Chapter 72

Chapter 72

"Your mission is almost complete."

What mission? Chu Xianyue had almost forgotten about that incident. He needed to make Xie Wen fall in love with him in order to achieve the Great Dao and ascend to godhood.

But now he no longer wants to achieve any great path.

He had gotten what he wanted. Living out his life with her in this bamboo house was perfectly fine. This was what he wanted.

Ascension and the Great Dao have now become shackles that weigh him down.

Blood Bead continued, "The mission is 99% complete; we're just one step away from ascending to godhood. But after you ascend, can I follow Awen? I don't want to follow you. Let me put it this way: even if you force me, I won't follow you. I'd rather die than leave Awen!"

Chu Xianyue frowned and said coldly, "When did I ever say I would leave her?"

Upon hearing this, the blood bead's red light trembled. It asked in surprise, "You don't want to ascend anymore? Isn't that what you've been pursuing your whole life? Are you kidding me?"

Chu Xianyue: "I'm not joking. I will always stay by her side. I will never, ever leave. What I've been pursuing all my life is right there, right in front of me. Why would I leave?"

Chu Xianyue's gaze fell upon the face of the person lying asleep on the bed, and firelight rose in his eyes. "I give up. I will not ascend."

Blood Bead seemed to have heard a joke. "What do you think ascension is? Is it something you can ascend whenever you want and not ascend whenever you don't want to? You have no choice. Once your favorability reaches 100%, you will naturally leave."

"Don't worry, once you ascend, the ties of the mortal world will naturally dissipate. You will be reborn, have a new life, and become a god among the Golden Immortals, immortal and indestructible for eternity. At that time, you will understand that all the love and affection in this world is nothing but fleeting smoke. Nothing lasts forever. You will forget Awen and completely put her behind you. Go live your immortal life."

Chu Xianyue's heart pounded uncontrollably as the words fell, his chest feeling as if a stone was weighing him down—a deep-seated fear. He had never been so afraid before.

"Shut up! I won't forget. I won't leave her."

The blood droplet hanging in the air was suddenly slapped to the ground by Chu Xianyue, making a crisp clanging sound. The fall left Honghong'er dizzy and disoriented. Before she could react, she heard Chu Xianyue's eerie voice, like a ghost's whisper, reaching her ears.

"Does destroying you mean I can't ascend?"

It fell to the ground, looked up, and gazed at Chu Xianyue from below. The candlelight illuminated half of his face, but even this warmth couldn't melt away the slightest bit of coldness between his brows. Honghong suddenly felt a chill, somewhat regretting what she had just done to provoke him.

He's a madman.

The once-shiny blood droplet, now stained with dust and somewhat disheveled, floated back to the surface. Its voice was noticeably less arrogant than before; it dared not further provoke Chu Xianyue, for it knew he might truly kill it. It said, "Whether you ascend or not is not my decision. It is the will of Heaven. I am merely an intermediary between you and the Will of Heaven. If you have any objections, go and speak to the Will of Heaven. My opinion has no authority."

Chu Xianyue: "So that means you're in cahoots with the Heavenly Dao? Go tell it, tell it I won't ascend. Never!"

The Blood Bead desperately wanted to play dead; this was the first time in its millennia-long history that it had encountered such a madman as Chu Xianyue. He hadn't heard a single word it had just said. It was merely a servant of the Heavenly Dao; how could the Heavenly Dao possibly listen to it!

Blood Beads wants to kill Chu Xianyue, damn it!

This thought only flashed through his mind. In the current situation, it was highly likely that Chu Xianyue would kill it first. Even if it became a part of him, even if he destroyed it, Chu Xianyue would suffer a severe blow to his vitality or even lose all his cultivation. But as long as he could never be separated from Xie Wen, he didn't care about this injury.

He's capable of anything as long as he doesn't leave Xie Wen.

The blood bead understood Chu Xianyue better than he understood himself. At this moment, it softened and said, "No matter what, it won't matter if you kill me. Heaven won't listen to me. If you really don't want to ascend or leave Awen, then make her stop liking you so much. At least keep her at 99%. That way, you can stay together forever."

After saying that, Xuezhui slunk away while Chu Xianyue was still stunned.

Chu Xianyue sat under the candlelight, his eyes bloodshot, until the candlestick beside him burned out and the candle wax dripped onto the back of his fair hand, spreading out in circles like ripples. He seemed not to notice at all.

The next morning, when Xie Wen woke up, he found that Chu Xianyue was not in a good condition. His eyes were bloodshot, as if he had been crying. He was staring at one spot, seemingly lost in thought.

Xie Wen walked over and touched Chu Xianyue's forehead. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? You didn't sleep a wink last night, did you? Did I say...?"

Before Xie Wen could finish speaking, Chu Xianyue suddenly pulled her close, holding her tightly in his arms, leaving no gap whatsoever, as if he were terrified. Terrified that she would leave, that she would disappear from his sight.

