At that moment, Bu Ling had just finished get off work and was sitting outside washing clothes when she saw a group of people rush in. When she saw the red ribbons on their arms, she couldn't help but squint.
The elderly woman, surnamed Lan, who was sitting next to her washing clothes, was so startled that she dropped the clothes in her hands, splashing water everywhere.
"Which room does Liu Lian stay in?" asked the leader, who was wearing a red ribbon, rudely.
Bling pretended to be terrified and sat there blankly without saying a word.
The leader frowned, about to press for answers, when someone behind him tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "That's Director Sang's sister-in-law."
The leader with the red ribbon frowned, turned his gaze to Grandma Lan, and pointed at her: "You speak!"
Faced with so many people's intense gazes, Aunt Lan nervously swallowed, "In...in the backyard!"
"Take us there!"
Having no other choice, Aunt Lan could only stand up shakily and lead the group of people to the backyard.
After the group entered the backyard, Bu Ling frowned deeply and followed them into the backyard. As soon as she entered, Aunt Zhao pulled her into the house: "Little Bu, what's going on?"
Buling peered out the window and shook her head when she heard Aunt Zhao's question: "I don't know, Aunt Zhao, is Sister Liu home?"
Aunt Zhao's face was a little pale. She nodded and said, "Yes, she just got home."
Bling fell silent, unsure of what to say.
A moment later, she watched as the group of people dragged the terrified widow Liu out. As they got closer, she could even see that the widow Liu's body was trembling.
The door to Widow Liu's house was wide open, and her two children sat on the ground, watching helplessly as their mother was taken away, crying loudly.
After the group of people left, Aunt Zhao and Bu Ling went out of the house and headed towards Widow Liu's house.
Not only them, but the Qi family members were the same; they only dared to show their faces after the Revolutionary Committee members left.
Buling followed Aunt Zhao into Widow Liu's house, looked around, and then helped Aunt Zhao lift the two children up and put them on the kang (a heated brick bed).
Looking at the messy house, Aunt Zhao sighed, "Let's help tidy up the house first."
The women of the Qi family who came in later did not object and silently helped tidy up the house.
They had only tidied up halfway when the men came home from get off work. Jiang Sheng took the lead and ran ahead, calling out, "Sister Xiaolian, Sister Xiaolian!"
Upon arriving at the backyard and seeing the situation inside the house, he staggered two steps and was about to slide to the ground when Qian Xinghua, who was behind him, quickly caught him and asked, "What happened?"
Grandma Lan was still trembling with shock and definitely couldn't answer his question, so it was up to Bu Ling to step in:
"I don't know. Aunt Lan and I were washing clothes in the front yard when that group of people rushed in, and that's how it is now."
"Xiao Bu, you don't know either? Xiao Sang's brother isn't..." Grandpa Qian asked tentatively.
Bu Ling shook his head decisively: "I don't know. As you all know, the Revolutionary Committee is now managed by leaders from Beijing. My brother-in-law is just a figurehead."
Anyone who gets involved in this kind of thing is doomed; she's not crazy!
The atmosphere froze for a moment.
"Waaaah—Uncle Jiang, please save my mother, please save my mother!" Liu's eldest son, Xiang Hua, suddenly ran towards Jiang Sheng and pleaded.
"I want my mom! I want my mom!" Widow Liu's youngest son also burst into tears.
Jiang Sheng was brought back to his senses by the crying, and hugged Xiang Hua tightly, saying, "I will definitely save your mother!"
Then, he picked up Xiang Hua and carried him into the house, put him and Xiang Ming together, and then turned to the silent neighbors in the house and said, "Aunt Wu, Aunt Zhao, could you please help take care of these two children? I'm going out to find out some information."
Aunt Wu and Aunt Zhao, who were mentioned, readily agreed: "Don't worry."
Jiang Sheng forced a smile and said, "Thank you!" Then he looked around at the neighbors, hoping to find a companion.
But to his disappointment, his neighbors avoided his sight. It wasn't that they lacked compassion, but that getting involved in such a thing could ruin an entire family, and they didn't dare gamble with their whole family's future.
Jiang Sheng was extremely disappointed, but he didn't say anything, only saying, "Thank you all for your help."
After saying that, he turned around, bent down and said to Xiang Hua and Xiang Ming, "Xiang Hua, Xiang Ming, your uncle is going to inquire about your mother. You two must behave well, okay? Xiang Hua, you are the older brother, so take good care of Xiang Ming and listen to Grandma Wu and Grandma Zhao."
Xiang Hua is eleven years old this year and can understand a lot of things. Hearing this, he nodded while holding back his tears: "I understand, Uncle Jiang. I will be a good boy and take good care of my little brother." As he spoke, he hugged Xiang Ming, who was crying incessantly.
Jiang Sheng patted the two children's heads, stood up, hastily wiped away his tears, and strode out of the house.
He had only taken a couple of steps when Aunt Shen called out to him, "Second son, second son!"
Jiang Sheng stopped and turned around: "Mom?"
Aunt Shen hurriedly took two steps and grabbed Jiang Sheng's arm: "Second son, are you stupid! How could you get involved in something like this? Come home with your mother right now."
As she spoke, Aunt Shen tried to pull Jiang Sheng home, but she couldn't budge him no matter what she tried. She could only turn to Jiang Sheng and try to appeal to his emotions:
"My son, you're my only son. What will I do if something happens to you? Be good and come home with me. I'll find you a wife then. We'll find you a young, unmarried woman!"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Sheng's expression remained unchanged. After Aunt Shen finished speaking, he slowly and firmly withdrew his arm: "Mother, you still have a younger sister. I only want Sister Xiaolian."
He left those words behind, strode out, and walked faster and faster until he was jogging, then running, and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
