Buling squatted down and examined it carefully. "Thank you, Aunt Wu."
"Mom, why did you give the coal stove to this girl? It's our family's property," the eldest sister said, dissatisfied.
Aunt Wu smiled apologetically at Bu Ling, then said, "I'll take you to get the coal briquettes." She glared at her daughter-in-law, shoved her aside, and walked out of the house.
Bling followed, carrying the coal stove. As she passed the older sister, she saw her purse her lips.
Aunt Wu led her to the southernmost room in the far east wing, pushed open the door, and said, "These are all the coal briquettes I have, you can have them all."
Looking at the stack of coal briquettes, Bu Ling said, "Aunt Wu, I can't carry them all at once. I'll have to make several trips." As he spoke, he handed Aunt Wu a handful of fruit candies.
Aunt Wu took the fruit candy, her smile becoming more genuine: "Take your time carrying it, Auntie's not in a hurry."
Relieved, Buling first put the coal stove back in the room, then changed into a patched set of clothes. With Aunt Tian's help, it took four trips to move everything.
Before parting, he stuffed the remaining fruit candies in his pocket into Aunt Tian's hands: "Aunt Tian, give these to your grandson."
Aunt Tian couldn't refuse, so she happily accepted it.
Then she added, "Girl, it's noon now, not everyone is here. Wait until tonight, when they come back from get off work, and I'll show you around and introduce you to the residents of the compound."
