Grandma Zheng's daughter staggered in. When she saw Grandma Zheng, she burst into tears, knelt down at the door, and then cried her heart out.
The sound of crying brought tears to the eyes of all who heard it, and many neighbors also started to cry. Grandma Zheng's grandchildren also knelt down.
The courtyard was filled with sobs. Sangshen walked to Buling's side, put her arm around her, and the two watched the scene in silence.
Grandma Zheng's funeral was very simple. In the era of destroying the Four Olds, no grand ceremony was held. Her body was laid in state for three days until her eldest daughter came back to see her one last time, and then she was buried.
Fortunately, it's already late October and the weather isn't so hot anymore, otherwise it wouldn't have lasted this long.
When the old lady was being sent off, all the children in the alley came to kowtow.
After seeing off Old Madam Zheng, the atmosphere in the courtyard became even more somber. That night, Buling and Sangshen lay on the kang (a heated brick bed) talking quietly.
Bu Ling asked, "Is Old Man Yu alright? Was he not affected?"
Sangshen shook her head: "Not yet, but you're right. I need to talk to my brother and ask him to find a way to get Old Man Yu out of here. The city is too chaotic right now."
Bling knew this was for the best, but still asked, "Won't this affect Big Brother?"
Sangshen frowned: "Let me discuss it with my older brother."
The next day, Bu Ling rode her bicycle to work and encountered Wu Yuanyuan walking on the road. She stopped and greeted her, "Sister Yuanyuan."
"Ling, you're here early today?" Wu Yuanyuan said with a smile.
Bu Ling rolled her eyes at her. "Didn't Tie He and Ge Ge give you a ride?"
Wu Yuanyuan: "He was on the night shift yesterday, so I didn't ask him to deliver it. I can manage on my own."
Bling pushed her bicycle alongside her, saying, "You're not even three months along yet, so you'd better be careful."
"Okay~" Wu Yuanyuan's squinted eyes were full of happiness.
She's pregnant, two months along. If she hadn't been so frightened that she fainted before, she doesn't know when she would have found out.
The moment she found out she was pregnant, she breathed a huge sigh of relief. She had been married for almost a year and a half, and finally she was going to have a child. How could she not be careful?
"Ling, what do you think Grandma Zheng's daughter is planning to do by staying in our courtyard?" Wu Yuanyuan changed the subject.
"I don't know," Bu Ling said, somewhat puzzled. "They probably can't bear to part with Grandma Zheng."
The atmosphere between the two somberly shifted when Grandma Zheng was mentioned.
After a while, Wu Yuanyuan asked again, "When do you think this situation will end?" She looked at Buling expectantly, hoping to find an answer from her.
Bling wanted to know too: "I don't know."
Wu Yuanyuan didn't press the matter further, and during their casual conversation, the two arrived at the restaurant.
Since they learned that Wu Yuanyuan was pregnant, Sister Ma, Uncle Tan, and others have taken good care of her, only letting her do some light work.
Wu Yuanyuan didn't refuse their kindness; after thanking them, she accepted their offer.
Lately, the restaurant has been very quiet, with very few people coming to eat, and Buling and the others have been quite idle.
After a leisurely day, Bu Ling rode his bicycle home. When he arrived, he saw Grandma Zheng's daughter coming out of Aunt Wu's house. Bu Ling got off his bicycle and greeted her, "Aunt Jiang."
"Oh, it's Xiao Bu. You're off work?" Grandma Zheng's daughter's surname is Jiang, and she's known as Aunt Jiang.
"Yes, Aunt Jiang, you're busy. I'm rushing home to cook." Bu Ling exchanged a few pleasantries and went back inside.
Aunt Jiang nodded and walked to the backyard. Once she returned to the house and was alone, her expression darkened.
Gazing towards the front yard, the hatred in his eyes was undisguised...
That evening, Bu Ling waited and waited for Sang Shen to return, but he didn't come back. Finally, seeing that it was past his workday, he couldn't sit still any longer.
I slung my bag over my shoulder, locked the door, and rode my bicycle toward the government building in Zone 2.
Even after get off work hours, the building was still brightly lit. Bu Ling locked her bicycle and went upstairs. She went to Sang Shen's office first, but no one answered when she knocked. She then turned around and went up to the third floor to Sang Zi's office.
"Knock-knock--knock---"
"Enter!"
Bu Ling pushed open the door and entered. Seeing Sang Shen sitting safely in the room, he breathed a sigh of relief and greeted her, "Brother, thank you, Brother. I've come to see Sang Shen."
Sang Zi smiled gently: "Sister-in-law, please sit down. It's our fault for forgetting the time."
Buling said "Where?" as she walked over and sat down next to Sangshen, asking, "What's wrong?"
Sang Shen's face was extremely pale. Upon hearing Bu Ling's words, her clenched fist loosened. "Old Yu has been taken away!"
Bling covered Sangshen's hand with her own. "When did this happen?"
"It just happened," Xie Dong replied. "I went to the scrap yard to deliver something to Old Man Yu, and I happened to see him being taken away by someone."
After Xie Dong finished speaking, Sang Zi asked softly, "Sister-in-law, tell me about your suggestion!"
Buling looked at Sangshen, who nodded at her: "This is the only way we can save Old Man Yu."
"It's about framing Wang Yuelong. They wrote a few letters in foreign languages and hid them at his place or his sister's place, making it look like the siblings were corresponding." Did she really need to explain framing someone so clearly? She was just an innocent young girl.
Xie Dong's eyes lit up after hearing this, but he quickly thought of another problem: "But what should we write in the letter? Ordinary things won't be enough to bring down Wang Yuelong."
Sang Zi frowned as well. Only Sang Shen understood Bu Ling well enough. "Ling Ling, do you have something on your mind?"
Sang Zi and Xie Dong both looked at Bu Ling.
Bling didn't keep them in suspense, lowering his voice to say, "Perhaps you've heard of the Radiant Tank?"
