Chapter 6: Black Market Tour

It’s just past noon.

Song Huaizhi came back.

When he smelled the meat, he felt unbelievable.

In the past, my mother would only buy some meat when my father gave me a subsidy every month, or we could eat meat during the Chinese New Year and other festivals.

What day is today? Why is there meat at home?

"Brother is back!" Song Yunying's eyes sparkled, "Brother, Mom made bone soup, it's delicious!"

On the dinner table, there was a large bowl of radish and bone soup, a black-faced vegetable pancake for each person, and an egg.

Song Huaizhi couldn't help but say, "I've eaten almost ten eggs in these three meals. At home..."

"You're just a little brat, what do you know?" Jiang Wanyue interrupted him with a guilty conscience, "If I give it to you, eat it. If you don't want to eat it, I'll eat it!"

Song Huaizhi sat down silently.

The eggs can only be sold for stationery and stamps, so it’s better to eat them.

Jiang Wanyue took a sip of the pork bone soup and nodded with great satisfaction. Pigs these days are not raised on feed, but real local pigs. The soup tastes absolutely amazing.

Take a bite of the radish, it’s moist with a meaty flavor, making you want to eat more.

The black flour pancakes were baked along the edge of the pan and had a meaty smell. The children ate them with gusto.

Jiang Wanyue took a bite and swallowed it with difficulty.

It would be great if we had white flour at home. White flour pancakes are the most delicious thing in the world.

It would be better if there was rice. She is still used to using rice as her staple food...

After all, my family is too poor.

After the meal, Song Huaizhi washed the dishes again, then fed the chickens before going out to school.

Song Yunying brought out a large basin, poured water and prepared to wash clothes.

Jiang Wanyue held her forehead with her hand. She had always been taken care of by someone since she was a child, but she actually forgot about doing laundry.

"Yingzi, you go take a rest, I'll do it."

She dragged a small stool and sat down beside the basin to wash the clothes resignedly.

Song Yunying was not idle either. Every time Jiang Wanyue washed a piece, she took it away, rinsed it in a large bucket, and then hung it on a chair to dry.

After washing the clothes, the little girl picked up the bamboo basket and went to pick rice ears again.

Jiang Wanyue was thinking.

She will go to school to teach tomorrow, and will have to work every day in the future. She is afraid that she will become busier and busier. She has to take advantage of the time now to get something back.

You can't have a treasure bowl and only eat eggs and sweet potatoes every day. That would be such a waste.

She did what she said. She picked up a bamboo basket, spread some straw on the bottom, put more than 20 eggs in it, covered it with a piece of cloth, took the money, picked up the child, and walked towards the commune again.

This time she walked much faster. When she arrived at the commune, she just caught the bus to the county town. The fare from Hongqi Commune to the county town was 30 cents.

The road was difficult to drive on and the car was bumpy all the way, stopping and starting frequently along the way. People were either getting on or off the car, and some were carrying poultry and vegetables. All kinds of smells filled the air... Just when Jiang Wanyue almost couldn't help vomiting, the car finally arrived at the county town.

She stood up and was about to get off the bus, but after taking a few steps she realized that she was now a mother. She quickly turned around, picked up the sleeping child, put on the backpack, and hurriedly got off the bus.

According to the original body's memory, go out of the station, turn left, pass four intersections, turn right into a residential area, and go to an alley at the back, and that's the black market.

For a moment, it was hard to tell that it was a black market, because there was not a single stall, just some people walking around.

Jiang Wanyue observed for a while and found that those coming and going were the same group of people.

While she was observing others, they were also observing her. Not long after, a young man in black clothes and a hat walked towards her and said, "Sister, are you taking a walk?"

Jiang Wanyue: “…”

You are the eldest sister in the whole family!

She was vomiting blood in her heart, but she put on a friendly smile on her face: "I'm taking the children to visit relatives."

"You have to bring something when you visit relatives." The young man took something out of his pocket and said in a low voice, "If you want, let's go to another place."

Jiang Wanyue’s eyes widened. It was an apple!

In modern times, apples are certainly not a rare thing, but in this era, they are considered very precious. According to the original owner's memory, they cost about 40 to 50 cents per pound!

She asked tentatively, "How much?"

"No ticket required, 80 cents a pound."

This price is not too outrageous and Jiang Wanyue can accept it.

She smiled and said, "Then let's change places."

The young man walked forward, and she kept a distance between them. The two of them walked one after the other into another alley and arrived at a small courtyard with a separate entrance.

Jiang Wanyue was alert and did not go in. She stood at the door waiting.

After a while, the man came out with a bag of apples in a cloth bag.

"Ahem!" Jiang Wanyue said awkwardly, "I only want one. Weigh it and tell me how much it is."

The man had been in the black market for so many years that he had seen all kinds of customers. He greeted them warmly, "Big sister, these apples have just been shipped from the north. They are very fresh. Eating them will make your children smarter. In addition to apples, I also have pears, bananas, and oranges. If you want any, you can come to me anytime!"

Jiang Wanyue's eyes lit up: "Okay, one each."

"Come in, big sister, and choose for yourself." The man opened the door. "Don't worry, I'm a serious businessman, not a bad person."

Jiang Wanyue could tell from his skillful weighing movements that he was indeed in this business, so she stepped in.

There were many cloth bags on the floor against the wall, containing fruits and grains such as rice and flour. In the other corner, there were various daily necessities, such as soap, toothbrushes, basins, etc.