He rested his head against Xie Wen's neck, breathing deeply. Xie Wen was initially startled by his state, but after relaxing, she gently patted Chu Xianyue's back, letting him hold her tightly without moving. "What's wrong? What happened?" Xie Wen asked softly.

There was no response, and Xie Wen didn't press the issue. Her intuition told her that something serious must have caused Chu Xianyue to react so strongly, but he refused to say what it was. Even Xie Wen's usually calm heart started to panic.

After a long while, Chu Xianyue slowly embraced her waist, raised his head, and his face returned to its former calm, as if nothing could shake him. Xie Wen: "?"

He still confessed to Xie Wen. Xie Wen tilted his head and suddenly laughed so hard that his shoulders trembled, like a flower branch swaying in the wind. Even Chu Xianyue, who was holding Xie Wen's waist, moved. Xie Wen said, "Is this why? If I ascend, I won't be able to see you anymore?"

He nodded, and Xie Wen continued, "So, you're worried about this? Worried that they'll leave me?"

Remembering Honghong'er's later words, Chu Xianyue realized he could only make Xie Wen dislike him less, ensuring her favorability didn't reach 100%. He suddenly pushed Xie Wen away, stood up, and his voice turned cold. Xie Wen was puzzled; why did his expression change so quickly? Then he heard Chu Xianyue say coldly, "Don't like me so much. Okay?"

Xie Wen burst out laughing even louder. Even though Chu Xianyue was being so serious, Xie Wen just couldn't help but laugh. This made her feel that Chu Xianyue was a bit narcissistic, even though he didn't mean it that way at all.

Chu Xianyue: "What are you laughing at!"

The more she laughed, the more Chu Xian felt that Xie Wen didn't care about the matter at all. He concluded that she didn't care about him, she didn't care about him. A sudden, inexplicable hatred welled up from the depths of his heart, instantly burning away his reason. He grabbed her head and kissed her deeply, as if biting, refusing to let go no matter how much Xie Wen pushed him away or begged for mercy.

Xie Wen's legs went weak from the kisses, and she couldn't breathe. She clung tightly to his clothes, and he took the opportunity to put his arm around her waist. His eyes were dark and deep as he said seriously, "Don't make fun of me anymore. I'll get angry."

Xie Wen was nearly sucked half her soul away by him. Panting heavily, she punched him hard. "If you really don't want me to like you that much, then stop doing things like this to me!"

As she spoke, she pushed Chu Xianyue away, straightening her disheveled collar and the strands of hair clinging to her face. One second she had just distanced herself from Chu Xianyue, the next he pulled her back, his strong arm tightly gripping Xie Wen's waist. His dangerous eyes scrutinized her, "Doing this kind of thing increases your favorability rating?"

Xie Wen didn't want to answer his question right now, and she had no intention of seriously discussing such a thing with him in broad daylight. She turned her head away, but Chu Xianyue forcefully grabbed her chin, making her look at him. Chu Xianyue lowered his head, very close to hers, their noses touching, their breaths mingling, and he said, "You like it?"

The air around Xie Wen became suffocating, and she felt short of breath again. Helpless, she could only utter a soft "hmm".

"Let go first!" Xie Wen pushed again, and Chu Xianyue slowly released Xie Wen, afraid that she would fall.

Xie Wen was unaware that her face looked incredibly flushed. Chu Xianyue, however, held her hand and said seriously, "Since that's the case, even if we don't do anything, I just need you by my side."

As he spoke, he embraced her, giving her only a light, fleeting kiss on the forehead, seemingly reluctant to part. Chu Xianyue took a deep breath before releasing her.

Xie Wen looked up and said, "I'll try my best to control myself. It's enough if I don't like you that much. Actually, you don't need to be so nice to me."

Chu Xianyue looked at her and said, "How have I been good to you?"

Xie Wen: "You do my laundry, cook for me, wash my feet, buy me gifts, and even tailor new clothes for me late at night."

Chu Xianyue said coldly, "I do the laundry, cook, and wash your feet because you're clumsy and can't do anything right. The gifts I bought for you were just random purchases I made when I went shopping. I sew clothes late at night because I couldn't sleep and wanted to keep myself occupied. Don't think that everything I do is for you. Don't be so narcissistic."

Xie Wen laughed angrily, "Fine, fine, you've successfully angered me. That's it. I've had enough of you."

Chu Xianyue: "Perfect timing, I've been tired of you for a long time! You think I wanted to keep you here!"

At noon, Honghong had prepared lunch early and was waiting for Awen to come over for lunch. After what happened yesterday, Honghong dared not provoke Chu Xianyue again. She behaved herself in front of him, not even glancing at him.

