Now that Sangshen's identity was out in the open, she couldn't wait to call her grandfather to prepare the betrothal gifts. If she hadn't remembered to be composed, she would have jumped for joy.
However, his composed and youthful demeanor only lasted until Bu Yi and Bu Ling left. Once they returned to the house together, he chuckled, his smile as bright and dazzling as the blazing sun.
Bling: ....
"I'm hungry, want me to cook?"
"Make some...hehe...what do you want to eat?" Mulberry
"Goose! A goose stewed in an iron pot, with some potatoes and a ring of flatbread on top—it sounds delicious!" Buling had long coveted Sangshen's goose.
But Mulberry insisted on saving it for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
"Okay, let's enjoy the moon together after we finish eating." Mulberry finally returned to normal.
Bling nodded. "Okay."
Soon, a domineering fragrance wafted from the house where Buling lived. However, this time, there was no sound of children being beaten in the yard, because soon after, fragrances also wafted from each other's houses.
Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, a festival for family reunion. Even the most frugal person would eat something nice to celebrate, especially since their neighbors in the courtyard are all quite well-off.
After dinner, everyone opened their doors and carried stools to sit in the courtyard. They said they were admiring the moon, but it was really just chatting and enjoying the cool air. Buling and Sangshen sat together, chatting and laughing with everyone. And just like that, the Mid-Autumn Festival passed.
The next day, after eating the loving breakfast that Sangshen made for him, Buling hitched a ride with Wu Yuanyuan to work. Sangshen also clocked in at her workplace first, and then slipped away to her brother's office.
He knocked twice symbolically, then pushed the door open and entered: "Brother!"
Sang Zi looked up from the documents and sized up her younger brother: "Judging from the smug look in your eyes, you've succeeded?"
Mulberry proudly raised her head: "Absolutely!"
Sang Zi smiled and said, "Grandpa asked about it just a couple of days ago. Shouldn't you tell him?"
Sangzhen nodded eagerly: "Yes, I came to tell Grandpa and ask him when he would have time to help me meet his parents."
Sang Zi raised an eyebrow upon hearing this. "So fast?"
“Yes, the sooner it’s settled, the more at ease we’ll feel!” Sangzhen said confidently.
Seeing Sang Shen's expression, Sang Zi wanted to rub his temples, but his glasses were in the way, so he simply took them off, threw them on the table, leaned back in his chair, clasped his hands over his stomach, and scrutinized Sang Shen.
"Have you made a decision?"
Sangshen looked directly into her brother's eyes: "It's decided."
“Okay, you can talk to Grandpa yourself or I will.” Sang Zi never opposes any of Sang Shen’s decisions, including marriage, because he is confident that he can support his younger brother.
"I'll come. If my uncles and the others are free, they should come too. That way, it will show that our family is sincere," Sangshen said with a fawning smile.
Sang Zi gestured with her chin to the phone on the table: "Ask him yourself."
Mulberry muttered, "If you're going to ask, then ask yourself."
He walked to his desk and first called his grandfather.
"Hey Grandpa, I have some good news for you. I have a boyfriend."
Grandpa Sang's voice came through the phone: "Really? Little Qi has grown up. Is she the one from the military hospital last time?"
"Yes, it's the same one as last time. What? It's been the same one from beginning to end."
Grandpa Sang was very happy: "Good, good, good! Our little Qi is really promising. He's the first among his brothers to have a girlfriend."
Sangshen said with a hint of pride, "Grandpa, when are you free to come to Gu County?"
On the other end of the phone, Grandpa Sang paused for a moment, then burst into laughter: "Grandpa is always free. When does Xiaoqi want Grandpa to come?"
Sangshen hesitated for a moment, then said, "Grandpa, let me ask my eldest uncle first, see if it's okay for him?"
"Why not? Listen to Xiao Qi," Grandpa Sang said indulgently.
After exchanging a few more intimate words, Sangzhen hung up the phone. Immediately afterwards, Sangzhen called his uncle, Sande.
During this time, Sangzi watched him quietly, her eyes filled with complex emotions—gratification, pride, and nostalgia. In the blink of an eye, the little bundle of joy in his arms had grown up and reached the age to get married. If his parents were still alive, they would be overjoyed.
Sangzhen was completely unaware of Sangzi's complicated thoughts. He was excitedly telling his aunt that he had a boyfriend and that he might ask them to visit him later.
Auntie readily agreed.
After my eldest uncle's family, it was my youngest uncle Sang Li's turn, but Sang Li was probably busy and didn't take over until my aunt Sang Yi.
After informing his elders, he moved on to his peers. His older brother was right there, so there was no need to notify him specifically. But he also had five cousins, and he didn't mind the trouble of notifying them one by one.
As expected of the Sang family's darling, everyone who received his notification was happy for him and offered their blessings, and they all vowed to be there on time, even if they didn't have time, they would make time to go.
Sangzhen hung up the phone with satisfaction. By then, two hours had passed. Sangzi looked up from her work and asked, "Did you finish the notification?"
Mulberry replied without the slightest embarrassment, "Mmm."
Sangzi looked at her younger brother with amusement: "Now that you're done, settle the phone bill. It's one cent per minute. You can calculate how much it costs yourself."
"Brother, dear brother, just pay up, I don't have any money!" Sangshen said defiantly, though she was clearly in the wrong.
Sang Zi straightened up. "No money?"
"I have a wife to support, so of course I'll save money wherever I can!" Sangshen argued vehemently.
Sang Zi laughed angrily: "So you just exploit your brother."
Sangshen blinked her phoenix eyes cutely and leaned closer to Sangzi: "Brother, you're the best."
