Chapter 121 Returning Home

On the second day of the holiday, Sangshen accompanied Buling to the supply and marketing cooperative in the morning to buy some red paper, candy, and other New Year's items. In the afternoon, Buling prepared to leave for the military compound.

"Mulberry, don't you have to go to work?" I've been following her around for two days now.

"It's alright, I took the day off. Let me take you. It's not safe before the New Year, so it's better if I take you." Sangshen pretended not to understand the implication in Buling's words.

They haven't seen each other for almost twenty days, so what's wrong with him making the most of their time together? The only problem is that the little black girl is still so young.

"Sure, I've brought quite a lot of stuff." Why wouldn't Bling be happy to have someone carry her bags?

Sangshen wasn't angry; as long as he achieved his goal, that was enough. So be it if he was just a bag carrier.

He put the steamed buns and mantou he had made a few days ago into a clean cloth bag, and following Buling's instructions, he also brought some mountain produce and meat, all of which he put into a bamboo basket. Buling saw that there was still room, so he added some vegetables and several canned goods, including meat and fruit.

There's also a supply and marketing cooperative in the military family compound, which sells a wide variety of goods, but mostly daily necessities like oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar.

Neither of them rode bicycles. Buling was dressed warmly, carrying a shoulder bag containing her undergarments, and slowly walked towards the bus station.

Walking down the quiet street, the two chatted casually, without needing to say anything deliberately; the atmosphere was very comfortable.

When the bus arrived, Sangshen went up first, and then pulled Bling, who had difficulty moving, up as well.

Since it was only afternoon and the bus was returning home, there weren't many people on it. The two found two seats next to each other, with Sangshen sitting on the outside and placing the bamboo basket in the aisle.

After the bus had been driving for a while, more and more people started arriving, mostly to buy New Year's goods in the county town. Buling and Sangshen were completely inconspicuous; at most, Sangshen's face was a little more noticeable, attracting the attention of the young women and wives on the bus who kept stealing glances at her.

After getting off the bus, Sangshen dropped Buling off at the entrance of the family compound and then stopped there.

"Bling, Happy New Year in advance!"

Bling said with a smile, "You are too, Mulberry."

The two looked at each other and laughed foolishly for a while until someone passed by. Then Sangshen said, "Let's go back. It's too cold outside. I won't go in. If you can't carry the bamboo basket, find someone to help you carry it."

He could actually go to the military family compound, but it wouldn't be good for Xiao Hei Niu's reputation, so sending her there is enough.

"You should go back early too." Buling knew Sangshen's good intentions.

“I’ll watch you go in before I leave!” Sangshen said.

Buling didn't argue with him, and went into the courtyard with her bamboo basket on her back.

Sangshen watched him go in, then turned and left.

Buling turned around, looked at the boy's straight back, and smiled. After a long while, she turned and continued walking. On the way, she didn't forget to transfer some of the things inside to her spatial storage so that she could have an easier time.

She hadn't lived in the family compound for very long and didn't know many people there, so no one greeted her along the way.

Upon reaching the fourth floor and opening the door, a wave of warmth washed over me. The military family compound has heating, and the bathroom is inside the apartment, making it quite comfortable to live in.

The first thing Buling did when she got home was to boil some water and take a shower. It's embarrassing to admit, but she used to feel uncomfortable if she didn't shower every day.

Now, she can go a week without showering and not even flinch. The environment really does toughen people up!

After showering, I wrapped my hair in a towel, went to the master bedroom to make the bed, and then slowly dried my hair.

After drying her hair, she took out a novel from her spatial storage and began reading it with great interest.

Once she started reading a novel, she easily became engrossed, not even noticing when Bu Yi returned. It wasn't until she heard him cooking that she snapped out of her reverie, put down the novel, and left the bedroom.

"Brother, you're up so early today?"

"Nothing much, I might as well go home early." Bu Yi skillfully stir-fried the vegetables. "By the way, why are you back? Didn't we agree that I would come to see you?"

Bu Ling moved closer to Bu Yi, sniffing and looking him over: "Brother, you're pretty good, much better than your sister. Oh, our restaurant is closed for the holidays, the day before yesterday, so I came back by myself."

"If it's delicious, eat more later. Tell me what you want to eat, and I'll make it for you," Bu Yi said affectionately.

"Hehe, then I won't be polite."

Buyi served the dishes, and she immediately took them, placed them on the table, and even tasted them herself.

"By the way, brother, did you see the bamboo basket I brought back? It contains some New Year's goods that I bought. You can decide what to do with them later."

"Okay, I won't be busy these next few days. I'll stay home and spend some time with you."

"Then it's settled." Bu Ling was very happy. Her body was very dependent on Bu Yi, and after being transmigrated for so long, her thoughts were inevitably influenced.

"Alright, let's eat. I didn't have time to prepare today, but I'll cook you a big meal tomorrow." Bu Yi really enjoys cooking, especially for people he cares about. A fleeting hint of sadness crossed his eyes as he thought of something.

Bu Yi kept his word. In the days leading up to the New Year, he went to get off work on time and wasn't busy at all. He spent his days making all sorts of delicious food for Bu Ling, which made Bu Ling's little face rounder.

No wonder everyone says they gain three pounds every Chinese New Year!

Bling had no idea how much resentment the families in the same building felt every day, smelling the aroma of food wafting from Bling's home. Although the army wasn't short of food, they certainly didn't eat meat every meal.

It can only be said that Buyi dotes on his younger sister, and he also has the ability to do so.

Bu Yi is now a regimental commander, earning a little over one hundred yuan a month. With seniority pay and various subsidies, he takes home one hundred and fifty-three and a half yuan. He lives and eats at the military base and doesn't smoke or drink. Before finding Bu Ling, he saved all his salary. Combined with years of mission allowances and bonuses, it's no small sum.