As the three sat around the table in the courtyard for their meal, Honghong noticed something was amiss. Why was Awen sitting so far away from Chu Xianyue today? The two didn't exchange a single word during the meal, and Chu Xianyue stopped serving Awen food. The atmosphere was strangely silent.

Honghong observed the two people and suddenly realized that they seemed to be going through something terrible. They were arguing! She had heard other gods in heaven say that quarrels and disputes were rampant in the human world, a very bad emotion that could devour hearts and was extremely frightening. Among those who quarreled, lovers and spouses argued the most. Constant, incessant arguing could even turn the closest of friends into enemies.

Right now, Chu Xianyue and Awen seem to be going through this very thing, experiencing a terrible argument!

Honghong was on tenterhooks, fearing that the family would fall apart.

However, the expected bloodshed didn't materialize. Instead, Chu Xianyue and Awen were mostly silent, and when they spoke, it sounded like they were arguing. Xie Wen said, "Don't leave your things here! I don't care about the things you bought me! I don't like them at all! They're so tacky and ugly. Also, I don't care if you do my laundry and cook for me. Anyone can do that! Why do you call me clumsy!"

Chu Xianyue also walked over coldly, looking down at Xie Wen. After she finished speaking, he asked, "Are you done?"

Xie Wen stubbornly raised his head and said, "Also, since you can't sleep, you'd better make me some new clothes. I won't spoil you!"

Chu Xianyue said, "Fine, it's my turn to speak. Since you don't want me to kiss you, I'll kiss you anyway. I don't want to see you again either. Do you really think you're so great? That I can't live without you? I'm going to kiss you so that your affection for me will increase quickly, and I can ascend to godhood faster and become my High Priest. And you can only be a tiny ant in the mortal world for the rest of your life! You'll never be able to reach me!"

Hearing the argument, Honghong thought to herself, "Oh no, these two are definitely not going to be able to stay together. They might even start fighting!" But there seemed to be nothing she could do but pace back and forth anxiously.

Then, she saw Chu Xianyue grab Xie Wen's chin and forcefully kiss her lips, biting and rubbing. Honghong'er was even more anxious and thought: It's over, it's over, Chu Xianyue really did it this time, he even bit Wen's lips!

Awen was definitely angry too, and immediately bit back. The two fought fiercely, locked in a fierce battle! What to do, what to do! Honghong was so anxious that she jumped up and down, scratching her head and cheeks, but still couldn't think of any way.

The harsher Chu Xianyue's words were, the deeper his kisses became. He grew increasingly dissatisfied, cupping Xie Wen's face in his hands and kissing him while saying haltingly, "How is it? Are you tempted? This is just a means for me to complete my mission. Only you would be so naive as to actually fall for me."

Xie Wen was panting heavily, partly from his deep kiss, and partly from being utterly enraged by his words. Her chest heaved violently with anger. She truly couldn't tell which of his words were true and which were false.

She bit his lip hard, the taste of blood filling her mouth. Chu Xianyue remained silent, still not letting go of Xie Wen. It seemed he waited until he was satisfied before finally releasing her. Xie Wen took a deep breath, gasping for fresh air. She said, "If you don't let go of me, I'm going to suffocate!"

Chu Xianyue: "I'm going to suffocate you this way, don't you understand yet?"

Xie Wen touched his numb lips, “…”

Seeing the argument getting more and more intense, Honghong suddenly sensed that Xie Wen's favorability towards Chu Xianyue had miraculously dropped to 98%.

It looked at Chu Xianyue again, and then realized, "He did it on purpose? He deliberately created this argument!"

Late at night, Honghong heard intermittent arguing coming from inside the house, accompanied by heavy breathing. Honghong vaguely thought, "This is too loud! They're almost out of breath!" Awen seemed to be crying from anger, and amidst his heavy breathing, the two could be heard exchanging whispered curses and arguments.

Gradually, the argument seemed to escalate, with things being smashed and the bed shaking violently as if it were about to fall apart. Honghong got up and glanced anxiously into the inner room, thinking, "Oh no, they must be fighting on the bed! How intense must it be? The bed is shaking so much. They're both so exhausted they can barely breathe!"

It seemed like they could even hear A-Wen pleading for mercy in a low voice. That beast Chu Xianyue! How dare he treat A-Wen like this! It seems he showed no mercy whatsoever. After all, they were master and disciple; he went too far! He even made A-Wen cry!

Honghong'er wanted to get up several times to protect Awen, but then thought better of it. She had heard a saying in heaven before: "Even a wise judge can't settle family disputes," and "Husbands and wives shouldn't hold grudges overnight; they fight in bed and make up before they get out of bed," all meaning that outsiders shouldn't interfere too much in matters between husband and wife. Although Honghong'er really wanted to help Awen, she couldn't interfere. She could only silently apologize to Awen in her heart and silently pray that Awen would beat that beast Chu Xianyue to death!
