Fang Xian reached out and pulled Ji Mofan out of his Qiankun bag.
"I'll find it for you, I'll find it for you, okay?" He sighed deeply like an old father.
He really shouldn't get a Daoist partner and have children anymore; Ji Mo Fan alone is enough to annoy him.
Xu Jingwen, standing to the side, was at a loss for what expression to make.
Are these two really that close in private?
So why did the rumors in the cultivation world change like that?
Ji Mofan had no idea what strange and convoluted thoughts were going on in their minds. He simply took the calming talisman and squatted down to stick it on the black-robed man on the ground.
His body was covered in talismans, and with his disheveled appearance, he looked a bit like a zombie that had just been dug out of the ground.
Ji Mofan cast several spells, using the characteristics of his ice spirit root to quickly cool down his feverish body.
“Sometimes I think you’re pretty cold,” Fang Xuan said, tilting her head as she watched his movements. “But sometimes I find you can be incredibly warm to strangers.”
"Is this the Ice Spirit Root? How strange."
Would that be strange?
Ji Mo Fan didn't focus on answering his question. Instead, he placed his hand on the black-robed man's left hand and channeled a thin strand of his spiritual energy into his meridians.
He had hesitated before standing up for someone.
The man in black robes had no connection with him, while Xu Jingwen was not only quite powerful but also held a significant position within the Xiaoling Sect. His sudden appearance was bound to cause offense.
But the tragic image of that village from his previous life kept flashing through his mind.
The towering flames, the indistinguishable cries of men, women, and children, and the rusty smell of blood—all these sensations seemed to vividly stimulate his senses, causing his heart to pound uncontrollably.
...Why did he embark on the path of cultivation in the first place?
Was it because Shen Yun took him in and taught him martial arts that he obeyed Shen Yun's orders out of gratitude?
No.
What he wanted was to be a man with a sword, protecting the peace of all directions.
As a child, he had fought with wild dogs for food, and when he was extremely hungry, he had even eaten human flesh. Therefore, after gaining power, Ji Mo Fan's first reaction was to prevent the world from living in the same misery he had once endured.
He has experienced hardship and knows how hard it is, so he doesn't want others to suffer as well.
Too many things since his rebirth have made him obsessed with other things, almost causing him to lose sight of his Dao heart.
Now, by some twist of fate, they've been brought back.
Moreover, it was only when he thought of this that he also remembered something that he probably hadn't really taken to heart from beginning to end.
It seems that Xu Jingwen gradually disappeared from the cultivation world after his trip to the Misty Realm in his previous life.
Ji Mofan was unaware of the affairs of the Xiaoling Sect, as he was already extremely busy with his own sect.
All he knew was that when the Dao Asking Conference was held next year, the chief disciple of the Xiaoling Sect would be Li Jinchu, the eldest son of the Li family.
So he also encountered the man in black robes in the secret realm back then? Was he so badly injured by the man in black robes who was trapped in inner demons and karmic obstacles that he never recovered?
He couldn't figure it out, but by the time Ji Mofan snapped out of his reverie, the black-robed man's incessant chatter had finally quieted down.
The confusion in his pupils slowly faded, and he blinked his half-closed eyes, raising his head somewhat blankly.
"...What happened to me just now?" the man in black asked hesitantly.
“You were almost consumed by your inner demons.” Ji Mofan released his grip on his wrist, stood up, and dusted off his robes.
The man in black robes still looked somewhat bewildered. When he glanced up and saw Xu Jingwen behind Ji Mofan, his once clear eyes immediately became bloodshot again.
"What have you done to my fellow disciples?!" He was about to charge forward again with his sword, but Ji Mofan chopped his forearm with a hand blade.
The man in black cried out in pain as his sword clattered to the ground.
“Your heart meridian is damaged, and you won’t be able to circulate your spiritual energy smoothly for a short time.” Ji Mofan put his hand down. “Don’t push yourself. Tear up the teleportation talisman and get out.”
He understood the black-robed man's resentment, but he no longer easily empathized with others.
Ji Mofan, in particular, clearly remembered his past life of burning, killing, and looting in mortal villages.
"I won't leave! I can't quell my hatred without killing him!" The man in black robes was still quite agitated, and despite being powerless, he wanted to keep charging forward.
Then Fang Xian grabbed him by the back of the neck.
It could only hang in mid-air, raging helplessly.
“I didn’t harm your companions.” Xu Jingwen smirked.
The man in black robes froze in place. "What did you say?"
“We are not demonic cultivators. Harming innocent people for no reason will only accumulate unnecessary karma on our cultivation path.” Seeing that he could finally communicate normally, Xu Jingwen shrugged and said a long string of words.
"I was just bluffing you to make you reveal a weakness. Although your companions were injured by the Arcane Qilin's claws, they were all safely teleported out of the Dark Aura Realm."
"You're lying. They certainly wouldn't abandon me and leave on their own." The man in black robes looked at him with distrust.
“I didn’t.” Xu Jingwen looked somewhat helpless. “They really wouldn’t leave easily. They insisted on leaving one of their most agile companions to come and deliver the message to you. In the end, I tore up my own teleportation talisman to send the remaining person out.”
Upon hearing this, the man in black robes fell silent, still clinging to Fang Xian's hand.
