Chapter 294: Dinner

"Are you the wife of the new commander of the Second Battalion of the Second Regiment?"

She looked Xu Nuannuan up and down. This woman was so beautiful.

But it was this woman's man who snatched away her man's chance to be promoted to battalion commander.

Xu Nuannuan noticed the other party's attitude and her tone became much colder: "Well, my name is Xu Nuannuan."

She still had the candy in her hand and was a little reluctant to share it with Zhang Yufeng, but she had already given it to others. If she didn't give it to Zhang Yufeng, she would definitely be criticized by Zhang Yufeng.

Then he handed the candy in his hand to the other person: "We just got married, this is our wedding candy."

Zhang Yufeng had a cold expression on her face. She lowered her eyes to look at the wedding candy in Xu Nuannuan's hand and reached out to take it.

She curled her lip slightly and said to Xu Nuannuan, "My name is Zhang Yufeng. We have something to do at home today, so I won't let you two stay."

"It's okay. We have things to do when we get back. Let's go."

When Jiang Ye came back, they went out again and quickly bought a lot of things.

In the afternoon, Xu Nuannuan and Jiang Ye were cooking at home, and Li Xiu Lian also came to help.

Today they only planned to invite the officers, not the wives of the soldiers. Their house was not big, and they were worried that if the wives brought their children, there wouldn't be enough space for so many people.

Xu Nuannuan planned to get familiar with them here and then treat them to a meal.

In the evening, the first to arrive were Zhang Jianjun and Guan Xingyao. Li Xiu Lian was already there, and Wang Dahai came over as soon as he finished the training. Then came the commander of the second regiment and his wife Bai Jinping.

Bai Jinping was less than forty years old. Perhaps because she had been married to the team leader for a long time, she looked calm, dignified and very friendly. Xu Nuannuan felt very comfortable chatting with her, and they soon became familiar with each other.

The company commander of the second battalion came later. The first to arrive was a young man in his twenties named Zhang Wei. He was quite polite when he met Jiang Ye and Xu Nuannuan, calling them "Battalion Commander" and "Sister-in-law" in a very affectionate way.

The two who came later were also company commanders in the Second Battalion. They looked older than Jiang Ye. One was called Liu Kun and the other was called Ding Jianguo.

These two people were not as polite as Zhang Wei.

Maybe it was because they were older than Jiang Ye, but Xu Nuannuan found that they treated Jiang Ye and herself as if they were juniors. Although their words seemed polite, there was dissatisfaction in their tone and eyes.

Li Mingshan, deputy battalion commander of the second battalion of the second regiment, was the last to arrive. Because he was angry, he didn't want to attend the dinner at all. If it weren't for Jiang Ye's arrival, she would have been the battalion commander of the second battalion of the second regiment.

Jiang Ye, an outsider, snatched away his chance of promotion, and now he has to be his subordinate. Naturally, he feels very dissatisfied.

When he came, he was thinking about how to teach Jiang Ye a lesson at the dinner table.

After he knocked on the door, Xu Nuannuan happened to be closest to the door and went to open it for him.

He was outside with a gloomy face, and suddenly the door opened. The moment he saw Xu Nuannuan, he was as if he saw a fairy in the sky. He was instantly attracted by her beauty and was slightly stunned.

Xu Nuannuan noticed his gaze and asked, "You are the deputy commander of the second battalion, right? Please come in."

Li Mingshan finally reacted and quickly retracted his gaze. Xu Nuannuan smiled and said, "That's me. I'm not late, am I?"

"No, no."

Xu Nuannuan stepped aside and let him in.

This guy was muttering in his heart that not only had Jiang Ye become the battalion commander at such a young age, but the wife he married was also as beautiful as a fairy. This made him even more dissatisfied with Jiang Ye.

After he entered, he greeted the others first. The first person to be questioned was definitely the regiment commander, followed by Wang Dahai and the three company commanders, but he put Jiang Ye, who was his superior, last.

He gave Jiang Ye a fake smile and said, "Comrade Xiao Jiang, we will be working together from now on. I have been here longer than you and have more experience than you. If you have any questions in the future, you can always ask me."

This is not the attitude a subordinate should have towards his superior. It seems like the superior is teaching the subordinate.

Captain Zheng said, "Mingshan, Jiang Ye is your superior after all, you can't call him Xiao Jiang."

"I just think he is younger than me." He chuckled and tried to cover it up.

"He's young, but his position is there. You can call him battalion commander or just his name. You can't call him Xiao Jiang anymore."

Li Mingshan's face looked very ugly. How could he keep his face when being lectured by the team leader in front of so many people?

He said with a forced smile, "I understand. I'll just call you Comrade Jiang Ye."

Anyway, he didn't obey the battalion commander.

Jiang Ye said, "In terms of age, Deputy Battalion Commander Li is indeed older than me. In terms of seniority, I just arrived here, and I probably haven't been in the army as long as Deputy Battalion Commander Li. I admire those veterans who have always stood firm on the front line of defending the country.

I felt they all had a hard time, but I felt I was young and should have worked harder than them, so I just ignored everything and bravely moved forward. Before I knew it, within a few years I had won a lot of military medals, and the army even gave me my current position, which I never expected.

He spoke these words in a humble tone and as if jokingly, which showed that he respected the veterans very much. He believed that his own achievements today were entirely due to his heroic struggle and that it was well deserved.

Li Mingshan blushed. He was old and experienced, yet now he was only a deputy battalion commander. It was either because he wasn't working hard enough or because he wasn't capable enough. Liu Kun and Ding Jianguo also looked unhappy.

Although he is young, he has reached this position through his own strength. In the face of absolute strength, it would be presumptuous of you to not submit to him.
