Xie Dong got married, and the wedding seemed very simple to Sang Shen.
There were only four tables set up, with only six dishes on each table. Not many people came: one table was Jiang Wanying's family, another table was Sang Shen's family, and the rest were Xie Dong's colleagues.
Actually, a wedding of this standard would be considered average for this era, but Sang Shen had high standards and always felt that Xie Dong was being treated unfairly.
Regardless, he was still happy that his best friend was getting married.
After the banquet, the guests all left, leaving only the Jiang and Sang families.
The two families sat in the living room, chatted for a while, and got to know each other briefly before Grandpa Sang tactfully took his leave.
Back home, Buling took her eldest daughter in her arms, fed her a bottle, and then said, "The Jiang family seems to dote on their daughter."
Today, the Jiang family also brought Jiang Wanying's dowry: two brand-new cotton quilts and thirty-six legs, which is quite a generous gift in the countryside.
Grandpa Sang nodded: "The Jiang family members have clear and honest eyes; they don't seem like bad people."
After the old man finished speaking, the room fell silent.
Ultimately, the Jiang family was still taking advantage of Xie Dong's kindness. Otherwise, why would Xie Dong marry a woman he had only met twice?
Especially since this woman is in poor health, but poor health can be treated, and it's not a serious problem.
But Jiang Wanying is different. She has a heart condition and cannot overwork or get angry. It's like marrying a tyrant into your family.
How could Xie Dong's family members be happy about this?
"Wah~wah~wah~" Little Star's cries broke the silence of the room.
Buling poked the mulberry: "It's probably diarrhea, go check on it."
Sang Shen nodded, stood up and went into the west room. Fang Sao followed her. Old Master Sang sighed heavily and instructed Sang Zi, "Xiao Si, find a way to send a letter to Xie's parents."
"When your child gets married, you should always let them know."
"I'll think of a way," Sang Zi said, not immediately agreeing.
Xie Dong's parents are different from Professors Zhang and Tao. Although they all work on farms, the nature of the farms is different.
The Jianning Farm where Professors Zhang and Tao worked had a diverse population and less strict management. However, the farm where Xie Dong's parents worked was different. It was filled with people accused of treason and was under complete military management. Sending messages in required going through layers of censorship, which was very difficult. Even their hometown couldn't be completely sure.
Grandpa Sang clearly understood the ins and outs, but he didn't insist, simply saying, "I'll do my best!"
Sang Zi pushed up her glasses: "I will."
Of course, all of this had nothing to do with Buling. That morning, she had just arrived at the restaurant entrance when she was startled by a figure that suddenly darted out.
She calmed herself down and looked closely: "Cousin?"
Xia Qingmei smiled brightly: "Cousin, it's been a long time!"
Buling glanced at the state-run restaurant that was just a stone's throw away. "Let's come inside. It's terribly sunny outside."
"Okay." Xia Qingmei followed Bu Ling into the state-run restaurant.
After parking the bicycle and pouring Xia Qingmei a glass of water, Bu Ling asked her why she had come: "Cousin, is there something you need from me?"
Xia Qingmei didn't rush to drink the water. Hearing Bu Ling's words, she mysteriously pulled over the bamboo basket, lifted it slightly, and revealed what was inside: "Cousin, take a look?"
Buling leaned closer to take a look, and after seeing what was inside, she gasped: "Cousin, where did you get this? You didn't make it yourselves, did you?"
Xia Qingmei smiled smugly: "That's really true."
Bling looked at her in surprise.
Xia Qingmei leaned closer and said, "We got a good deal, we just happened to run into the injured big cat, and that's how we got this. Cousin, are you interested?"
Bu Ling nodded vigorously; she was extremely interested. However, she asked, "Cousin, what are you planning to trade it for?"
He needed to check if he had any, so she could procure them in time: "By the way, do you still have tiger bones, tiger penis, and the like?"
"Of course I'll keep it," Xia Qingmei said. "Are you interested?"
“Yes, yes, I’ll take whatever you have,” Bu Ling said.
Tiger bone is a great thing; soaking it in alcohol makes it a very nourishing drink. And tiger penis is even rarer.
While we may not need mulberries now, what about in the future? We should always be prepared for the worst.
Xia Qingmei was overjoyed to hear this and immediately said, "Yes, I have them all, but I don't have them with me. Can I bring them to you tomorrow?"
“Why not?” Bling naturally had no objection: “How about this, you take the tiger skin back today, and we’ll trade it together tomorrow.”
As she spoke, Bu Ling smiled at Xia Qingmei and said, "Tell me what you want to exchange first, so I can prepare accordingly and try to make sure we're both happy."
Xia Qingmei was also a straightforward person, "Okay, then tomorrow it is."
Before she finished speaking, she pulled a slip of paper from her pocket: "These are the things we plan to exchange; the more items on it, the better."
Buling took the note and glanced at it. The items on the note weren't that rare; they were just daily necessities, food, and ration coupons, which were no problem for her at all: "No problem, I can gather all of these."
"That's great!" Xia Qingmei's face lit up with joy. "Then shall we meet tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow." Bu Ling was also happy.
She has no shortage of money, but things like tiger skin and tiger bones are rare and hard to come by. Now that she's found them, she can't let them go.
Seeing Xia Qingmei carrying her bamboo basket and preparing to leave, Bu Ling quickly said, "Cousin, let's do it tomorrow morning, when there are fewer people."
