After Aunt Fang left with the old man, Little Star was left without anyone to look after her, so Bu Ling had to take her to work.
When she entered the restaurant carrying her child, she attracted a crowd of onlookers from the entire restaurant.
"Xiao Bu, is this your daughter? Why did you bring her along?"
"Little sister, why did you bring Little Star with you?"
"Ling, what's going on?"
"Little Sister Buling..."
Several people surrounded Buling and asked her a barrage of questions.
Little Xingxing, who is not yet one year old, did not seem to be uncomfortable in the unfamiliar environment at all. Instead, she turned her little milk bag around to observe the new environment and occasionally showed a toothless smile.
Even the adorable tough guy Lü Zhiwei's heart melted.
"Grandpa and the others went back to Kyoto, and there's no one to look after the child, so we had to bring him along," Bu Ling explained simply.
Then, he walked past the crowd and went behind the counter, placed his daughter on the counter, laid out two small mattresses, put his daughter on them, and placed a pillow next to her to prevent her from falling off.
Wu Yuanyuan and the others watched her do all this the whole time.
"Ling, isn't this a bit unsafe?" Wu Yuanyuan looked at her adorable and pretty daughter with concern.
"There's no other way, let's leave it at that for now. Grandpa went back so suddenly, we didn't have time to think of any other solutions. Let's take care of him for the day, and Sangshen and I will discuss it again tonight." Buling knew all too well that this wasn't a good idea.
But the old man's notification yesterday was so sudden that they were so caught up in their sadness that they completely forgot about Little Star.
Little Star is too young, and it's obviously impossible to leave her at home alone. She works at a restaurant, so it's not suitable for her to bring a child to work. Mulberry is a good fit, but he works in a government building, and unless absolutely necessary, Buling doesn't want to leave the child with him.
There's no other reason than that it's a serious place after all. Even if Sangshen doesn't have much ambition, we can't let anyone find fault with him.
That day, Buling was distracted at work, glancing at the child every now and then, only feeling at ease when she saw that she was safe.
Although Little Star is an obedient child and didn't have much of an impact on Bu Ling's work, the hotel is really not a suitable place for a child.
Putting aside how harmful the kitchen fumes are to children, many of the customers who come to eat smoke. If the child goes to work with her, he will inevitably be exposed to secondhand smoke. How can that be allowed?
Therefore, finding a home for the little star is an urgent matter.
During the afternoon break, a group of people surrounded the little star, teasing it incessantly. Buling watched for a while, then turned to look at Wu Yuanyuan:
"Sister Yuanyuan, can I talk to you about something?"
Wu Yuanyuan looked longingly at her fair-skinned little girl and answered absentmindedly, "You tell me."
Buling got straight to the point: "Could Aunt Zhao help take care of Xiaoxing? It'll cost ten yuan a month. We'll pay for the formula ourselves and wash the diapers ourselves."
She couldn't think of anyone else; the only people she was really familiar with were those in the compound.
In the compound, the only people she trusted most were Aunt Tian and Aunt Zhao. Since Aunt Tian had a job, it was impossible for her to trust Aunt Zhao.
After hearing what Bu Ling said, Wu Yuanyuan looked up in surprise: "My mother-in-law?"
Bling nodded.
Realizing that Bu Ling was serious, Wu Yuanyuan withdrew her attention from Xiao Xingxing. "I need to go back and ask my mother-in-law."
Bling nodded: "Of course."
After explaining her intentions to Wu Yuanyuan, she turned her attention to her daughter. Seeing her daughter's carefree appearance, Bu Ling sighed softly.
She didn't feel anything when her grandfather was alive, but now that he's gone, the disadvantages of her and Sangshen being orphans have become apparent.
When Bu Ling got off work in the evening, she ran into Jiang Wanying from next door who opened her door. Bu Ling stopped and greeted her politely, "Sister-in-law, are you going out?"
Jiang Wanying lowered her head shyly at first, then raised her head and said in a voice as soft as a mosquito's buzz, "Mmm."
Bu Ling said, "Then you go ahead with your work, I'll go home first." Without waiting for Jiang Wanying's reply, she continued walking forward.
Jiang Wanying glanced at the chubby baby in her arms, feeling envious. Remembering what her mother had told her before, a fleeting sadness crossed her eyes. She turned around, closed the door, and went to the post office to mail a letter to her family.
When Buling got home, she put her daughter down, fed her, went into the kitchen, cooked a pot of millet porridge, heated up two steamed buns, and waited for Sangshen to come back so she could cook a dish. Dinner was ready.
After dinner and putting their daughter to sleep, Buling and Sangshen finally had time to talk about what had happened that day.
"Lingling, how's Little Star doing today? Did she cause any trouble?"
"We haven't made a fuss, but we still need to find a place for Little Star as soon as possible; the hotel environment is terrible," Bu Ling said.
Sangshen gently patted her precious daughter and suggested, "How about I take her tomorrow?"
“Let’s see. If it really doesn’t work out, you can take care of it,” Bu Ling said. “I originally planned to have Aunt Zhao look after it during the day, but then I felt it wasn’t appropriate. Let’s think of another way.”
It's not that Aunt Zhao did anything wrong; it's just that she doesn't feel comfortable entrusting her child to anyone else, not even a neighbor.
"If it really doesn't work out, I'll just resign!" Sangshen said.
“It’s not that time yet,” Bling replied.
"What about tomorrow?" Sangshen asked again.
“Tomorrow, I’ll take care of the child for another day. See if you can find someone you trust to be a nanny,” Buling said. “Just tell everyone she’s a relative of ours, someone we only need to take care of during the day.”
“It has to be someone you can trust,” Bling emphasized again.
Having witnessed numerous news reports of nannies abusing children in her later life, she held exceptionally high standards in this regard.
“I’ll give it a try,” Sangshen said. “I’ll talk to my brother tomorrow. He’s more astute than me, so the person he recommends will definitely be reliable.”
