Sang Zhang was dressed in a crisp military uniform. He was tall and handsome, which attracted admiring glances from the passing nurses.
"Big brother!" Sang Shen hurried over to Sang Zhang. "You're here too?"
Sang Zhang nodded, then greeted Bu Ling behind him, "Sister-in-law."
"Big Brother!" Bu Ling
Sang Zhang carried a thermos in his left hand and a white enamel basin with red flowers in his right. His military uniform sleeves were rolled up to his arms. Upon seeing the two people, his serious expression softened.
"Sister-in-law, you must have had a long journey."
Bu Ling smiled and said, "Brother, what are you saying? We're all family."
After saying that, she asked, "By the way, how is Auntie? What exactly happened?"
A hint of embarrassment flashed in Sang Zhang's eyes, but he avoided answering, saying, "Let's go, I'll take you to the ward."
Sangshen and Buling exchanged a glance and tacitly refrained from asking further questions, knowing they would find out everything once they met their aunt.
Sang Zhang led Bu Ling and Sang Shen to the ward where Li Huixiu was staying. "Mom, Xiao Qi and his wife are here."
Li Huixiu was lying on the hospital bed with her back to the door. She was about to mock Sang Zhang when she heard his voice, but then she heard what he said next.
Sang Zhang watched as her frail mother turned around and sat up in a flash, her usual sarcastic face breaking into a wide smile: "Lingling and Xiaoqi are here? Come on, sit down!"
"Eldest brother, quickly get stools for Xiaoqi and Lingling." Aunt Sang was visibly happy.
Looking at the white bandage around her aunt's forehead, Sangshen couldn't hide her worry: "Aunt, what happened? What's wrong with your head?"
He and Bu Ling hurriedly went to the bedside and looked at their aunt with concern.
Aunt Sang waved her hand: "Hey, I'm fine! I just tripped and fell."
"How could you fall down for no reason? And why would you be hospitalized if you were fine?" Sangshen asked repeatedly.
Seeing the two women's concerned looks, Aunt Sang sighed, "Ah~ I'm old, useless, and people dislike me now~"
Buling, Mulberry: ? ? ?
The two exchanged a glance, and Buling sat down next to her aunt: "Aunt, you're still young, why are you talking about being old?"
Sangshen sat down on the other side: "That's right, that's right. In my heart, Auntie will always be eighteen. Besides, if anyone dares to look down on you, just tell me and I'll go beat them up!"
Aunt Sang was enjoying the intimacy between the two, smiling from ear to ear. But when she saw Sang Zhang standing to the side, her smile vanished: "What are you still standing here for? Do you want me to die sooner?"
Sang Zhang pinched the bridge of her nose helplessly: "Mom, don't say things in anger."
Aunt Sang turned her head away: "Hmph! Some people are afraid I'll get so angry that I'll block their way!"
Sang Zhang pulled up a stool and sat down. "Mom, can you please be reasonable with me?"
These words not only resonated with Aunt Sang, but also made Sang Shen and Bu Ling frown.
Sure enough, Aunt Sang exploded: "I'm not being reasonable! Fine, Sang Zhang, get out of here! Get out! Don't let me see you again!"
Sang Zhang ruffled his hair wearily: "Mom, I'm all grown up now, I can take responsibility for my own life."
Aunt Sang got even angrier upon hearing this: "Get out! Get out!"
Before Sang Zhang could say anything more, Sang Shen suddenly stood up and said, "Big brother, I'm a little hungry. Can you take me to the cafeteria to get something to eat?"
As he spoke, he pulled Sang Zhang out of the room. Sang Zhang knew that the timing was not right, so he obediently followed him out of the ward.
Before leaving, Sangshen gave Buling a wink.
Bu Ling quietly gave him an 'OK' sign, watched the two leave the ward, and then turned around to pat Aunt Sang on the back to help her catch her breath.
"Auntie, don't be angry, don't be angry. If you get hurt from anger, no one will take your place!"
Aunt Sang was so angry she could hardly contain herself, and it took her a while to calm down. "Lingling, tell me, what do you think he means? Does he think I'm meddling too much?"
Bu Ling quickly tried to smooth things over: "No, no, Aunt, you're overthinking it. My brother definitely didn't mean that."
Auntie suddenly fell silent and sighed deeply, "The girl is so thoughtful, the boy was born to be a nuisance."
Buling had no answer to this question. She glanced at Aunt Sang's expression and asked cautiously, "Aunt, what exactly is going on?"
Aunt Sang said with exasperation, "Your eldest brother is getting married."
Buling: "Huh?" How come she hadn't heard anything about such a big event as getting married?
Besides, Aunt Sang was really looking forward to Brother Sang's marriage. Now that he's married, shouldn't Aunt Sang be very happy?
"Is there something wrong with him being my marriage partner?" Buling asked cautiously.
Having started this conversation, Aunt Sang felt it was inappropriate to say it aloud: "Yes, your eldest brother's fiancée has three children!"
Bling was surprised that her mouth could open so wide. "The three children are adopted?"
My aunt's words were tinged with bitterness: "My own flesh and blood!"
"What... what is Big Brother after?" Bu Ling was quite puzzled. Could it be that he wanted to become a father?
It wasn't that she looked down on divorced women with children; it was just that Sang Zhang was a young man who was already a regimental commander and had a bright future ahead of him, which reminded her of the people she had met, such as Tan Xiao.
"Could it be love?"
This is the only explanation!
Aunt Sang gritted her teeth in resentment: "What?! That woman is the widow of his comrade-in-arms. His comrade-in-arms was killed in action recently, and his wife and children went back to their hometown."
Who knew that his comrade's parents were biased and favored sons over daughters? The comrade's widow took her daughter back home, and they were so tormented that they could barely survive. And that's how it got to your older brother's ears.
Your older brother is stubborn. You said you'd help them, and nobody stopped you, but he insisted on marrying that widow, saying he wanted to take care of her and her daughter in place of his comrade.
