Bu Ling and Zhu Zhizhi also surrounded Sister Ma, looking at her eagerly: "Sister Ma, hurry up and tell us!" Zhu Zhizhi urged anxiously.
"I don't know either, I heard it from Manager Zhu," Sister Ma said innocently.
"Is Manager Zhu here?" Bu Ling asked.
"yes."
"Didn't you ask about the specifics?" Wu Yuanyuan said with a hint of reproach.
Instead of getting angry, Sister Ma shook her head quite honestly: "I don't dare, why don't you go?"
Wu Yuanyuan choked, unsure how to refute, so she simply looked at Bu Ling, who indeed did not disappoint her, nodding, "I'll go ask."
In a flash, all three of them turned their gazes toward Buling.
Without explaining further, Bu Ling turned around, walked to Manager Zhu's office door, and knocked.
"Enter!"
Bu Ling pushed open the door and went in. "Manager Zhu."
Manager Zhu saw that it was Bu Ling and put down his pen. "What is it?"
"Manager, is Grandpa Tan back?" Bu Ling asked directly.
Manager Zhu frowned upon hearing the name "Uncle Tan," but still nodded: "Yes."
"So how is the situation?" Bling asked immediately.
Manager Zhu frowned even more upon hearing this. He replied to Bu Ling, "Old Tan is awake." Before Bu Ling could even feel happy, he added, "But he can't stand up."
Upon hearing this, Buling was momentarily at a loss for what expression to make. After a long pause, she stammered, "Then... then there's absolutely no hope?"
Manager Zhu sighed deeply and rubbed his temples: "I've been to Kyoto." He only said that one sentence, but Bu Ling understood.
Kyoto is the heart of the country, home to the best doctors. If they can't cure the disease in Kyoto, then there's even less hope elsewhere.
No!
etc!
Suddenly, something occurred to Bu Ling. Her heart skipped a beat, and she was about to blurt out a sentence, but she swallowed it back down. "Manager Zhu, can I take the afternoon off? I'd like to visit Grandpa Tan."
"Can!"
"Me too!" Wu Yuanyuan, who had been eavesdropping, popped her head out and raised her hand.
"I'll go too!" Sister Ma was the second to chime in.
Finally, Zhu Zhizhi timidly peeked out; upon closer inspection, her face was slightly flushed.
Manager Zhu glanced at Bu Ling in the office, then at the three heads that had appeared outside, and his tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly: "I approve it."
Having received an affirmative answer, Bu Ling moved on to the next question: "Manager, do you know who pushed Grandpa Tan?"
"I don't know!" Manager Zhu decisively denied.
Bu Ling nodded, not dwelling on the topic, said something to Manager Zhu, left the office, and closed the door.
As soon as she came out, Wu Yuanyuan asked impatiently, "Ling, do you still have any malted milk powder coupons? I'd like to trade with you." She wanted to give them to her master.
Buling didn't answer her immediately. She went straight into the kitchen, poured herself a cup of hot water, and warmed her cold hands before replying, "Yes, but I didn't bring it with me."
She took a sip of hot water, saying, "But if I go home to get it, I won't have enough time."
Wu Yuanyuan's face fell: "Then what should we do?"
"How about this, let's buy some pastries first, and we can save the malted milk powder for next time!" Sister Ma suggested.
"That's all we can do," Wu Yuanyuan said.
Wu Yuanyuan and Zhu Zhizhi were still cooking lunch. Fortunately, after these few days of practice, they had become more experienced. Even if their cooking couldn't match Grandpa Tan's, they could still manage.
After lunchtime, Bu Ling closed the restaurant door, told Manager Zhu, and the four of them left the restaurant together.
After leaving the restaurant, they first went to the department store and each bought two jin of pastries that didn't require coupons before heading to Grandpa Tan's house.
Grandpa Tan's family also lived in a large courtyard, but his courtyard had five sections and more people. However, Bu Ling had just visited on the first day of the Lunar New Year, so he still remembered the location.
The four of them entered the main gate, walked through the messy courtyard, passed through the hanging flower gate, and then turned two corners until they stopped in front of the east wing of the third courtyard.
When the four arrived, Tan Hui happened to come out to get water. Seeing the four of them, he raised the corners of his drooping mouth slightly and said, "Sister Ma, Comrade Bu, have you come to see my father?"
"Yes, we heard that Grandpa Tan is back, so we came to visit him," said Sister Ma, handing over the pastries she was carrying.
Tan Hui gave the four of them a grateful look. "Come on in, let's talk inside." He didn't take the pastries, but instead stepped aside to let the four of them into the house.
Seeing this, Sister Ma took back the pastries and was the first to step onto the steps and enter the house. The three others, including Bu Ling, followed suit and entered the house.
Inside the house, Grandpa Tan was leaning against the kang (a heated brick bed). When he saw Sister Ma and the other three come in, he quickly put on his usual smile and said, "You're here, Xiao Xuan. Quickly get some stools for them to sit down."
Seeing Grandpa Tan like this, Wu Yuanyuan felt a lump in her throat and quickly sniffed, saying, "Master, we've come to see you." She placed the pastries on the table.
Aunt Ma followed up, "Uncle Tan, are you feeling better?"
"Master, how are you feeling?" Zhu Zhizhi asked.
Just as Bu Ling was about to speak, Tan Xuan, the second son of the Tan family, brought over four stools and distributed them to Bu Ling and the other three.
"Thank you." Buling changed the subject, took the stool, opened it, and sat down.
Zhu Zhizhi and the other two didn't stand on ceremony and sat down next to Bu Ling.
Grandpa Tan looked at the four of them with relief and warmth in his eyes, "Thank you for coming to see me."
"Uncle Tan, what are you saying? You've always taken good care of us," Bu Ling said with a smile. "Besides, we consider you an elder, how could we not come?"
