Bling's teaching methods finally gained the approval of the whole family.
Since that day, no one in the family has ever complained about it again. They still feel sorry for Xiaoxing, but they will never stop her again.
Auntie no longer interfered with Xiaoxing's education. She only took care of her three meals a day, washing clothes, cooking, and taking care of the child. She would even imitate Buling and say no to Xiaoxing.
At this point, the whole family was in sync again, which pleased Bling.
Just as Bling was struggling to implement her educational philosophy, autumn quietly passed and the first snow of winter arrived.
Little Star, seeing snow for the first time, was as excited as a little monkey who had just come down from Monkey Mountain, jumping around as if he had never seen the world before.
Because of the snow, the Buling Hotel was closed for the holiday. Seeing Xiaoxing like this, I got excited and dressed her warmly. Then I took the child to the yard and enthusiastically built a snowman.
My aunt wanted to tell them not to get cold, but then she thought about it and let them be. She then turned around and went to the kitchen to cook spicy soup. Luckily, there was still some mutton that Xie Dong had sent over.
Bling's practical skills are just so-so, but Little Star perfectly inherited this trait from her.
In the end, the mother and daughter spent an entire morning building a super ugly snowman, so ugly it was an eyesore.
However, the mother and daughter were delighted and extremely happy. They even found a basket and put it on the snowman's head as a hat.
"Is it pretty?" Buling asked her daughter, hands on her hips.
"Beautiful." (Hands on hips, just like her daughter.)
"You have good taste!"
The mother and daughter admired their masterpiece for a while before returning to their room, satisfied. They sat in the main room, drinking the spicy soup cooked by their aunt, and watching the snow scene outside.
Her aunt sat beside her feeding Little Star: "Next year will definitely be a good year."
"A good year is a good year."
"That's right," Auntie agreed wholeheartedly. "There's a big market day in a few days, are you going again this year?"
"We'll see when the time comes, there's still more than a month," Buling said uncertainly. "I'll probably go."
When she arrived in this era, she discovered that entertainment options were incredibly limited, with large markets only held at the end of the year.
She didn't want to miss this kind of event that only happens a few times a year.
Aunt nodded: "Then I won't go, you go."
"No, Auntie, let's go together. We can discuss it."
"No, you decide. I'm too old and lazy to move around." Aunt wiped Little Star's mouth. "Will you and Xiao Qi take Little Star with you?"
"No, she's too young."
"That's true." Aunt didn't say much more, and then asked another question: "Are you going back to Kyoto for the New Year this year?"
“Yes, I’ll go back,” Bling said. “I’ve already told my brother.”
"Did you talk to the old man?"
“I did,” Bu Ling replied. “Let me ask Manager Zhu when the hotel will be closed for the holidays so I can buy tickets. We’ll leave the day after the holidays start.”
"You have to book sleeper tickets in advance for the Spring Festival," my aunt said.
“Since my older brother isn’t coming back this time, it’s just the three of us plus you, Aunt. It’s safer to take a sleeper berth, even if it’s a little inconvenient,” Bu Ling said.
When traveling with elderly people and children, safety is the most important thing; everything else has to take a backseat.
The two chatted almost aimlessly, talking about this and that.
Will Xiaoqi be able to come back tonight?
"He said he'd come back."
"This is quite arduous, having to accompany the leaders on inspection tours in the heavy snow."
"Who can argue with that?"
They changed the topic again shortly afterward.
"You know, Dongzi's wife has been married for so long, why isn't she pregnant yet?" Auntie brought up a topic that old people often discuss.
"Who knows?" Buling wasn't keen on the topic and changed the subject, "By the way, where are Brother Xie and the others going to spend the New Year this year?"
“The two of them stay at home,” Auntie said. “Actually, Xiao Jiang’s parents wanted them to come back for the New Year, but Xiao Jiang refused, saying he was afraid of causing them trouble.”
“That’s normal. Brother Xie’s background is currently unclear, so it’s understandable that Sister Jiang is afraid of implicating her family.” Bu Ling understood perfectly.
And then there's Xie Dong, who almost lost his job because of his family background. If it weren't for Sang Zi supporting him, he might be nowhere to be found now.
Under these circumstances, the couple would certainly keep a low profile and would certainly not be willing to spend the New Year at the Jiang family's house.
"It's alright, Xiao Si is here. It's good that Xiao Si isn't going back either. With him around, Dongzi and his wife can feel more at ease," Auntie said optimistically.
Buling looked up at her, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.
Should I tell my aunt that my older brother went to Nanshan Village for the Chinese New Year?
Let's not do it. It would be bad if my aunt found out something.
Where should I begin?
Let's start from last year when Shen Ci came to the county town for the Spring Festival.
Actually, Shen Ci didn't live here during that time and had very little contact with Bu Ling. But who is Bu Ling?
Having experienced the information explosion, she saw through his little secret with Sangzi almost immediately.
I just hadn't thought about it that way before, and also because I didn't have much contact with both of them at the same time.
Honestly, it's quite obvious whenever the two of them are in the same frame.
The reason the two of them were able to keep it a secret so well is simply because no one else had experienced it.
Once someone as knowledgeable as Bu Ling appears, their interactions are practically a public announcement of their relationship.
However, she had no intention of telling anyone, including Sangshen.
She admired their courage, so it wasn't unreasonable for her to temporarily act as a protector for their relationship.
