Chapter 125 The First Day Back to Work After the New Year

After resting for a day, on the eleventh day of the first lunar month, Bu Ling and Wu Yuanyuan prepared to go back to work. It was rare for a state-owned restaurant like theirs to delay reopening until the eleventh; factories like the machine factory, for example, didn't even stop operating until New Year's Eve.

People nowadays value dedication and being unafraid of hardship and fatigue, so they don't even know what a holiday is.

I'm so glad she works at a state-run restaurant.

Early in the morning, Buling opened her eyes and saw the rabbit fur coat on her bedside table. She was in an extremely good mood and decided to wear it today. Does a new coat only become a new coat if it's worn?

After tidying up, Wu Yuanyuan called out from outside.

"They're here!"

Bling pushed his bicycle out the door

Wu Yuanyuan looked at Bu Ling's outfit with a hint of envy in her eyes, but said nothing: "Let's go."

Unlike Buling, who earned her own money and received occasional subsidies from her two older brothers, she had to hand over fifteen yuan of her monthly salary for living expenses, leaving her with only the remainder for herself.

However, she's already envied by many girls, so she doesn't need to be jealous of others.

When they arrived at the state-run restaurant, Sister Ma was the first one there: "Sister Ma, it's been a long time! Happy New Year!"

"Happy New Year, Xiao Bu! Is this your new outfit? Rabbit fur? It looks really nice." No woman dislikes new clothes, but these days everyone buys new clothes for three years and keeps the old ones for three years. Even if you have cloth ration coupons, you save them for the children.

"Sister Ma has a good eye, it's definitely rabbit fur," Bu Ling said with a smile.

Aunt Ma wanted to touch it, but after hesitating for a long time, she finally gave up. Such nice clothes shouldn't be dirtied by her.

After the New Year, everyone felt a sense of warmth and familiarity towards each other.

"Hey, do you guys know? Tan Xiaosheng is here!"

Sister Ma suddenly dropped a bombshell.

"She's given birth?" Bu Ling and Wu Yuanyuan exclaimed in unison.

"That's right, she was born at the beginning of the year, premature, and endured labor for three whole days before giving birth to a skinny little girl." Sister Ma lived near Tan Xiao's house, so she knew quite a bit about it.

"How could she suddenly be born prematurely?" Bling asked curiously.

"I reckon they had a falling out with the in-laws. Otherwise, why would the young couple have come back on the first day of the Lunar New Year? I heard from their neighbors that they even had a fight," Sister Ma said in a low voice.

"That's really strange. Tan Xiao actually got into a fight with Han Yu?" Given Tan Xiao's love-struck nature, how could she possibly argue with Han Yu?

"Hey, listen to me, I haven't finished yet!" Sister Ma's eyes gleamed with excitement.

Bu Ling and Wu Yuanyuan: "Please continue."

Aunt Ma pretended to take a sip of water: "I heard that after they argued, Han Yu went out. If it weren't for Grandpa Tan's wife missing her daughter and secretly going to see her, Tan Xiao would probably be in serious trouble this time." As she said this, Aunt Ma felt a pang of sadness.

Childbirth is a life-or-death ordeal for women, and Tan Xiao was lucky to have made it through; countless women throughout history have failed to do so.

Wu Yuanyuan suddenly asked, "What about Tan Xiao now?"

"She's at home, being taken care of by her mother-in-law," Sister Ma shook her head.

Bu Ling frowned as well: "Where's Han Yu? Didn't he say anything?"

"I don't know about that. She'll probably tell you, right? That guy Xiao Han..." Sister Ma didn't finish her sentence, but Bu Ling and Wu Yuanyuan both understood what she meant.

"Hopefully, Tan Xiao will learn her lesson this time and stop treating trash like treasure." Bu Ling was just saying this casually; in reality, Tan Xiao didn't care what anyone said.

Both Sister Ma and Wu Yuanyuan nodded in agreement.

At nine o'clock, Han Yu arrived at work right on time. Bu Ling looked at his panda eyes and wanted to laugh, but held it back: "Hey~ Comrade Han, what happened to your eyes? Did someone beat you up?" He deserved it!

"I bumped into it by accident." Han Yu walked into the kitchen without looking to the side, trying her best to avoid seeing the gloating look in the woman's eyes.

Bu Ling wouldn't let him off the hook, following him into the kitchen: "How did you bump into that? That was so careless. But you know what, it was a perfectly symmetrical bump, don't you think, Sister Yuanyuan?"

Wu Yuanyuan glanced up, then immediately looked down, afraid she'd burst out laughing if she lingered even a second longer.

Han Yu silently washed her hands.

"Comrade Han, please be careful when you walk. Look at you, if we didn't know you, we would have thought some giant panda had escaped."

Han Yu rubbed his hands vigorously.

"Comrade Han, how was your New Year? Even if you were having a great time, you should take it easy. Look at the damage you got from the accident. What if you've become mentally impaired?"

Han Yu's fists clenched so tightly they cracked.

"Comrade Han, we're colleagues, I'm doing this for your own good. You'll regret not listening to a woman."

Han Yu said curtly, "No need!"

"Comrade Han, don't be embarrassed. We're all good comrades, and it's only right that I care about you."

Han Yu could barely control his fists. He took a deep breath, turned around abruptly, and looked at Bu Ling with eyes that seemed to spit fire.

Bu Ling was not intimidated at all; if Han Yu dared to make a move, she was willing to lie down.

"Thank you so much for your concern, Comrade Bu Ling!" she said, gritting her teeth as she spoke, clearly furious.

Having said that, afraid that Bu Ling would continue nagging, he turned and left the kitchen. The moment he stepped out, he heard boisterous laughter erupting from inside.

A vein throbbed on his forehead. He forced a smile at Aunt Ma outside and hurried out of the state-run restaurant.

Sister Ma couldn't help but shake her head with a smile: "Little Bu, you..."

However, Han Yu deserved it.

When Manager Zhu arrived, he noticed that his three employees were all very happy, and he nodded in satisfaction. "Good job," he thought, "they're all positive and helpful colleagues."

At 9:30, Grandpa Tan arrived. Everyone had gained weight over the New Year, but Grandpa Tan looked like he had lost weight; his belly wasn't as protruding anymore.
