At 7:50, Bu Ling strolled towards the gate of the compound, carrying a small bundle.
Five military wives were already waiting at the door. Bu Ling walked over and stood silently to one side.
The five military wives exchanged glances when they saw her, and they were all somewhat eager to make a move.
"Young lady, what's your relationship with the head of the cloth troupe?" an old woman couldn't help but ask.
Seeing that the other four people also had gossipy expressions, it's clear that gossip is human nature.
"Buyi is my brother, and who are you, elder sister?"
"Oh dear, young lady, you should call me auntie." The older woman waved her hand and corrected her, wishing she wasn't smiling so happily: "I live downstairs from Commander Bu's house, and my son is a comrade-in-arms of Commander Bu."
Bu Ling suddenly realized, "You have such a big son, but you don't look it at all. How do you maintain your youthful appearance?" Flattery never fails.
The old lady instantly beamed with joy: "What's this talk about maintenance? It's just that my son is successful and I live a comfortable life, so I look young." She went on and on about how she was showing off her son.
Bu Ling chimed in, "Really? Your son is so filial." She and Bu Yi would be staying here for a long time, and saying a few nice words wouldn't kill anyone.
The old woman's brows relaxed, clearly indicating that she agreed with what Buling said.
The other four military wives, watching the two seemingly happy together, were somewhat puzzled as to how things had come to this.
The old lady called out affectionately, "Ling girl, do you have a boyfriend? Let me introduce you to one, right here..."
Bu Ling quickly interrupted, "Big sister, I'm only sixteen years old this year, I'm still young." Is this a common hobby of middle-aged and elderly women, who love to introduce potential partners to young people?
The old woman wasn't persistent: "Ling girl, does your brother have a girlfriend? I have a niece, a high school graduate, with a good figure and beautiful looks, gentle and polite... blah blah blah." That was her ultimate goal.
You should know that as soon as Regiment Commander Bu and Deputy Regiment Commander Liang were transferred here, countless people in the compound had their eyes on these two, especially since they knew that neither of them had a partner. Among them, Bu Yi, who was more handsome and had a better temperament, was the most popular.
Buling noticed that the other four older sisters were also watching, so she cleared her throat and said, "My brother has a girlfriend, but my sister-in-law isn't here." Thinking of Bu Yi's desperate tone that day, she had some guesses in her mind.
"You've got a boyfriend, huh?" The old lady was very disappointed, and the other four women also looked somewhat downcast.
“That Liang…”
"Big sister, the shuttle bus is here, let's get on." Buling interrupted the old lady's sales pitch as she watched the approaching bus.
Upon seeing this, the old woman stopped asking questions and grabbed Bu Ling's hand, running forward with such speed and agility that Bu Ling could not match her.
Thanks to the woman's agility, the two managed to grab the last two seats on the bus, while the four military wives who were a step too slow had to stand.
Bling was extremely grateful to the old lady.
Buling was willing, and the old lady was willing too; along the way, the two almost became like mother and daughter.
When we arrived in the county town and got off the bus, before we parted, the old lady reminded us, "Ling'er, come visit me tonight, I'll cook you something delicious."
"Big sister, then I won't be polite."
"Don't mention it, don't mention it," the old woman said with a wide smile.
Watching the old woman walk towards the supply and marketing cooperative, Bu Ling chuckled softly. This old woman was quite the chatterbox; along the way, she had shared a lot of gossip about the compound with Bu Ling. As a seasoned gossip expert, Bu Ling thought this old woman had potential and could be developed into her gossip group.
She got off the bus not far from the department store, and carrying her small bundle, she walked towards the department store.
This time, she didn't look around aimlessly; she went straight to the fabric counter with a clear goal.
Today, a new batch of red fabric arrived at the department store. The counters selling the fabric were packed with people. Bu Ling hesitated for only a moment before being swept into the crowd.
"You stepped on my foot!"
"Stop pushing! Stop pushing!"
"Don't pull my clothes, are you trying to harass me!"
“…”
Buling's small frame was clearly no match for the crowd, and she was jostled about, but luckily there were many people around, so she didn't fall.
When she was pushed to the counter, one of Bling's braids was pulled open, and her clothes were askew.
"How many feet, and which color?" the woman selling fabric at the counter asked simply.
Buling didn't dare to hesitate. She could feel several hands pulling her: "I want thirty-five feet of cloth, ten feet of black, ten feet of red, and the rest in blue." Buling took out all the cloth coupons from her space and handed them over.
The saleswoman selling fabric looked at her in surprise, not expecting this skinny girl to be so generous. With people behind her still urging her on, she quickly cut the fabric. "Red fabric is 80 cents a foot, black fabric is 60 cents a foot, and blue fabric is 50 cents a foot. That's 21.50 yuan in total."
When Bling finally managed to squeeze out of the crowd, her other braid came undone, and the hair tie was nowhere to be found.
She took a deep breath, looked at the ever-growing crowd behind her with awe, and quickly moved away.
Holding the cloth, he strolled over to the hardware counter and bought three lunch boxes with three industrial coupons and nine yuan. He also bought a flashlight and two batteries with a flashlight coupon and eleven yuan.
Then they continued shopping, using up all the timed tickets they had gotten from the Du family, until they couldn't buy any more, and then they left the department store with bags full of stuff.
Walking down the street, passersby would glance at Bu Ling a few more times. The women mainly looked at the bright red fabric, while the men wondered, "Whose daughter is this, spending so extravagantly?"
