Chapter 219 Aunt is seriously ill

Finally, it wasn't until the men in the courtyard returned from get off work that they separated the two seemingly insane women and rescued the dying old lady, Mrs. Shi.

After finding out the whole story, Grandpa Wu was completely baffled. What kind of mess was this?

When will things finally calm down in their courtyard? But seeing the pitiful old lady Shi, a thought flashed through Mr. Wu's mind: it seems that so many things have happened in their courtyard since the old lady Shi came to live there.

The more he thought about it, the more convinced he was of his own thinking. Grandpa Wu's gaze toward Grandma Shi became less friendly: "Sister Qi, hurry up and take your mother to the hospital. It's not good to delay. Tell me, Grandma Shi was too careless. How did she fall and get so hurt?"

"My mother was clearly beaten by those two bitches!" Aunt Qi argued, unconvinced.

Grandpa Wu's gaze towards Grandma Qi was also quite unfriendly: "Then tell me, why did these two beat your mother?"

Aunt Qi hesitated for a moment, unable to say anything.

Grandpa Wu nodded in satisfaction: "That's settled then. Quickly take Grandma Shi to the hospital!"

Aunt Qi was about to say something when Qi Yusheng interrupted her: "Uncle Wu, we're going now." With that, he and his younger brother Qi Yudi lifted up Old Lady Shi and walked out.

Ming and her sister-in-law, Ru, were also perceptive. They pulled Aunt Qi away and said as they walked, "Aunt Shi, let's go. Think about what Grandma Shi did. It's good enough that they're not pursuing it."

Aunt Qi was dragged outside. At first, she struggled, but she calmed down after hearing Qin Wanqing's words.

After watching the Qi family leave the compound, Grandpa Wu turned to look at Grandma Lan and Grandma Jiang, who were still glaring at each other.

After taking several deep breaths, I was able to suppress my anger and calmly face the two of them.

"Tell me, what are you two planning to do?" he asked coldly.

Aunt Jiang spoke first: "I want them to pay for my mother's life."

Grandpa Wu said earnestly, "Jiang girl, I know you're sad, but your mother wouldn't want to see you like this. She did this to protect you!"

"Then let them give me back my life!" Aunt Jiang then made another demand.

Grandpa Wu frowned. He had heard about Grandma Jiang's plight. Her in-laws disliked her because she was the daughter of a concubine and kicked her out. Now even her own children didn't recognize her, and she was homeless.

To be fair, if it were him, he would never have let it go so easily either, but: "This is difficult. You have to understand that they abandoned you, and a broken mirror can never be mended. You should know that."

Aunt Jiang stood there, seemingly both crying and laughing. Yes, how can a broken mirror be mended?

Fearing that he might upset her further, Mr. Wu quickly said, "How about this, I have a suggestion for you to see if it works?"

Aunt Jiang ignored her.

Grandpa Wu continued, "The whole county has heard about your mother's story. I suppose you couldn't live here anymore, so you chose to die together with her, right?"

Before Aunt Jiang could answer, he said, "I'll have Lao Lan pay for your travel expenses. Go to your sister's place; that way you can escape all this trouble."

Upon hearing this, Aunt Jiang looked up and hesitated for a moment. After a while, she made up her mind: "Okay!"

After resolving another case, Grandpa Wu mentally cheered himself up, then turned to the last person involved: "Old Lan, tell me what you're doing. I told you before to watch your mouth, and now look what happened, you've caused trouble!"

Grandma Lan's clothes were disheveled, her hair was frizzy, and her wrinkled face was covered with lines of blood. When she heard Grandpa Wu's words, she lowered her head even further, clearly knowing that she was wrong.

Grandpa Wu pressed his advantage: "Do you have a problem with me paying for Jiang's travel expenses?"

Aunt Lan shook her head. "No objection, but..."

Seeing Grandpa Wu frown, Grandma Lan immediately said, "...Grandma Shi also has to take responsibility; it can't be just me who's responsible."

Grandpa Wu was quite agreeable about this: "Sure, you can pay for it first, and ask her for it when she comes back." He was also extremely annoyed by this old lady Shi, so naturally he was unwilling to defend her.

Seeing that no one had any objections, Grandpa Wu sighed wearily: "Alright, alright, everyone disperse. Let's leave it at that for today. Everyone, please don't say anything more. You've all seen the consequences of saying too much, haven't you?"

"Okay, Uncle Wu!"

"Brother Wu, don't worry!"

Grandpa Wu waved his hand wearily: "Let's call it a day. It's getting late. Go cook or do whatever you need to do!"

After saying that, he was the first to turn around and go back into the house. As he left, he was still thinking that he should let his wife go to the temple to pray sometime. This year has been so unsettling!

Well, I'll go pray once this storm has passed. The sooner I pray, the sooner I'll be at peace!

After Grandpa Wu left, the onlookers dispersed, and Buling and Sangshen returned to their own rooms.

"Lingling, what are we having for dinner tonight?" Sangshen's face was full of longing.

Bu Ling was also stunned for a long time: "Either way, keep it simple." He was done watching the drama unfold.

"That dumpling soup?"

"OK."

The dumpling soup was simple and didn't require any help from Bu Ling. Bu Ling sat on the recliner, reminiscing about the farce that had just happened, and sighed sincerely, "Oh, Uncle Wu is really unlucky."

Sangshen could really understand Bling's feelings at this moment: "That's right, judging from how skillfully she handled this today, she must have had a lot of experience before."

Bu Ling shook his head: "That's not what I meant. I mean, Grandpa Wu has gone to great lengths and poured his heart and soul into protecting the reputation of our courtyard!"

The simplest thing to do would have been to report it to the police, but Grandpa Wu took care of it himself for the sake of the neighborhood's reputation. She admired his spirit. Besides, if the police were called, Grandma Jiang would definitely be held responsible. So, wasn't Grandpa Wu doing this to protect Grandma Jiang?
