clasped her hands in a muffled voice, making a gesture towards the door.
"Li Geyue requests an audience with his senior brother."
"Enter."
The child walked in with a resentful look on his face and shoved a handful of things into Ji Mofan's arms.
"This is what my master asked me to bring to you. He told you to make sure you bring back the Azure Phoenix Demon Core for Xiaoyu," he said.
Wow? So generous?
Ji Mo Fan opened the bundle and looked through it.
This didn't happen in his previous life; he went straight down the mountain after leaving Qi Fengyu's room.
It seems that Shen Yun was genuinely worried that he would die in the secret realm.
However, I'm probably a little worried, otherwise why not just let him recuperate at the sect? Why make him go out on some mission?
Li Geyue stood to the side, clenching his fists tightly. Seeing that Ji Mofan didn't say anything and calmly put the items into his Qiankun bag, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Ji Mofan glanced at his performance out of the corner of his eye and could only sigh at how heartless he must have been in his past life, that even someone as skilled as Li Geyue could be completely outmaneuvered by him.
The bundle contained a few talismans and some medicinal herbs, which were very cheap.
If it were Ji Mo Fan from his previous life, he wouldn't have thought too much when he received it. He would have just felt that his master trusted his abilities and that's why he was only given the minimum supplies.
There was no doubt that Li Geyue had switched the contents, and that the truly useful items had all gone into Qi Fengyu's pocket.
"Understood. I'll go thank Master in a bit."
Seeing Li Geyue's sudden change in expression after hearing his words, Ji Mofan felt a little better.
Before he could stop her, the light-colored figure flashed past him.
"Hey! Wait a minute!" Li Geyue felt that her senior brother was acting strangely in every way today, and the sense of incongruity reached its peak when she saw him step out of the room.
What did he see? The eldest brother actually took out his most treasured garment and put it on?
The indoor lighting was poor earlier, and Li Geyue hadn't even noticed what he was wearing. Now, seeing the warm light shining on the clothes, she noticed the shimmering, subtle patterns on them.
Is today some big day?
Before he knew it, Li Geyue had fallen behind Ji Mofan. By the time he came to his senses, Ji Mofan had already flown far away on his sword.
He gritted his teeth, lifted his leg, and followed.
*
Flying on a sword is prohibited within the inner sect of the Yuncang Sword Sect, but this rule does not apply to disciples of the rank of elder or above.
The chief disciple is above the elder in rank.
Li Geyue was merely a true disciple. Once inside the inner sect, if he wanted to travel quickly, he could only use his lightness skill to run.
When he finally arrived at the sect's main hall, he saw that Ji Mofan was already talking to Shen Yun.
The bundle he had just taken was now spread out on the table in front of the two of them, and everything inside was on full display.
Li Geyue's face immediately turned from a slightly sweaty red to white.
"Ge Yue, is this how you send things to your senior brother?" Shen Yun said coldly, slapping the armrest of his chair.
Li Geyue was still a child, and when she was frightened by her elders, she didn't know what to do. So she just told them everything in detail.
"Master, I thought those things would be good for Xiaoyu's illness, so I..."
Upon hearing Qi Fengyu's name, Shen Yun's expression relaxed slightly, no longer as fierce as before.
"It's good that you care about Xiaoyu, but you shouldn't have touched your senior brother's things." He picked up his teacup and took a sip of tea, clearly intending to let the matter drop.
It's always the same; whenever Qi Fengyu is involved, all the benefits will naturally fall on his head.
Blatant favoritism, without any pretense.
Shen Yun wasn't worried about Ji Mofan's objections, since that's how it's always been done before.
Often, without him even having to say a word, Ji Mofan would willingly take a loss to help Qi Fengyu.
“Junior brother is young and cannot distinguish between what is important and what is urgent, so I will not blame him.” Ji Mofan interrupted Shen Yun before he could speak his next sentence.
Both of their eyes were immediately drawn to him.
“Those elixirs and talismans are indeed beneficial to Xiaoyu, but what’s more important now is the Azure Phoenix Demon Core in the Eclipse Secret Realm.” Ji Mofan didn’t react to their different gazes and continued to speak, “My injury is a small matter, but if the search for the demon core is delayed because of me, that would be a big deal.”
If it were Ji Mo Fan from his previous life, he probably would have remained silent.
After all, no matter how difficult his missions were, he had never asked the sect for a single needle or thread.
On the contrary, he handed over all his earnings from his trips without reservation. As long as his master and fellow disciples could give him some praise, he would gladly endure the hardships and toil.
But times have changed, and Ji Mo Fan is no longer willing to be a submissive and humble person.
Praise from others? It's just empty fame, what does it matter?
Real, tangible benefits are what truly matter.
Besides, this is what he deserves; he hasn't wronged anyone at all.
*
Carrying the spiritual herbs and talismans he had retrieved from Qi Fengyu in his bundle, Ji Mofan mounted his sword and transformed into a streak of blue light, disappearing in the direction of the descent.
Touching his Qiankun bag, Ji Mo Fan felt quite pleased.
Although Qi Fengyu had taken a lot of things from me under various pretexts before, what I'm getting back this time is just a drop in the ocean.
However, recalling the expression on his face earlier—clearly unhappy but forcing a smile—Ji Mofan felt that his extra words were not a waste.
