Bling's plan to return to live in the compound ultimately did not come to fruition.
There's no other reason than that the old man couldn't bear to part with Little Star, and he wished he could sleep with her every night. How could he tolerate not seeing her for several days?
But after hearing the whole story of Bu Ling, the old man waved his hand and said, "Xiao Qi, go ask around at the textile factory. If they need any help, we'll help them."
Sangshen muttered under his breath, "Isn't it a bit inappropriate for a gay man like me to go looking for a widow?" He wasn't the kind of gay man who didn't care about his reputation.
"What's the big deal? Just call Xiao Fang to come with you." Grandpa Sang quickly came up with a solution.
Upon hearing this, Sangshen looked at Aunt Fang, who readily agreed, "Alright, I'll go with Xiaoqi."
Grandpa Sang nodded in satisfaction, then, impatient with their idle chatter, waved his hand and carried Little Star back into the house.
Uncle Lin naturally followed, and Aunt Fang also stood up to go to the kitchen to cook.
In the blink of an eye, only Buling and Sangshen remained in the room: "By the way, Lingling, Auntie called to say she sent a lot of things to Xiaoxing. They should have arrived. Go to the post office to check after you get off work tomorrow."
He then added, "If there are a lot of things, don't take them yet, wait for me to get them."
"Okay." Buling nodded in agreement. "Didn't Auntie say she was going to come see Little Star? When?"
Sangshen put her arm around Buling and said, "I guess she won't be able to come. I heard from my aunt that she has a mission to take on next."
Upon hearing the word "mission," Buling tactfully changed the subject, mentioning that Aunt Sang was a researcher, and at a very high level.
The entire Sang family had no idea what she did; they only knew she was a researcher. Fortunately, the Sang family members were politically astute and never asked questions they shouldn't.
"Oh, right, didn't Second Brother say he had a mission a while ago?" Bu Ling suddenly remembered.
Sangshen nodded: "Yes." He leaned close to Buling's ear and whispered: "I guess it's the same mission as Auntie."
“Very likely,” Bling agreed.
The two chatted briefly about the recent situations of the two most mysterious members of the Sang family, and then simultaneously changed the subject:
"Lingling, is my brother-in-law really planning to stay single forever?"
Bu Ling glanced at him: "Why are you suddenly concerned about my brother?"
Mulberry stroked her chin: "It wasn't sudden. I've wanted to show concern for a long time, but there just wasn't the right opportunity."
"So it's available now?"
"That's true." Sangshen released Buling and turned to the side: "Do you remember Old Huang from our office?"
"I vaguely remember."
He has a daughter who is twenty years old this year...
"You're not thinking of introducing my brother to someone, are you?" Bu Ling interrupted Sang Shen.
Sangshen chuckled: "Not really, I'm just going through the motions. I know Old Huang's daughter isn't good enough for my brother-in-law."
"It's all thanks to Old Huang's daughter. She happened to run into my brother-in-law when he came to visit me, and she fell in love at first sight. She made a huge fuss about wanting to marry me. It's no secret in our office."
“Old Huang came to me for help, so I just casually asked him a question.” Sangshen shrugged.
“Then go back and tell Lao Huang that my brother has a wife and won’t remarry,” Bu Ling said.
In fact, over the past few years, Bu Ling had been trying to gauge Bu Yi's attitude both overtly and covertly, but Bu Yi had never given in.
Bu Ling even asked Professor Zhang and Professor Tao from Nanshan Village to act as intermediaries, but Bu Yi agreed readily in front of the two elders, and then nothing came of it after returning to the county town.
As time went by, she understood Bu Yi's feelings and never brought it up again.
Not only Bu Ling, but also the old ladies in the military family compound who used to treat Bu Yi like a hot commodity have given up on that idea and turned their attention to the next batch of young men.
“My brother can’t let go of Sister Tao,” Bu Ling said, resting her chin on her hand.
Mulberry: "Then I'll turn down Lao Huang tomorrow."
Bu Ling nodded. Even if her brother had such intentions, Old Huang's daughter wouldn't be suitable.
Making a huge scene over a man she'd only met once—isn't that just plain love-struck?
However, she still advised, "Be tactful when you speak, and don't hurt your colleagues' feelings."
“No problem!” Sangshen readily agreed.
The two were chatting when Sang Zi pushed the door open and came in: "Xiao Qi, sister-in-law."
"elder brother!"
"Big brother!"
The two looked up and greeted each other at the same time.
Sang Zi smiled, sat down opposite the two, put down her briefcase, poured herself a glass of water, and got straight to the point: "Sister-in-law, I have something to tell you."
"With me?" Bling pointed to himself in confusion.
"Yes." Sang Zi nodded, adjusted her glasses, and carefully considered her words before speaking slowly, "Your mother has passed away!"
"What? Whose mother?" Bu Ling blurted out, then realized what she meant when she noticed Sang Zi's surprised gaze: "Oh, my mother, Niu Fangcao, right?"
"Report a little bit, report a little bit, it's been too long, I've forgotten I still have a mother."
These words left the Mulberry Brothers speechless.
How could a mother forget?
"Um, is she only dying now?" Just as the two were unsure what expression to make, Bu Ling asked weakly.
Sangzi: ...
Judging from what my sister-in-law said, it seems like she doesn't want to die soon enough?
Perhaps realizing that her words were ambiguous, Buling quickly added, "Isn't it because my uncle said she was being targeted? I thought she died last year."
After a long silence, Sang Zi said, "No, he died this year. He passed away from a serious illness."
"Oh, okay." Bling nodded and then said nothing more.
