Bling took the telegram back to the hotel.
"Buling, what's wrong? Who sent you the telegram? You look terrible." Zhu Zhizhi stood up and asked with concern when she saw her return.
Bu Ling took a deep breath before saying, "I'm fine, I just need to ask for leave." As she spoke, she looked at Manager Zhu.
“My husband’s aunt is sick, and somehow the telegram was sent to me. I have to go and tell Sangshen,” Buling explained.
Manager Zhu was very easy to talk to: "Go ahead."
Buling nodded, turned around, went to the backyard, pushed her bicycle, and sped off to the government building. She went straight to Sangshen's office.
"Mulberries!"
Sangshen turned around in response: "Lingling, what brings you here?" Then, noticing that Lingling's complexion was not good, she quickly asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Without a word, Bu Ling handed over the telegram. Sang Shen opened it with a puzzled look, and her expression changed after glancing at it.
"I'm going to Ice City!" Sangshen quickly made his decision. His aunt was like a mother to him, and he had to go see her in person.
Bu Ling didn't stop him, saying, "It would be better to tell your older brother first."
Sangshen nodded: "You're right, I'll go find my brother right now!" Before he finished speaking, he ran upstairs.
After nodding to his colleagues, Buling followed them upstairs.
In Sangzi's office.
Sangzhen pushed open the door and said directly, "Brother, I need to ask for leave to go to Harbin!"
Sang Zi looked up from behind her desk, saw his unpleasant expression, and a glint of malice flashed in her eyes: "What's wrong?"
Sang Shen walked quickly to Sang Zi's desk and showed him the telegram. Sang Zi glanced at it, his smile fading: "Okay!"
Bling, who arrived shortly after, entered the house, closed the door, and looked at the two brothers: "Big brother!"
Sang Zi nodded, and then said, "Sister-in-law, you should go too!"
Buling hadn't expected her to be involved. She paused for a moment, but didn't refuse: "Okay, I'll go with Sangshen. We can look after each other on the way."
Sang Zi took off her glasses and smiled gently, "That's what I meant. Xiao Qi is completely lost right now. I can only feel at ease when her younger siblings are with her."
After saying that, he looked at Sang Shen and said, "Xiao Qi, don't worry too much. Your aunt is always in good health, so she will be fine this time."
Sangzhen was extremely anxious and didn't notice her brother's unusual behavior. She just frowned and nodded: "I understand. We'll leave tonight. I'll go buy the tickets now!"
Sang Zi put her glasses back on, concealing the strange look in her eyes: "Go!"
Sang Shen grunted in agreement, turned and walked away. When he reached Bu Ling's side, he suddenly remembered, "Ling Ling, did you ask for leave?"
“I’ll go back and ask them right away!” Buling said immediately.
"Shall we go downstairs together?"
“Okay!” Bu Ling agreed, then turned to Sang Zi and said, “Big brother, we’ll be going now.”
Sangzi: "Drive slowly, no need to rush!"
The two agreed and went downstairs together. After leaving the government building, they separated. Bu Ling went to the hotel to ask for leave, while Sang Shen went to buy tickets.
When Bu Ling arrived at the hotel, she explained what had happened. Manager Zhu readily granted her a week's leave on the spot. The main reason was that the hotel wasn't busy and had enough staff, so Manager Zhu approved the leave without hesitation.
After taking leave, Buling went home and packed some luggage. Her aunt's city, Bingcheng, is located in Northeast China. It's November now, the time of year when it's freezing cold. She needed to pack a few extra cotton-padded clothes in case of need.
Time flew by in this busy rush, and before we knew it, it was dark. When Aunt Tian came home from get off work, she saw Bu Ling packing her things and asked in confusion, "Little Bu, what are you doing?"
“Aunt Tian, my husband’s aunt is sick, and I have to go to Bingcheng. Could you please keep an eye on the house for me during this time, especially to prevent thieves from breaking in?” Bu Ling pointed meaningfully to the backyard.
Aunt Tian understood the unspoken meaning: "Don't worry, I'll definitely take good care of the house for you."
Buling thanked her and waited a while longer. Sangshen returned with the tickets. She told Aunt Tian, picked up her suitcase, got on Sangshen's bicycle, and disappeared into the night.
The train to Harbin won't be running until tomorrow, so Sangshen couldn't wait and bought a ticket to Kyoto instead. She'll have to transfer in Kyoto, which is a bit of a hassle, but it'll get her to Harbin faster.
This time, due to the time crunch, they couldn't get sleeper tickets. Sangshen led Buling to the hard-seat carriage, found two empty seats, and then said apologetically, "Thank you for your trouble, Lingling!"
Bling opened the suitcase, took out a wool blanket, and covered the two of them with it: "Come on, what's with the fuss? This is just what we should do."
The worry in Sang Shen's eyes vanished, and she took Buling's hand under the blanket: "Lingling, you're so good."
Bling turned her head and saw the most sincere affection in the boy's eyes. The corners of her mouth turned up. "I know!"
Sang Shen loved Bu Ling's shamelessness. He looked around and saw that everyone in the carriage was asleep. With lightning speed, he gave her a heavy kiss on the lips: "Make it up to you!"
Bling glared at him and spat, "Pah!"
After the jokes, Sangshen's mood finally improved. He pressed Buling's head onto his shoulder and said, "Take a nap. We won't get to Kyoto until tomorrow."
Bling didn't resist, but leaned obediently on his shoulder and yawned: "You too, you should at least rest for a while, otherwise you won't be able to hold on."
Sangshen adjusted her posture to make herself more comfortable, and then closed her eyes.
The next morning at nine o'clock, the train arrived in Kyoto. Sangshen packed up the blanket, carried the suitcase in her left hand and dragged Bling with her right hand, and squeezed into the crowd to get off the train.
