Chapter 5: Early Omens
I cheered myself up and drove back home. Before Shen Yixiao came back, I lay on the bed, looking sick.
He really came back. He had just kissed Lu Xiaoyun passionately in public in the box, but because of a phone call from me, he dropped everything and rushed back.
My heart was filled with sadness and fear. I felt sad about my love for him and I felt fear about the masks he could change so easily.
"Wife, have you taken your temperature? Why didn't you ask Dr. Lin to come over and take a look?" Shen Yixiao took off his coat, bent down to touch my forehead, his face full of anxiety, "How could you catch a cold when you're fine? Let me take your temperature first."
He turned around to get the medicine box. His busy figure made anyone who saw him praise him as a "good man".
After taking my temperature, I had a slight fever, which should be caused by emotional problems. Shen Yixiao didn’t know.
He made the medicine for me, supervised me while I drank it, then went to bed and held me in his arms. His movements were gentle and careful, but the smell of alcohol mixed with perfume on his body made me feel repelled.
"Is it the smell of me that makes you uncomfortable?" He soon discovered the problem.
"Well, it smells like a woman's perfume." I mentioned it deliberately.
Chen Yixiao chuckled softly, and habitually picked up my hair and entangled it to play with it, and replied, "Secretary Lu sprayed perfume today. We went to a social event in the evening. She helped me hold my coat, so it was stained with a little fragrance. I'll go wash it."
He is quite good at montage, telling half-truths and half-false stories. Even if I later find the same scent on Lu Xiaoyun, it can still be explained away.
I didn't say anything and let Shen Yixiao go to take a shower.
As soon as he left, Su Ying called him, "Xiaoyue, where are you? Why did you take so long? We've finished eating and are going to watch a movie."
“I caught a cold and had a slight fever, so I came back first. Shen Yixiao is with me now.” I said lazily.
"...You caught a cold but you didn't tell me. I could have gone with you to see a doctor. It's unnecessary to call your CEO Shen back just for a minor cold, right?" Su Ying's old problem came back and she started to get jealous again.
And her words inadvertently revealed one thing, which is how did she know that Shen Yixiao was called back by me, and was not at home originally?
Unless she already knew that Shen Yixiao had an appointment tonight, and even knew the location, so she specially asked me to go over.
She would never do this for my own good, hoping that I would see Shen Yixiao's true face, but she wanted to enjoy the pitiful and miserable look on my face after I found out that I had been betrayed.
Then he hypocritically advised me to be patient and give Shen Yixiao another chance.
I asked bluntly, "How do you know he rushed home to be with me?"
Su Ying paused briefly, then quickly reacted and explained, "Boss Chen in your family is a very busy man, with so many social engagements. Didn't he often drop his work and rush back because of you? This is my normal reaction."
It's hard for her to say these words so easily and naturally, but in fact she must be feeling very sad.
I smiled and said, "That's right, he really treats me very well, he is the best man in the world."
"Oh, you don't have to show off your love. Everyone knows that you married a good man. He will never cheat like others, never." Su Ying emphasized again and again, as if she was afraid that I would not become suspicious.
She discovered Shen Yixiao's abnormality earlier than me, but she just didn't want to tell me explicitly.
He likes to give me all kinds of hints and make me feel uneasy.
"Well, we are going to bed. You should go to bed early too." I was not affected by her and hung up the phone after saying that.
I couldn't sleep at all. The scene I just saw in the hotel kept appearing in my mind.

Shen Yixiao's scheming far exceeded my imagination.

There were various scars of different sizes on his body, all of which were injuries he got during his early days as a gangster. Fortunately, none of them injured his vital parts.
But the time I blocked it for him, it took away my right to have children.
I forced a smile and said, "I'm wondering if I should go to work in the company."
"Go to work?" Shen Yixiao was startled, frowning slightly. He walked over and sat on the bed. "Why do you suddenly want to go to work in the company? Is it because I have been too busy recently and have not been with you more, and you are too bored at home?"
"Or do you still doubt me and Secretary Lu and want to conduct an on-site investigation?" When he made this guess, there was still a frank and doting smile on his face, as if he was teasing me.
He didn't seem to feel the slightest bit of guilt for cheating.
"I just feel that I have too much free time. Anyway, I have nothing to do at home without children, so I might as well go to work." I looked at his smiling face and explained, "And I heard that men will gradually get tired of the yellow-faced woman at home, and lose touch with society. She can't keep up with his pace and is not worthy of him."
My words made Shen Yixiao laugh even deeper. He reached out and pinched my face, “You are not a yellow-faced woman, you are my wife.”
He always came up with these sweet words at will, and I used to love hearing them so much.
Just like that, my desire to go to work in the company was brushed aside by Shen Yixiao with a couple of jokes, and nothing happened next.
As usual, he would hold me in his arms until he fell asleep. This habit has never changed since we have been together.
Even though Lu Xiaoyun brought the child into the house in the previous life, and he had clearly begun to ignore me, he would still come to my bed at night and hold me in his arms to sleep.
He used to joke that I was his sleeping pills. During those days of fighting and killing, we lived in fear. Even when we slept, we hugged each other as if we were seeking a safe haven.
